Chapter: the lake / pond
After he had finished class, he strolled through the huge park that directly adjoined the boarding school. Thanks to Wyatt, he had been struggling with the question of whether Dranzer would ever return to him or whether he would have the opportunity to stand at the tableau himself and face Tyson in the future.
The answers were still in the stars, but he assumed the worst. If his Bitbeast had left him forever, then he would never be able to blade again, and that made a new fight against his world's greatest competitor almost impossible.
Sighing, he sat down on the lawn, rummaged in his trouser pockets for his Discman, and finally put on the headphones. He turned the music up to maximum volume in order to erase all the thoughts from his mind that had accumulated there until then, but he should not succeed. In a way, after all, they were his only occupation, his only pastime. He didn't have a change.
He plucked out a few tufts of grass, looked at them briefly and threw them aside again - he repeated the same procedure at least 6 times.
Today they had talked about him again and had their mouths about his silent manner. Some had joked and claimed he was illiterate, others had called him dumb, but most continued to insist on the fact that he was just plain arrogant and snooty.
He himself had not commented on the allegations, although he would have liked to give some of them a proper head wash. It was easy to judge someone when you didn't know them. They should be babbling. Eventually they would have found a new object to target - or so he hoped.
How he would have loved to turn back time now.If he had changed anything about his past, it would have been his decision to stop blading. It all started with this decision, after it everyone had left him ...
"Hey Jamie, now wait a minute!" he heard loud screams in the distance as he changed the CD "what's wrong with you?"
He didn't have to turn around, because only a few minutes later the blond-haired woman he knew walked past him - in tow a clearly younger girl who repeatedly bombed her with penetrating questions.
"Now talk to me. Please ... I just want to know why you are in such a bad mood today. Why don't you answer me? Hey, I'm talking to you!"
"Miranda", all of a sudden the older woman's head flew around. She looked pretty pissed off "Not today! Leave ... me alone. You get on my nerves, get it? Don't damn well stick your nose into things that are none of your business!"
"But…"
"Stay out of it!" her voice was cutting, almost threatening. The smaller one winced, startled "and now stop running after me!"
Abruptly she turned back and walked away with brisk steps.
Astonished, Kai's eyes now stuck to the bereaved, who had lowered her head slightly to the floor and gave a low sob that betrayed that she was crying.
Quietly and calmly, he packed his things and got up. That morning he would never have thought it possible that Jamie could have such a side too. She was downright nasty, just freezing cold, hadn't cared anything about the feelings of her little friend. It had to look like that when he talked to Wyatt and drove him to hell again.
He entered the narrow gravel path that ran through the entire park and followed him. When he passed the stranger he had been observing so far, he stopped for a moment and examined her again carefully. Some strands of her, exemplary tied, braid had loosened and were now hanging around in front of her face, which she also hid protectively in her hands. He estimated her to be about 11 years old - her feminine charms had not yet developed sufficiently for that.
"Hey little one," he said to her - somehow he felt sorry for her "are you okay?"
Immediately she looked at him with tearful eyes. Her lower lip trembled as she spoke.
"She ... she was so mean to me!"
"You mean Jamie?"
She nodded "She's never like that ..."
"Everyone has a bad day," he tried to explain, "tomorrow it will be different again."
"Do you think so?" a small, hopeful smile spread across her lips "that's fine."
"Well then," he nodded satisfied and continued on his way without giving her another look.
The path led him almost over the entire boarding school area, which was enormous. After he left the lawn, a small forest followed, which provided some shade. In contrast to the rest of the area, there was complete peace. Most of the students had almost certainly returned to the Beyblade field by this time to train there until late in the evening. If he wasn't mistaken, Wyatt was going up against someone from the high school today - the younger had told him that at some point and asked him to watch. Maybe he would take a look at what was going on later - maybe ...
He played a little playful kicking a small stone in front of him, he had once again buried his hands deep in the pockets of his trousers, his eyes on the floor so that he would not notice when someone crossed his path and accordingly he would not say hello out of politeness had to.
The path eventually ended at a water source. At some distance there was a small wooden sign, hammered into the ground, with the inscription "See", but all Kai could see was a dilapidated pond that was hardly larger than 3 meters.
The surface of the water was covered with lianas, bushes and algae and it didn't smell very pleasant. The place was cold and icy - he shivered a little as he continued to walk towards it.
No wonder none of the students moved to this area - it didn't look very inviting. Rather spooky, almost eerie.
While he watched the area he leaned casually against a tree and let his eyes wander. Not even animals had moved here, when one could actually assume that at least ducks or other water birds must be found in such a place.
He wrinkled his nose. This place seemed to be just right for him - it was far away from the crowds and also reflected a loneliness that was also to be found with him.
With strength he pushed himself off and took a few more steps towards the pool, the supposed lake - he stopped again immediately.
Jamie crouched right at the point where the path suddenly ended and it went three feet before the water was reached. She had turned her back on him, repeatedly grabbed one of the small stones that lay near her and skilfully let it slide across the surface of the water.
"I actually thought I was the only one who got lost here," she finally said in a calm tone, without turning around, "what's driving you here?"
"I just looked around," he replied truthfully, "and here I have landed."
She slowly turned her head in his direction "I think I have to apologize to you."
"For what?" he stared at her puzzled. "I don't know what for."
"Well, it was probably not the best English thing to do, to just put you off this morning and leave you there," she explained and smiled, embarrassed, "I'm really sorry."
"Fine," he muttered. For him, the whole thing was over in a matter of seconds. After all, it happened more often that someone poked him or ignored him. In return, he did the same with others."But maybe you'll still explain to me why you were suddenly so ... angry this morning."
"Was that that obvious?" she snorted loudly and contemptuously and gave herself the answer "of course it was!"
The Russian nodded silently before grabbing a stone and sliding it across the lake.
"So…?"
She hesitated a moment and fumbled at her fingers.
"They took my Beyblade from me," she replied in a bitter voice, "about last night's thing ... you know ... this chase."
He widened his eyes in amazement "You are blading?"
"I bladed," she corrected gloomily, "before these bums stole my" Graise "from me."
"Graise" he repeated "your bitbeast?"
She nodded.
"It was a present from my grandmother. A family heirloom," she said, clenching her hands vigorously into fists, "and I swear to you that if I don't get it back soon, this boarding school and its inmates can experience its blue miracle.""You are very attached to it," he guessed.
"Of course," she uttered, "just like you hang on to your Dranzer!"
Completely taken by surprise, he looked at her. Then she knew about his past after all - no wonder - if she was a blader ...
"Don't worry," her voice rang out again, "I don't intend to ask you about your career as a world champion, if that's what you're thinking."
"Not?"
She shook her head "No. You will already have your reasons why you stopped blading. It's your business. It's none of my business."
"Then you are very different from your classmates," he said freely.
"Seems so," she let out a short grin, but it disappeared just as quickly as it appeared.
"And what do you intend to do now?" did he want to know "about your Beyblade?"
"I have no idea," she admitted, "I don't know. I'll probably wait and see."
"For sure?" He looked down at her skeptically."How sure?" a questioning look overtook him "what do you mean by that?"
"Sorry, but you don't seem like a person who can wait patiently."
"Do I have any other choice?" she snapped at him, "I don't think so. And besides, I don't want to annoy the Direx any further unnecessarily. Who knows what he'll do then."
"Well then," he slowly turned away from her and went back on his way, "I wish you the best of luck with the matter."
"Are you going back to boarding school?"
"Where else?"
"Do you mind if I go with you?"
The answer was a shrug.
