Chapter: Dark revelation
When the sun disappeared behind the horizon the previous day, a significant encounter occurred on the island of Uvira.
A brave young but equally inexperienced scout knelt before a sinister throne that rose above a black marble hall. Large boulders were scattered everywhere. Soft evening light fell through a tall, glassless window carved into the dark stone. The young man knelt in the middle of the light and his face glowed with a soft red sheen. He felt miserable and drained. The scout had returned from a long journey and had been looking forward to a few days of rest, but his employer didn't think so. So now he had to make another arduous journey. A burden that the warrior found unbearable. He hated his master for that, but without him he would starve to death.
"Go now! You have received your assignment. Return successfully!", Said the man on the throne, his face was obscured by the darkness."Oh, and before you leave, call in Enemos!"
"Yes, my master!" The scout replied sullenly and got up to leave. When he had left the room he looked back one more time, but couldn't see anything in the darkness before the huge gates closed behind him. Without detours, he went to a servant who was nearby and told him to call Enemos. Then he left the supposedly deserted city in the shadow of the volcano on a black horse and set off.
Enemos rose silently from his cot after the servant left his tent. The city was bustling with activity. The people on the mainland believed this place was deserted, but they were wrong. Nefas had declared the island his property and built a fortress in the deserted city, the name of which has been forgotten. Tents had been set up everywhere among the ruins. Between all the graying ruins, they looked like big brown anthills.Enemos considered whether he should go to Nefas immediately, or rather wait. Since he had nothing better to do at the moment, he stepped out of his tent and went inside the city. In front of him rose a huge volcano, the Uvira, after which the island was named. The closer he got to the mountain, the more clearly he could see the huge dome-shaped building that lay in the shadow of the Uvira. It looked like a black polished hill. Nefas had made these sacred halls of the previous kings his own and now lived in them.
Enemos hated this place, if only because elves once walked there.
Without wasting another thought on it, he ran on quickly and did not look at any of the hurrying passers-by.
After wandering through the narrow and branched streets for at least half an hour (which was made more difficult by the randomly scattered tents), he finally reached the hall of the future, at least that's what it was called, and stepped through the half-open entrance gate.It was adorned with ancient runes and ornaments that once carried a spell to seal the door, but this had long since vanished. Time had squeezed magic out of the matter of the door, like the half-fermented juice from a rotten fruit
He walked a little more slowly now through a long hallway which, like the entire building, was made of black marble. The walls of the hallway looked oppressive due to the dark color and although the ceiling was at least five meters above the floor, any claustrophobic would have had a seizure.
Actually, Enemos didn't even want to bother to voluntarily visit the "worthy dark ruler", as the people called him, but rather wait until Nefas' henchmen would force him to visit these dark halls. That was much more convenient ... In his opinion, at least.
Enemos thought seriously about whether it would be better to go back, but then thought better of it.Why should I make a detour now? , he thought and stopped in front of the two tall gates that announced the end of the long and uncomfortable hallway. He glanced back and saw only darkness, even with his black elf eyes.
He couldn't deny his origins, yet he hated his people for a reason ...
Anyone would have found their eyes terrible. Terrible and ... beautiful. Yes, they were beautiful, the eyes of the beautiful people. But just as terrible. Black edges adorned his viewing slits because he no longer belonged to the elves, no longer and never any more. He had lost his pointed ears, as well as his unique beauty. He looked much more human now, so he didn't attract attention in their company. Not that an elf was anything unusual between people, but it stood out among all the steady and "clumsy" people.A swan among all the ducks.
Enemos tossed back his silver hair, tied in a braid, and turned his attention to the guard in front of the gate.
"I request admission!" He shouted into the empty room.
For a while nothing happened, then a goblin, which was engraved in the right wing of the gate, opened the gate with a big grin and made a gesture that was supposed to be inviting, but looked rather ridiculous with this creature.
Enemos passed between the two wings, which had opened just enough for him to fit through.
"Ah!" Said a loud voice from the dark. "There you are Enemos. I was already expecting you. And I had to wait a long time!"
