Chapter 1. The dead

Lazuli stands alone on the cliff in front of the sea and stares down into the icy deep blue sea. The sun is going down when she notices the wind coming up. Her cherry red dress blows in the wind in harmony with her hair, she sighs. With her thoughts still elsewhere, she looks up at the setting sun and has to blink. Something falls down from the reddened evening sky and gets caught in Lazuli's thoughtless gaze, it brings her back to reality. It flashes and shines with every contact with the rays of the sun, it looks like a diamond falling from the sky, but it falls too slowly, too gently for that. Lazuli comes closer and closer and she spreads her arms towards the sky to catch it. A light breeze blows it past her and she runs after him. Suddenly she stumbles and falls, but she doesn't notice that this shiny something she was chasing after landed right in front of her.She straightens up again and looks around what she stumbled upon and after a while notices something flashing on the stone floor. A little insecure she bends down and wants to pick it up, but when she touches it it disappears. Confused, she straightens up again and looks around, but she can see nothing. After a while she returns to the cliff and dares one last look down into the depths. Now or never...

She spreads her arms, closes her eyes and leans forward.

It plunges down the cliffs, it falls into the depths towards the deep, unspeakably blue sea. She does not scream and is not plagued by fear. But then a warm and gentle voice permeates her mind

"Not yet, now it's not that far." And catches her, she carries her towards the sky. When Lazuli notices that she doesn't fall any further and someone is carrying her in their arms, she opens her eyes. It is surrounded by black wings that blow in the wind and are a beautiful sight when hit by the setting sun.But why was it caught and by whom was it caught? She looks into a smiling face framed by shiny silver hair that looks towards her. Lazuli opens her mouth but puts a finger over her lips and silences her. A large, slender hand covers her eyes and she becomes dizzy. In front of her eyes everything becomes more and more unclear and blurred and suddenly everything becomes dark and she faints. When Lazuli opens her eyes again she is lying on the bed in her room, the windows wide open and a black feather on the pillow next to her.

The moon is now shining in her room and the curtains sway gently in the wind. Lazuli is not dead, she realized that as she looked around her room. Completely confused, she gets up with a dizzy head and goes to the window. There she looks out, up at the moon and breathes in the night air deeply. She must have slept a long time when it was so dark, but she had only dreamed of her plan ...She's still alive, that was clear to her, but actually she didn't want to live anymore.

Lazuli, which is actually just an abbreviation for lapizlazuli, a beautiful blue gemstone, goes into the bathroom and sits on the edge of the bathtub. Before that, she locked the door of the room so that no one could bother her. Her razor falls into her field of vision and her field of thought. Lazuli removes the blade from her razor and leans over the sink with it. With one hand on the blade and the other over the sink, she begins the first life-breathing cut. She only touches her wrist lightly with the blade and suddenly a third hand appears holding her wrist, in which hand the blade is with the Lazuli trying to finish what she couldn't do on the cliff. With wide eyes she looks around and looks like the last time in a face that is framed by silver hair. But this time she recognizes even more. She sees that it is a man and that he is wearing a long, wide, black, buttoned coat. However, what makes you even more astonishing are two magnificent graceful wings that seem to protrude from his back. But what she sees there ... these wings are black. Do angels have black wings? Another object comes into her now almost rigid gaze. A long staff with a sickle attached to it ...

A scythe like the one of death in the old stories that Lazuli heard in tent camps when she was smaller. So death, is this being death and wants to fetch it? But then she remembered that he might not even want to get her, because otherwise why would this creature have caught her when she wanted to throw herself from the cliff into the icy water of the depths of the ocean and thus take her own life. She looks into the face of the creature that is now shaking its head as if it wanted to express a * no * with it. Lazuli sticks to the creature's eyes and gazes into a sea of ice blue. The blade falls from her hand and she sinks to the ground, shivering and sobbing. He's still holding her wrist and kneeling down next to her. With her face covered in tears, she looks at him again, this being that has stopped her ... for the second time. The creature's hair falls on his face as he bends over to take her in his arms. Lazuli recoils, but the creature, which seems to be more of a young man, is not deterred and takes her in his warm and strong arms. With her in his arms, the young man stands up again and cleverly opens the bathroom door. He carries her to her room and puts her back on the bed, just like he did before. With a still tearful face, Lazuli clings to the young man, the creature with magnificent black wings. He strokes her hair and again Lazuli begins to sob and clings even more tightly to him. For a while he caresses her hair until she stops crying and looks at him again. She looks deep into the ice-blue eyes, she almost loses herself in them, but then her gaze is drawn to the man's smile. A well-formed mouth smiles friendly towards her. So friendly and warm that Lazuli feels safe in his arms. He now gently strokes her cheek and wipes away the wetness of the tears. Lazuli sneaks a smile over his lips and both look lovingly into each other's eyes for a long moment. * why, why are you doing this? * Lazuli asks himself and continues to linger in the gaze of her savior. Once more he strokes her cheek lovingly and then gives her a light kiss. She looks at him in amazement. He's still smiling. Then, a light, gentle kiss on her lips, a short smile and it slowly dissolves. Lazuli's eyes get bigger and bigger as she sees him getting more and more transparent. * don't go, please stay here and don't leave me alone ... otherwise I don't know what will become of me!* she whispers to him.

Then he disappears. Tears run down her face again, but a short moment later she notices the scythe on the wall, which has not disappeared when its savior disintegrated.
