Towards evening, when we were stopping again, I picked up the book and learned a few magic formulas by heart. There were mainly attack formulas, but there were also defensive spells. On one side I discovered an interesting spell.
"Here, Tom, take a look at this."
"I can not read this."
"Sorry. It's a magic to change dimensions. Maybe you get into a parallel universe?"
"Do you want to try it out?"
"Not if you don't want to."
"Well, I would love to go home again."
"Then I'll try it out."
"Are you sure nothing will go wrong?"
"Yes. Absolutely. I'm starting now."
I concentrated. Slowly I recited the magic formula and slowly let the magic escape into the surroundings.
I opened my eyes and I was standing in the school yard of the high school. Tom was standing next to me.
"Looks like it worked.", He said, "But why are you still a dragon? And why do I still have my armor on?""Oh, crap."
"Did something go wrong?"
"No. I did everything right. It's just because the universe is too distorted. We're not coming back completely. It won't work."
"And what happens now?"
"Well, either we stay here as we are or we go back to the other dimension."
Suddenly the school bell rang. The students poured out. But they stopped abruptly when they saw us. Nobody moved. Then I said to Tom:
"Tell me, didn't the headmaster suspend classes?"
"Yes, I thought too."
Suddenly a girl stepped out. Tom looked at her.
"Saskia?"
"Is that you, Tom?"
The girl was Saskia, Tom's friend.
"Yes. I'm Tom."
Saskia fell into Tom's arms. Now some teachers came and stood in front of us, but they kept their distance from me.
"What's going on here?" Asked one of the teachers. I didn't know his name.
"Isn't that you, Tom?"
"Yes it's me.""What's this get-up for?"
"Let me explain," I said, "those who have all disappeared have been drawn into parallel universes, including both of us here. But only we know that we originally come from this dimension here. So we are through magic But it looks very bad. Normally we would look the same now as we did before we left. But the distortion of the universes makes it impossible for us to come back completely. We are practically one foot still in the other universe. "
"What does that mean?"
"That means this is the end of the world. But don't worry, we'll both go and save all universes."
At that very moment the earth shook. That was very unusual because there were never earthquakes here in our area. Saskia clung to Tom in fear.
"Get off the building!" Shouted a teacher.
Then the earth tore open and swallowed the high school and half of the students.Lava boiled out of the crack, and a white light shone on the horizon that came towards us very quickly, like a white wall. Everything that touched that wall vanished into nothing.
"Quick! Bring us back!" Shouted Tom, still clutching Saskia.
I tried, but it didn't work. What was going on? This was not the time to fail. Then the light reached us and we were caught by this ray and thrown into infinite blackness.
