Innocent Bird

Innocent Bird

She stood there. Alone. The building rose high in front of her. Her school looked down on her menacingly at night. She didn't know why she was here. She had to go.
She couldn't stay at home.
Her father hit her mother and she went down crying. The girl had to watch everything. She stood there petrified and looked at her parents. Her mother looked back and almost yelled at her, "Go Christine! Go away! You don't have to see this! It's nothing bad!"
Then she ran. Faster and faster. Far away. Christine didn't know where. She walked and finally stopped in front of the gloomy school, which was a former castle. She looked at them with tears in her eyes. It even had a top where there was a huge clock.
Gong Gong Gong Gong Gong Gong ...
The clock struck midnight. The blows passed like hours. She stared at the dark sky where the ravens danced in the leafless tops of the trees. She envied them.To fly free with no pain or sadness.
Suddenly she heard a melody. She thought she had just imagined it, but she sang anyway.
Her voice sounded pure ...

... your voice created a melody. So beautiful that you couldn't overhear it. The ravens sat on the branches and listened to her. He heard her too. He was watching her the whole time.
"That voice. Angelic. I succumb to it completely. I have to have it."
Then he disappeared into the dark corner of the school and went back to where he came from for the time being. She laughed. She was that stupid. Why did she sing? Nobody heard her? But it was liberating.
She walked the way she had come with a satisfied face. Back to her parents. Without fear. She hoped.
Little did she know that this liberating song would rob her of her freedom.

The next day at school she is so tired that she almost falls asleep. Yesterday evening was so liberating and yet so frightening for her.The English teacher was just explaining for the hundredth time a tense that she had mastered for a long time. She put her head on the school desk and nodded off.
When Christine woke up everyone around her laughed. She looked questioningly at her best friend who was sitting to her right. She pointed to Christine with her eyes. She followed this look and saw her teacher standing in front of her. "You are bored of the lessons, Miss Christine ?!"
She blushed. The teacher waved his notepad frantically.
"Since you see so little what you've done wrong, you can now answer for everyone to write a test on the material just explained!"
"Oh no! Great, Christine. Great!"
Everyone hissed at Christine. Even Laura, her best friend, gave her an angry look. She felt a little bad, but that went away while writing the test. From the whole class, as so often, she was the only one who hadn't made a mistake.
Her teacher almost bit her lower lip in anger. She could only give him a stupid grin.
All anger with her family was forgotten. She had so much fun here that she had completely forgotten what her father had done to her mother yesterday.
But as soon as the class was over, she felt the pain again of having to watch what her father did to her mother.
No!
She didn't want to go home.
