Chapter 1 The beginning of the end
The full moon was so bright that night it almost felt like day. Michael enjoyed the light of the moon, which made his white, almost transparent skin shimmer. The street noise and muffled voices reached his ears from the city. It was that time again. The hunter went hunting.
The wind played with his dark hair, which he had tied up at the back of his neck. The howling of wolves could be heard from the mountains, but only for beings like Michael.
As he walked down the small slope from his hut, he noticed an animal. Green eyes stared at him from the shade of a pine tree. "Wolf blood, good to see you."
, Michael greeted the visitor.
A wolf with silky gray fur stepped into the clearing. The play of its muscles in the slightest movement showed the strength of this animal. In response to Michael's greeting, Wolfsblut barked softly, while the vampire saw blood sticking to his friend's teeth."As I can see you have already eaten.", He laughs. Wolfsblut gave him a dangerous grin. "I'm on my way into town. I want a drop of noble blood." With these words, Michael looked hungrily at the city that began below the mountain and in which, despite the night, there was still a lot of activity.
The wolf gave a bark. "What do you say?" Asked the vampire, interested.
For vampires it was no problem to communicate with animals. The animals understood what the vampires were saying and instead of answering with words, they sent images from their brain to the brain of the intended vampire.
Wolfsblut also sent Michael a picture of a young girl. She must be around 20 with long blonde hair tied in a ponytail. Apparently she had taken an evening stroll and was now on her way back. A found food for a hungry spawn of darkness.
"Oh what a treat!", Michael was happy." Thank you for your help, my friend. "Like a gentleman, he bowed to the animal. The animal bowed its wolfish head to acknowledge thanks.
The vampire was just about to set off when something occurred to him. "My faithful companion, may I ask you a favor?" He asked formally.
“Phew!” Kathrin stepped out into a small clearing between the trees. She had taken another evening stroll and got lost on the way back. Why hadn't she brought a map or at least a compass with her?
Exhausted, she sat down on an old tree stump. She looked around. "Hey! I think I've been here before!" She turned her head in all directions again. "Yes. From here I know the way back.", She said, beaming.
She untied her ponytail to re-tie it. When wandering through the forest he almost opened up. Her blonde hair fell on her shoulders like the water from a waterfall. After renewing her braid, she raised her head to look at the sky.
The stars stood out against the dark background of the night sky, they threw their light onto the earth like little light bulbs, even if not that bright. Kathrin liked to roam through the forest at night. Even when she was a child, she often snuck out at night on the terrace to look at the starry sky. Some people were afraid of the dark, she loved them. "Now I have to go on!", She said to herself and got up.
Suddenly she heard a growl behind her. It came from the forest. She spun around and looked into the pair of green eyes of a wolf! His fur was raised, his muscles tense ready to jump.
Kathrin bit her lower lip so that she didn't suddenly have to start screaming. The wolf took a step towards her, she automatically took one back. That was a mistake.
Now the animal bared its teeth, crouched and jumped at her with its mouth wide open, ready to tear her throat open.Kathrin turned her face to the side and waited for the fatal bite. But nothing happened. Was it like in the movie and it would seem miserable long before the wolf finally had its teeth in her throat and killed her?
“Ah!” Someone in front of her let out a choked sound of pain.
The young girl opened her eyes, which she had narrowed in panic, and peered out from under her arm, which she held protectively in front of her face. Directly in front of her was a man with black hair that reached down to his neck, where he had tied them with a red ribbon. He had broad shoulders that were as muscular as his arms and legs. A silver sheen seemed to emanate from his white skin
who fascinated Kathrin. All well and good, but what about the wolf?
She put her arm down and took a closer look. The man also held an arm in front of his face. The wolf had bitten into him. Blood ran over the wolf's teeth, down his arm before dripping onto the ground. The girl's protector had gritted his teeth; they seemed as sharp and dangerous as those of the wolf.
Now he took his free hand, grabbed the wolf by the neck and hurled it away with all his might. The wolf landed on all fours again, growled again at the two standing in the clearing, then disappeared into the darkness of the forest.
Kathrin was numb with fear. For a long time she just stood there and watched the animal go. Her Savior's words finally tore her out of her trance state. “Are you all right?” He had a soft voice that looked like a caress to Kathrin. The hair on the back of her neck stood up and she asked for more. "Y- yes. I think so ..." she stammered in a hoarse voice. There was silence again. The girl's gaze fell on the gash on the man's arm. "Oh God! I'm sorry! Does it hurt a lot?" She asked very upset. At first he seemed surprised but then he understood what she was talking about and smiled mischievously."This is nothing special. I will survive. I have a strong cure at home that will heal the wound soon."
, he answered. "Then I'll bring her home and treat the wound. I'm a nurse." Kathrin lied. She was actually an architect, but she once did an internship in a hospital and still knew quite well how to treat animal bites.
"That's very nice of you.", Thanked her rescuer and smiled even wider, his sharp teeth peeking out. That made her shiver, but she didn't show it and returned the smile.
"Where do you live? Down in town?", Kathrin wanted to know before they left.
"No. My house is a bit higher, northeast of here. It's not far. You know, I usually can't stay in such a busy city for long.", The man replied.
They went on their way. After a few minutes of silence, he asked, "What's your name?"Kathrin couldn't answer right away, his voice seemed to have side effects on her." Kathrin. Kathrin Melton. "As she answered, she stumbled and almost fell if he hadn't held her." Watch out. "" I'm a bit clumsy sometimes. ", she admitted, embarrassed." My name is Michael. "
Kathrin wanted to ask him for his last name, but when he put his arm around her waist she was unable to say anything more. "So you don't fall again," he explained and grinned, baring gleaming white teeth. Kathrin gasped for air.
After the hunter has his prey in his sights, all that remains is to kill it skillfully.
