He dreamed.
At least that's what he thought. Because the fact that he was wandering through the Millennium Puzzle with Yugi and his gang, looking for Yami, was more than unlikely.
Yugi had tried to explain to him who Yami actually is, but that didn't get into his head.
A 3000 year old Pharaoh who was locked into the Millennium Puzzle after a fight and who had shared a body with Yugi, had only recently got his own body and had now disappeared without a trace….
Who believed that? He?
No…
But he had no choice ...
After all, they were now in the puzzle and looking for him.
With a sigh he watched the others as they opened door after door and stared into the darkness.
But either her Yami wasn't here or he didn't want to be found.Seto spent the time thinking about what Yugi had told him.
It was Yami he had always played and lost against.
It had been Yami who had always demanded everything from him.
So it was Yami too, whose eyes had always fascinated him. The blue-eyed man tried to drive the image of Yami out of his head.
He was always so ………… strong, so brave …………
What had happened to him now? Where was he?
Seto looked around and his eyes fell on a door. She looked just like everyone else, normal, iron, with no special features. But somehow she magically attracted the young company boss. He ran up to her and put a hand on the handle.
She was cold.
"Kaiba?"
Seto ignored Yugi and slowly opened the door. It opened without resistance and Seto met a surge of hot air. He closed his eyes protectively and when he opened them again, he looked at an Egyptian city.
"What…?"Yugi stepped up to him and couldn't believe his eyes.
"I think that's it, Kaiba! There it is for sure!"
Seto entered the room and took off his white coat, as the heat was almost burning his airways. He heard Joey shouting behind him that it would be three times as hot here as in the puzzle and Seto couldn't help but answer.
"Wheeler, we're still in the puzzle."
He didn't wait for the dog's answer and started walking.
They were in Thebes. Yugi recognized that straight away. So this was the city where Yami had resided as Pharaoh. Oh no, the little one had said yes, that his name was Atemu back then.
Nobody seemed to take any notice of them, so they were probably invisible to everyone else again.
After less than five minutes they saw the huge pharaoh's palace. The large, imposing building took even Seto's breath away. Had he lived here? In this palace?
Incredible…
It was all so strange. He just had to dream ...You've been in America for a few months and as soon as you're back, everything suddenly changes ...
Seto ran after Yugi and his gang in silence, looking around carefully and more and more noticing how familiar this was to him.
He had accepted some time ago that his roots were in ancient Egypt, but that had never really had any impact on his future if you ignored the whole thing about Yugi and Yami.
He had never been to Egypt and yet it all seemed more than familiar to him. It wasn't normal. He sighed again as they entered the palace.
Everything looked "normal" here, nothing unusual, nobody seemed to have a problem. Joey found it downright boring.
Until Seto, Yugi and Co. heard a little boy cry. When the little one turned to the sound, he froze. After a closer look, the others also recognized who was crying: Atemu.
He was maybe three or four years old and was lying on the ground a few yards from a man.He encouraged him to get up, which the little one did and then ran up to him, still crying.
Yugi couldn't help saying "Oh, how cute ...".
Even Seto couldn't deny that this image of the little, crying Pharaoh did not leave him indifferent. A barely noticeable smile crept on his face when the father Atemus then hugged him and comforted him. After little Atemu had calmed down again, his father picked him up and together they left the group.
Nobody said anything for a while. But then Yugi spoke up.
"What do you think, why did we see that?"
Nobody answered.
"Hm, maybe we will see the meaning in the future.", Mumbled the little one.
Joey laughed out loud and rolled over on the floor. Several pairs of confused eyes then eyed him.
"You just sounded like a philosopher or something!"
Seto raised an eyebrow.
"It's a miracle you know what a philosopher is, Wheeler."The dog wanted to attack Seto in return, but he just ignored him. Tea and Tristan were just trying to get Joey back on the ground when the surroundings suddenly disappeared and only blackness remained. The door to the room could be seen further back and without really being surprised, the group ran up to it and left it. They found themselves back in the puzzle as they knew it.
Speculating wildly, they continued their search until Seto approached a door again.
Again he opened it and again one saw Egypt before him.
