Chapter 4:
Inuyasha frowned at the little kitsune who ran over to them. Usually he was always close to Kagome, but Kagome was still some distance away, talking to Sango. At least that's what he assumed because he couldn't see Kagome 's face as she turned her back on him. “What's going on?” He finally asked Shippo “Why aren't you with Kagome?” But Shippo didn't answer him and sat down next to him and Miroku with an offended expression. The two exchanged a puzzled look. Inuyasha gave him a headbutt. “Hey! I'm talking to you!” Shippo started to howl, and Inuyasha was amazed because the headbutt hadn’t even been hard. But just then Sango and Kagome came. Inuyasha winced, because he expected to be thrown to the floor by Kagome with the damned sentence, but nothing happened. Somewhat astonished he looked at Kagome, who ignored the howling of the kitsunes and now he saw why. Kagome had a small demon on her arm, which she caressed with delighted eyes. Inuyasha got up to take a closer look at the demon and Miroku also looked at him. "It is definitely quite harmless," said the monk after a short time. Sango looked at him a bit astonished: "Of course he is. Take a look at him. He's so cute. He couldn't hurt a fly!" Inuyasha still looked a little suspiciously from Kagome to the demon and then to Shippo, who was still howling for Kagome to pay her attention. When he finally understood, he said to Shippo: "I think you can stop now, it won't do any more." Shippo promptly stopped and looked at Kagome, a little offended. She didn't care that he cried. Again he looked at the little demon on her arm with a jealous look. "Then we can finally go on now." Inuyasha said, who didn't want to go on fast enough to get the jewel splinter.
After a short while, Kagome stopped again. Inuyasha looked around at her: “What's going on?” “The jewel shard is very close here.” These words were enough that everyone immediately looked around with watchful eyes. But it was Kagome of all people who saw the demon first. "There! There it is!" She pointed exactly to the demon, but the others just looked at her blankly. Finally Sango said: “Kagome, there is nothing at all.” Now it was her turn to look at the others blankly. Did they just pretend they couldn't see the demon? But why should they do that? You had absolutely no reason to. “There is the demon who has the jewel shard.” The others still looked blankly in the direction in which Kagome was pointing.Inuyasha looked seriously at Kagome. "Kagome, there is absolutely nothing! There is no demon. I would smell it! There is nothing." Kagome looked at Inuyasha somewhat confused. "But there really is a demon. You only have to look ahead, then you can see him." Despair rose in her. Why didn't they see the demon? What did that mean? Was she getting mad? Her friends looked at her the same way; as if she was totally insane. Sango looked Kagome in the eye. "Are you okay too?" "Yes, I'm fine," said Kagome. Slowly she began to believe that she was just imagining everything. But suddenly a quiet voice said very close to her: "I can see the demon too." A little startled, Kagome looked at the little demon on her arm. "What? You can see him too? But why can't the others see him?" "That's because the demon comes from another world. From the world from which I come.I came here because I need your help. My name is Subaru. I am a guardian demon. "When he saw that the others just looked at him blankly, he added:" In my world there are 12 spheres that are of great importance for our world, as they ensure the balance between the worlds. As a guardian demon, it is my job to protect them. But they were stolen by evil forces and that upset the balance. That is why some of the demons from our world have moved into your world. "Now everyone was confused, but Kagome asked a question that bothered them:" But why can I see the demon when he's out of this world? "" You can see these so-called jewel splinters, right? "" Yes ... ", Kagome said a little confused, not knowing what the splinters were supposed to have to do with it. Subaru noticed this and added," You probably thought the demon had a jewel splinter, did me right?"When Kagome nodded, still looking confused, Subaru finally explained her." That's because the demons have an aura similar to the jewel. Although the demon does not have a jewel shard, you can feel and see it. "Slowly Kagome began to understand." I want you to help me get the bullets back. "" What do we get if we help you with this? "Inuyasha asked suspiciously." I can understand your distrust, but if you don't help me, the balance will be totally broken and both my and your world will be taken over by the forces of darkness. If that happens, we are all lost. I beg you, help me! “Inuyasha was still skeptical, but Kagome was convinced they just had to help Subaru.” But what about Naraku? ", objected Sango." We just got a trace of him. "And what about Kohaku? Miroku could guess what Sango was thinking about."How about Inuyasha and Kagome looking for these balls and we stay here and take care of Naraku?" Inuyasha was still thinking. On the one hand he wanted to finally hunt down Naraku to take revenge on him for what he had once done to him, but on the other hand he felt that this thing with these bullets was extremely important. In the end, they agreed that Kagome and Inuyasha would go with Subaru, while Sango, Miroku, Shippo and Kirara would continue to pursue Naraku.
Subaru had told Kagome and Inuyasha that they would start looking in his world. Therefore, they should leave as soon as possible, because it was still a long way to the portal into the other world. Now it was time to say goodbye. Shippo started crying and jumped into Kagome's arms. She tried to calm the little Kitsune down, although she had trouble holding back the tears herself. Sango and Kagome hugged one last time and then parted ways. For a while, Kagome and Inuyasha walked in silence after Subaru who went ahead and led them. "How far is it then?", Kagome asked the little demon, because her feet were slowly hurting. "It will probably take another 2 hours. But there is a river ahead where we can stop," he replied. After a quarter of an hour they finally reached the river and Kagome sat exhausted on the bank and let her aching feet dangle in the cooling water. Inuyasha sat down next to her and watched in silence as she played with her feet in the water. He looked very thoughtful, which Kagome noticed, of course. "What are you thinking about?" She asked him. At first Inuyasha was silent, but then he finally said: “I'm wondering how it's going to be where we're going.” He looked up and looked Kagome in the eye. "I don't know, but I think we'll find out soon." "Yes, you are probably right." Inuyasha said and stood up. "I think we should go further.", he said and they set off again. Inuyasha noticed how the landscape around them was changing. A short time ago they had walked over a grassy landscape, where there were small forests from time to time. But now it was Stony ground and huge boulders appeared again and again from the dry earth, which made it a lot more difficult for them to get ahead.
When it was getting dark, Subaru led them to some withered trees, the branches of which were almost leafless and looked a little creepy in the twilight. Here, too, the ground was littered with boulders and sharp stones, and where it wasn't, it was swampy and wet, and it gave off an unpleasant, almost putrid smell. "We're almost there now," Subaru said to Kagome's and Inuyasha's relief. As sure as if he was always there, Subaru led the two around the swampy spots to the trees. When he disappeared into the thicket, Kagome and Inuyasha stopped in front of it, a little doubtful because it was pitch dark between the trees. But since they didn't want to lose touch completely, they went in one after the other. Inuyasha in front and Kagome close behind him. But after a few meters it got brighter again. The trees thinned and a cave appeared in front of them, at the entrance of which Subaru was impatiently waiting for them. "There you are at last. Hurry up. This cave is the gateway to my world." The three entered the cave, where it was not totally dark as expected. A light seemed to come from further ahead, making it possible for the three of them to see where they were going. Then suddenly they saw a blue light in front of them that seemed to devour them and for a moment it became totally white around them .....
