Chapter: A hunt in a pack
Soft steps, leaves rustled.
I perk up my ears. My whole pack had gone hunting with me.
Finally, after those days without food, Kiron had spotted a moose. That would be enough for the small pack.
Concentrated, I ducked and listened. My nose told me that the moose wasn't far away.
I looked quietly at the others and indicated with a short gesture that some of them should stay with me.
We crouched quietly in the bushes.
The other part of the pack should drive the moose to us. The biggest problem was that the animal wasn't injured or even sick.
It was quite dangerous to kill a full-grown, strong moose. But the pack was hungry and on the verge of starvation.
That brought us to this endeavor.
We waited patiently and hungry for the others and for the moose.
After a few minutes my fine ears heard a trample and the quiet paws of the wolves when they ran in the snow.
Everyone tensed their muscles, including me.
Then I could see him, the moose. Our prey.
My hocks got ready to jump. I was curious until it broke up.
The animal came closer and closer ... the others were also ready.
A few more meters ... my eyes fixed the point where I wanted to jump.
Now! With a tremendous force I jumped up and ran towards the moose. With mighty leaps I got to the now shy animal that was now encircled by the pack.
It cried fearfully. Then I noticed that it was a fully grown moose. So still pretty young.
I jumped up to his legs and got hold of one. I bit into it as hard as I could, but in the next moment flew away from the animal again.
Thanks to my fur, I didn't feel the fall too hard and got up again.
Growling, I jumped at the moose again, on his back, where I bit my fur.
An older male jumped at the animal's neck and finally finished the whole thing. The moose sank to the ground, took its last breath, and then was dead.
All the wolves rushed hungrily on the meat, the eating order was simply no longer observed.
I managed to travel a piece of meat from the moose and ran away with it.
A little further away I lay down and ate the food.
How long had I not eaten?
A white wolf sat next to me.
My blue eyes wandered to him, he smiled at me and I returned his smile.
It looked like Kiron wanted to wait until the others left a little more space so that he could eat too.
Hungry, I ate part of my prey, got up and pushed myself among the wolves. I kept biting down on the others until they finally gave way.
Young wolves ...
I finally managed to pull off another piece of meat. I brought this to Kiron, to my lover.
I smiled gently at him after I put the chunk in front of him.
My smile was returned by his gentle eyes.
"Thank you," he said softly.
He didn't know that I loved him yet, only saw a friendship between us so far.
Although I was pressed to confess my love to him, I never made it.
The day passed and evening came ...
The sun bathed a lot in its reddish light, the younger wolves fought or just romped around.
While we older people preferred to lie on the floor and doze off.