"Well, I'm starting to get suspicious that Kaiba keeps finding these doors.", Joey complained loudly.
As it soon turned out, it led back to the Pharaoh's past.
They landed in the same place as at the front door and went back to the palace. They had no problem entering the building and searched the inside for Atemu. When they entered the throne room, they discovered it. He stood next to his father, who was sitting on the throne and was talking to a young person who was kneeling before him. From the conversation they soon concluded who the person was.
Seth.
Seto hesitated a little, but said nothing. He studied his alter ego carefully while the others whispered softly.
Atemu stood upright next to his father's throne and eyed Seth with interest. He was maybe ten or eleven years old. When Seto looked at the little prince, he thought he saw a misshapen shadow behind him, but he thought nothing of it. He looked around further and saw the other high priests as well. But his gaze always wandered back to Atemu.
He looked kind of cute. You couldn't really imagine that he should actually have been so small once you had faced him in a duel ...
Again he noticed this shadow, which always seemed to move around Atemu. Seto watched him with narrowed eyes and quickly caught the attention of the others.
"Is something wrong, Kaiba?"Yugi asked worriedly.
"Do you see this shadow on Atemu? It always moves around him."
Yugi looked at his Yami and tried to see what Seto was talking about, but he saw nothing.
"Well, I can't see anything. What do you mean?"
"Nothing, it's okay…"
Seto looked over at the little prince with worried eyes.
That was strange. Nobody but himself seemed to see this suspicious shadow.
How so?
And what was that anyway?
But he couldn't ponder it for a long time, because again the surroundings simply disappeared, leaving only darkness.
"Well, this is getting on my mind ...", Joey said.
Nobody responded to this comment and everyone made their way back to the door and into the puzzle.
The next door Seto pushed open led her to a time shortly before Atemu's coronation. You could see that he and Seth were spending a lot of time together and having a lot of fun together. Seto brooded over this, and there, too, he discovered this shadow in Atemu. He chased him all the time unless he was with Seth.
The young head of the company also noticed that it was apparently taking on a different shape. At least it looked a lot sharper and angular now, as if it were slowly taking on the shape of a human.
Then there was a leap in time and you saw the newly crowned Pharaoh sitting on his father's sick bed and mourning. Except for himself and his dead father, there was no one in the room. At least for the others.
Seto saw the shadow right next to the mourner. Again he looked different. Now it was clearly human and had become a lot darker.
Seto was starting to panic.
The others couldn't possibly overlook that!
Why didn't they say anything !?
This time it was Tea who spoke to him. She timidly tugged at his sleeve.
"Kaiba? Is what? You look so shocked ..."
"No no…"
Yugi had come to Atemu in the meantime and was now crouching in front of him. When Seto saw that he could hardly breathe, he was right next to him !!Why didn't he notice him !?
"Yugi ...?"
The little one turned to him.
"Yes, Kaiba?"
"You don't see him, do you?"
"Whom do you mean?"
"Nobody ..."
He looked slightly resigned to Atemu, who was still sitting with his dead father, and his eyes widened. The shadow looked at him! And he waved to him !!!
Seto felt like he was going crazy.
Why was he the only one who saw this shadow?
Why was he looking at him?
Why was he waving to him?
Why did he even ask himself all this !?
Sighing and rubbing his temples, he turned around as the room disappeared again and they stood in darkness.
He pulled his hair and swore softly to himself. The others watched him, but preferred not to say anything. After all, they didn't want to upset him any more than he already was. And you could tell that he was angry ...
Whenever Seto faced a problem, he always solved it. Sometimes even within minutes. But the matter with Atemu and this shadow made him sick.He just couldn't figure out what he was seeing.
They didn't discover the next door, or rather Seto, a few hours later, when the hope of achieving anything was almost nil.
This door led them back to Egypt, but this time not to the capital, but directly to Kul-Elna. That was the first surprise. The second was the fact that they burst right into the fight with Zork. Seth was about to attack him with his White Dragon and Atemu knelt behind him, exhausted and injured. And next to him knelt the shadow that only Seto could see again. The young company boss recognized the silhouette he had now assumed: Atemus.
It looked like he was caressing
