Chapter 1: Fear and Pain

Hinata was sitting at the table with her family and having dinner. The mood was oppressive and there was persistent silence. Until this became too much for Hinata and she interrupted it. “Father, why does Neji have to go?” He didn't even look up when he replied, “So that he can make something meaningful out of his life.” Again the silence fell over her and threatened to suffocate Hinata. So she said what Neji looked up in shock and made Hanabi grin gleefully: "Father, let him stay." Only a few seconds later the blue-haired man realized what a fatal mistake she had made. She hadn't phrased her request like one, but like an order. And that was something that Hiashi did not tolerate at all.Now she would have to face the consequences of her actions. Subconsciously or not, she had and he wouldn't hesitate to punish her.
Hiashi got up slowly, nothing in his movements to suggest that he was boiling inside. He walked slowly towards his older daughter and when he stood in front of her, he ordered her to stand up. Then he reached out and slapped her with a resounding slap. “Don't you dare give me orders.” With bowed head she nodded, sat down again and ate up. When she finished, she ran to her room.

The rain pelted the window pane, ran down the clear glass and hit the asphalt. There the raindrops seeped into the ground. Just like the girl's tears did, which first ran down her flushed cheek and then disappeared into her bed linen. She was sitting on her bed, which was in the corner of her room, with her legs drawn up and her arms wrapped around them. Only faint sobs could be heard. She wondered why this was being done to her. She had just said something wrong, was that a reason to hit her? For her father, yes. Was there any particular reason he hated her? She was his daughter, his own flesh and blood! He should love her, as he did with hanabi, and not hate her. With that thought, she was still crying herself to sleep, sobbing softly.

The next day she got her English work back at school. When she saw the note, she sighed. A"B". Her father wouldn't like that at all. He required her to be consistently good, and that meant she was only allowed to write "A" s.
When the school bell rang, fear grew. What would happen if she showed him her work? But if she didn't and he found out, it would be even worse. So she decided on the probably less painful option.

When she got home she knocked on the door of her father's study. After hearing an affirmative "yes", she entered and walked a few steps towards the large mahogany desk. “What do you want?” His voice sounded completely disinterested, but that was only the case with her and Neji. When he spoke to Hanabi, he was different.
"II wanted you-" She began to stutter in fear, which bothered him. "Please speak sensible!" He scolded her in a cutting voice. “I want to show you a piece of work.” He nodded, whereupon she put the paper in front of him. When he saw the red little "B" below, he looked up. “I told you I only wanted ones.” With that he crumpled up the sheet of paper and tossed it at her. "If the next job is the same, you will regret it. Now go and study!" Hinata was only too happy to follow this command. She quickly left the room and wanted to flee to her room when she saw the suitcases in the hallway. She stopped and turned. Then she saw Neji, who came out of the room that he would no longer live in.“I'll go now, Hinata.” Unable to say anything, she watched as he walked over to his packed bags, took her, and opened the door. He wanted to leave quickly so as not to make the farewell even harder for them than it already was, but he couldn't. He turned one last time and smiled. "I'll come visit you during the semester break. Or better. You come to me, will you?" When she saw his smile, she couldn't fight the tears anymore. She wouldn't see that smile for half a year.
He was about to turn back to the door and close it when Hinata stopped him. “Neji, wait!” She ran up to him and threw herself into his arms. He was her big brother. She just wasn't about to let him go.
She pressed her face against his chest so that the sobbing wouldn't be heard. “Please don't go!” He didn't understand what she was saying, but he could guess. He stroked her hair and promised: "We will see you again. Soon."She pulled away from him and looked at him with a tearful face." Promise? " "Promised. "Then he turned away for good, so as not to start crying too, and left.

Neji took a taxi and was driven to the airport. As he sat in the yellow car, he thought about it. Had it been right to bow to his uncle's will? And to leave Hinata with him, alone? But on the other hand: what should he have done about him? There was no one to stand in the way of Hiashi Hyuuga. He was a terrifying man in a high position. How exactly he got there was not entirely clear. Everyone just knew that one should be careful when doing business with this man. Neji remembered one thing. Since then he has not dared to contradict his uncle in any way or do anything against his will.
About four years ago he accidentally overheard Hiashi's phone call. He was furious and yelled at the person on the other end of the line. His words were, "If he doesn't want to, you have to get him to do business with us. No matter how! And if you can't, you'll regret it, okay?" doesn't mean it was bad, but there was a big article in the newspaper the next day.

Family of a company boss found dead

That didn't have to mean anything either, but it could. And young Hyuuga wasn't about to take any chances. And that's why he was worried about his cousin. If this man was capable of such a thing, what would he do to Hinata?

Now Hinata was standing alone in the hallway. In the next room her father, who hated her, and her sister, who hated her. What a family, she thought.
Sighing, she went to her room. She learned there and then began researching the Internet for a biology lecture. She made some notes on a piece of paper and put the information into sentences so that it became coherent text. She checked again for spelling errors, sentence construction errors and the like. After she hadn't found anything like that, she grabbed her math book again and tried to solve a few exercises as a practice. When she had done that too, she checked her watch. 10 pm. It was time to go to bed. She quickly put on her pajamas, brushed her teeth and lay down without saying goodnight to her sister or her father. Because, in their opinion, they didn't deserve that.