The voice didn't sound reproachful, but there was a slightly annoyed undertone. The room, several hundred meters long and wide, was full of darkness and stank of rot. Even though it was above the surface of the earth and had at least a dozen huge, open windows. But this whole island was 'rotten' anyway.
Enemos didn't answer.
"Come closer, we want to see each other when we talk, don't we?"
"Mh ... yes."
He went on and reached the throne that was almost at the end of the hall. Nefas, who was sitting on the high seat, had thrown a hood over his head to hide his face. He was a short man and it made him look a bit ridiculous in the huge throne. But to kill creatures of all kinds en masse with black magic, you don't need a large body.
"Very nice," said Nefas, amused. "Now we can talk to each other in peace, right?"
"If you mean ..." Enemos replied sharply. He didn't feel like talking about this. "Where do you want to send me this time?"
"Oh, come on. You haven't been on duty that often!"
"In action ?! You know very well that I am not one of your subordinates! I will help you of my own free will."
"Yeah, and that's probably the problem.", Nefas thought aloud.
Enemos carried out his orders for only one reason ...
"Power!" Added Nefas.
"Power ..." repeated Enemos. A shiver ran down his spine. The feeling of strength ... power.
"A very refreshing reason, don't you think?" Blasphemed Nefas.
Enemos didn't say a word, just stared straight ahead.
"Mh ... taciturn as always!", Nefas continued.
When Enemos still didn’t say anything, he announced: "Well, I don’t want to keep you waiting any longer. You’ll definitely want to hear my request!
"And that would be?" Asked the young man, a little bored. He was actually hoping for something more exciting than his last assignment, but as long as he got what he asked for, it didn't matter to him.
"Apparently the people out there have suspected something. My old friend Etenor has launched a major offensive to stop the poachers in Minjar.""And should I kill her?"
"No! Unnecessary. My men are skilful, they will not allow themselves to be killed by such warriors. They will hide until the king withdraws his vulgar army." Nefas put a hand on his forehead and thought for a moment. "There is something else that worries me ..."
Enemos was silent.
"Etenor is probably not even about the poachers. He thinks they are a distraction, which is actually not wrong." He paused. "Tomorrow four creatures are to leave the city, two of them are human! I could see that much, nothing more. I don't know who these people should be and what their exact mission is. But at least I know that it's about saving the dragons goes, so they stand in our way ... and they are powerful! This is where you come into the game Enemos. "
"Kill?" He asked scornfully. He hated that word, as did Nefas' cold, calculating manner and his gift of 'seeing'.
There were only a handful of people in all kingdoms who could consciously use them.Nefas was one of them.
And that is what makes it so hideous! the enemos thought.
"No, no! And you know that too. They are too important. They turn the wheel of fate in our favor !! I CAN SEE THAT EXACTLY !!" The black magician stood up and grew louder with every word. He shouted the last four words and sounded so convinced, as if he had proven a previously thought to be impossible and absurd theory.
He stood there for at least five minutes, confirming the importance of the four creatures from Caen Aigion. When he slowly calmed down, Enemos had become curious.
"And what should happen to them then?" He asked loudly and clearly.
Nefas looked at the young man in disbelief (which you couldn't see through the hood, of course, but Enemos felt it) and mumbled a few incomprehensible words. Then he sat down on his throne again and took a deep breath: "Watch them! I want to know who you are. This is important, very important ... I want to know everything about you ... everything!Report to me when you find out something and don't hide anything from me! "
"Yes."
"Then go and find our fateful heroes!"
Nefas made a dismissive wave of the hand and indicated to Enemos that he could leave, which Enemos did immediately. With heavy feet and tingling hands, he left the hall of the future. He hoped never to have to return here, but knew that there was no avoiding it. After what Nefas had said it sounded as if everything depends on the 'four', which Enemos didn't really trust. He thought it was excessive and hasty.
The night had already surrounded Uvira deeply and would not let go of the city for the next twelve hours.
Heroes of fate ..., Enemos thought, looked into the cloudy night sky and couldn't help laughing. Pah! You are not heroes! For Nefas, they are probably ... bad news!
Enemos had no idea how he knew this, but he just knew and he knew it was
