A loud bark tore me from my thoughts.
I looked around hastily but saw no one.
When I looked at my watch I was shocked.
Oh no, it's shortly before six.
I'm supposed to be back to eat and it's getting dark.
I ran through the woods as fast as I could.
When I got to the end of the forest I was confused.
I stood in front of a beautiful snow-covered lake.
That must be the Shadyside lake, that means I walked in the wrong direction.
So I ran back when I ran some bushes hit my legs and caused pain.
Suddenly I heard steps behind me.
With a jerk I stopped and listened.
Nothing, nothing could be heard.
I looked around before shifting.
But I couldn't see anything through the darkness. Silence. I turned around and continued running towards the city.
I heard footsteps again, but now they were right behind me.I quickened my run.
My heart was racing so fast I thought it might burst.
But my pursuer also accelerated.
What am I supposed to do now?
Will I end up like Mom, Dad and Sandy? these words echoed in my head.
Suddenly I heard a high-pitched howl.
I got goosebumps.
I felt his hot breath on the back of my neck. That's it. This is my end
But when I saw the cemetery, I felt hope inside. Suddenly the footsteps were gone.
I looked around breathlessly. Nothing.
"Ah !!!" I shouted. I felt a sharp pain in my lungs.
Shit, I ran too fast, I have to calm down. I breathed in and out slowly. I heard my heart beating with every breath.
I felt my heart muscles move.
Take it easy, Kira. Take it easy.
Calm down, I tried to persuade myself and it seemed to work.
After calming down, I went through the cemetery.
I passed tall tombstones that protruded from the ground like broken teeth.There was an eerie silence.
No birdsong, no wind blew.
It was terribly quiet. No, there was dead silence. I shivered badly. I passed the graves quickly. Suddenly it got darker.
When I looked up, I saw thick clouds pushing themselves in front of the moon.
A long howl broke the silence.
I turned around frantically. It came from the direction of the forest. I desperately tried to see something in the dark.
And then I saw her, two blood-red eyes start at me from the darkness.
I wanted to scream, but couldn't get a sound out of my lips.
Suddenly there was a strong wind blowing up the snow.
The wind blew it right into my eyes, so I had to close them.
I walked slowly backwards and stumbled over a branch that was on the ground.
I fell with a thud.
I felt how they scratched parts of the branch on my arm. Suddenly the wind let up and I opened my eyes.The clouds that pushed in front of the moon were gone.
I got up hastily, looking around on shaky legs.
Nothing. Those terrifying eyes were gone too.
There was an eerie silence again.
What was that? I wondered.
But at this moment I couldn't have known that the real horror was still ahead of me.
I ran home as fast as I could without turning around.
When I got home, I frantically closed the door behind me.
I could hear my heart beating. So clear and precise. No, I could feel every heartbeat.
What were those red eyes? They looked so angry and sad too.
"Kira? Is that you?" My aunt tore me out of my thoughts.
"Aunt Karin!" I said and happily walked towards the kitchen.
Aunt Karin looked at the kitchen table.
I was just about to greet her when she said in a stern voice:
“Go to your room immediately, Kira!” I widened my eyes in amazement."But why?"
"You know exactly why. So go!"
She got up and took my plate and threw my food in the trash can.
"Aunt Karin? Why are you doing this?" I asked with a shaky voice.
She looked at me with an ice cold look, then grinned nastily.
"This is your punishment. Go to your room. You no good!"
I knew that there was no point in talking to her now.
So I went to my room.
