Chapter: Shattered dreams
Here's another new story from me. I hope you like it.
Chapter 1:
"Katja, what's wrong with you?" With these words Katja was torn from her thoughts. A little confused, she looked around and noticed her best friend, Alexandra, next to her, who had addressed these words to her. She looked at her, forced herself to smile and said: "It's nothing. It's all right, really.", Katja tried to calm Alex down. She didn't really believe her, but by now she already knew her best friend well enough to know that there was absolutely no point in trying to get something out of her if she didn't want to say anything. She would come to her by herself at some point, she knew that. She looked worried again at Katja, who was staring absentmindedly into the air again. But the next moment the bell rang and her lunch break was over and Katja woke up from her daydreams because she had to go back to her class, they still had school until 2 a.m. today. So they set out to serve their last two hours. Before class Alex decided that she would watch Katja, she was slowly getting really worried about her best friend, something was really wrong. Alex had also got it into her head that she would find out what worries her best friend. So she watched them as best she could for the whole two hours, at least she still had to be careful in class. But it struck her that Katja wasn't paying attention during these two hours either, just staring out the window, she didn't even really react when the teachers spoke to her, so she only apologized briefly and then was back with her thoughts different wherever that should be.
After the last lesson, the two girls went out to meet a couple of their friends who were out at the same time as them. As always, they talked about whether they should do something, but what was missing this time, and had actually been missing for a few days, was Katja's happy babbling and fooling around with her best friend Daniel.Normally the two of them would only do nonsense when they were in a heap and were almost unstoppable. But for a few days that wasn't the case either. Katja had become quieter and quieter, everyone else had noticed that by now, but everyone knew that it was useless if you pressed her and wanted to know what was going on. This only closed her up even more, because she absolutely hated something like that. Suddenly you could hear Katja's voice, it was very quiet, but you could hear it well. One could also hear in her voice that she couldn't be as well as she said. Her voice sounded weak and as if she had run out of strength. Everyone knew that Katja would finally have to confide in whom, otherwise she would still go to the bottom of what tormented her so much. "I'm not going with you today, I have to go home. Bye." With these words Katja turned away and was already on the way to home. Daniel actually wanted to hold Katja back, but he decided not to do it and thought that he would visit her later. So they let Katja go home.
Alex and the others shot at that they wanted to have another ice cream, after all, it was a wonderful sunny day that you just had to enjoy. So they all went to eat ice cream. While they were eating their ice cream, Alex talked to Daniel. "Tell me, do you have any idea what's going on with Katja?" Alex asked him. Daniel just shook his head and said: "No, sorry, I'm worried about her myself. She's gotten weird at the moment. I don't understand what's going on. She doesn't say anything either." He let out a sigh and looked at Alex. She just nodded. "I also have no idea what is happening to her and I also don't understand that she doesn't say anything. If something worries her, she can come to us at any time, she knows that. I just don't understand her." She too sighed softly. "I'll go to her again today. Maybe she'll tell me something." Alex nodded. "Do that, maybe something will come out." Daniel nodded. They had finished their ice cream and now they all decided to go home. Daniel didn't go home, he went to Katja.
While the others were eating ice cream, she went to her home, where she found an empty house, as always in the past few days. As if in a trance, she took off her shoes, just dropped her bag where she was and disappeared into her room. She hadn't eaten for a few days because there was nothing in the refrigerator and she had no money to buy anything. She collapsed on her bed and just stared at the ceiling. She knew that she should do her homework and that of the last few days, but she couldn't really concentrate at all since her father was admitted to the hospital with cancer in the final stadium. She just didn't want to admit that her father was going to die soon and then she would have to go. She had absolutely no desire to leave here, not now that school was going so well and not now that she had fallen in love. That wasn't exactly an uncomplicated thing either, she had to fall in love with her best friend, of all people, whom she would probably never tell that it was because she was a huge coward in this matter. Her mind wandered back to her father. // How is he doing now? // She let out a low sigh. Actually, she was supposed to go visit him, but she just didn't have the strength to see him hanging there by all the hoses. She really loved her father more than anything and would not take it to see him like that or if he really should die. She still believed that there was a way to save him, but she secretly knew that there was no way, that terminal cancer could not be cured, and that her father would most certainly die. She was still thinking for a while when she was suddenly torn from her thoughts by the ringing of the phone. She got up slowly, somehow she had a premonition that this call meant nothing good, she was supposed to be right.Slowly she picked up the receiver and answered with "Bauer". Already she heard the voice of a woman on the other end of the line. "Ms. Bauer, we are very sorry to have to inform you that your father has just passed away." At first Katja couldn't say anything at all, only softly and after a while she said "Thank you, goodbye", then the phone fell from her hand and she collapsed crying on the floor. She wept all the sadness that had pent up in the past few days from her heart. After what was an infinite time for her, she had made up her mind. She just didn't want to anymore. So she went to her room, fished her notebook out of her school bag, sat down at her desk and began to write:
Dear Daniel, Dear Alexandra.
If you find this letter, I'll probably be dead, or almost. I'm sorry for doing this, but I can't anymore.
What I haven't told you in the last few days was that my father had cancer at the end of the line and died today.I didn't tell you because I just believed there was still a way to heal him, but that was all just my imagination, I understand that now.
I should actually move in with my mother now, but I can't stand it, I'd rather kill myself. I hate this woman and her new family, they abandoned me and my father at the time because it was all too much for her and ran away with another guy, I hate her for that.
I thank you that you were always there for me when I needed you and I hope that you can forgive me, but I just can't anymore, it's just all too much for me.
On the one hand the death of my father, on the other hand I fell in love with Daniel. I'm sorry you found out this way, but I just couldn't tell you. I'm just too cowardly, but I agree that you should know.
I love you both
Bye,Katja
She folded the letter, put it in an envelope and wrote Alexandra and Daniel on it, then she put the letter in the living room, she was sure that Daniel would find him, after all he had a spare key and he would surely come by.
After putting the letter down where it had to be found, she went back to her room and looked around for something sharp enough. But she found nothing, so her next way was to the kitchen, where all the kitchen knives were, she took what looked sharpest to her and went back to her room with it. Somehow she wanted to die in her room, in her bed, not always like the one in the movie in the bathtub full of water.
She lay down in her bed, took the knife in her right hand, applied it and hesitated for a moment. For a brief moment she really wondered if she should do that, but then her eyes fell on a photo of her father and she was sure that she should do it.She put the knife back on and this time she cut her wrists, she watched the blood as it slowly began to run out of the wound, she quickly took the knife in her left hand and also cut her right arm. She put the knife down next to her and watched the blood trickle from her arms onto her bed. Somehow she was fascinated by how this red juice of life flowed out of her. Slowly she also noticed how her room was blurring before her eyes. Her last thoughts before she passed out were // Daniel, Alex, sorry. Father, I'll be with you soon //. She had barely thought through the thought, it was already black before her eyes, she could no longer hear the bell.
Daniel rang the doorbell a moment after she passed out, of course he didn't know she wouldn't open it for him. He waited a little, but he had a strange feeling, so he quickly found his key, ran to the entrance gate and unlocked it.As soon as he was in the anteroom, he saw the letter on the floor. When he saw who he was going to, he already suspected what she had done. He just dropped his school bag where he was and ran quickly through the house to look for her, while he was looking for her, he took out his cell phone and called the ambulance, no sooner had he done this than he found Katja in her room . At first he stopped in shock, but caught himself again and ran to her. He immediately looked to see if she still had a pulse, when he found a very light one, he first let out a relieved breath, then he looked at her forearms. He immediately noticed that she had cut her wrists and that she had actually caught them on both
