The next day Tom came into the barn.
"Good morning, Theo."
"Good morning, Tom"
"I told you not to call me that. Speak to your Majesty."
"What will you do if I don't? What can you do?"
Tom just grimaced. He couldn't do anything because I was his precious mount. Without me he was just a foot soldier.
"Listen. I want you to train with me out in the fields."
"Okay."
He went first.
"Follow me."
I followed him into the courtyard. It was early, but the servants were on their feet. It was hectic, but people still looked curiously over at me. I just went on, Tom afterwards through the open castle gate. It was cloudy and wafts of mist hung over the fields. we stopped on a cow meadow. The castle was barely visible through the fog.
"What do you have on it?", Tom asked me.
"Well, what a dragon can do.Spit fire and fight teeth, claws and tails, and of course my magic. "
"You can use magic?"
"Yes. Any dragon can do that. You must know that dragons are highly magical beings. A dragon who is bad at magic can always compete with a good wizard of humans."
"And what can you do?"
"Well ... I'm still young and don't have that much experience with magic. But how about this?"
I let a stone float slowly through the air between us.
"So is it true that dragons can turn into humans too?"
"Yes. But only a few dragons reach this level. This requires a lot of training, and most dragons are simply killed beforehand."
It was amazing how much knowledge I could get from my wrong memory. It was probably intended that I should no longer remember my real life and slip into the role of the dragon. But I did that anyway. The question remained, why the whole thing?And how?
"Let's start with the training. Attack me carefully."
He had apparently already built trust in me. It went well.
I picked up my claws and snapped at him. He dodged and I hit him with my tail. It had come too quickly and he fell to the ground. I might have made it too difficult. He got up.
"You have a lot to do," he said.
"But so do you. Normal people would have lost out on my first attack."
We did the same thing over and over and Tom got better every time. At some point I asked:
"Do you still remember our high school?"
"What are you talking nonsense?"
"I'm talking about school. And the time before that. We're childhood friends."
He grabbed his head as if in sudden pain and dropped his sword on the grass.
"No, stop it, Theo," he whispered.
Then he composed himself and picked up his sword.
"Let's move on."
Ok, then I just had to try again later.After about an hour of hard training, we stopped.
"Let's go back to the castle, Theo."
"As you wish."
We went off. Suddenly I stopped. I had spoken to him and he hadn't complained. I was clearly making progress. So I started again:
"Do you remember what we did last school trip?"
"Berlin," he muttered.
"Exactly. And in the holidays afterwards?"
Tom stopped and looked at me.
"Is that your black magic, dragon?" He shouted, drew his sword and let it down on me.
If I weren't a dragon I'd be dead now. The sword had great speed when it hit me, but it just ricocheted off my shell. Not even a scratch remained.
Tom looked at his sword, puzzled. Then he dropped it again. He looked at me with wet eyes.
"Theo?"
"Yes?"
It fell around my neck.
"Oh, what happened here. I was only shopping for a short time, and the next moment I was swallowed by such a black hole."He let go of me again.
"I remember. Everything. But I also remember that I am the prince. It's so confusing."
"Yes, I have memories of my dragon past too."
"How come you are a dragon anyway?"
"I have no idea. I'm just as perplexed as you."
He nodded.
"Let's go back to the castle first."

Back in the castle nothing had changed at all.
"Look, that's Frau Gärtner. What should we do?"
"Act normally. You would just cause unnecessary excitement if you changed your personality now. She is a servant and knows nothing about reality."
"Maybe you are right."
"Please ask the king if you can go on a trip. The solution to the problem is probably somewhere in this reality. Maybe it's even a parallel universe or something."
"I will, don't worry. I want to go back too."With that he went over to the portal and into the entrance hall. I watched him go and then went over to the barn. I should use every free moment to practice my magic.
