The night was dark, blackened with soot.
The air was hot, shimmered in front of buildings.
It smelled of burned meat, corpses lay in the streets, between collapsed houses.

A young girl and a man stood to one side.
They stared at the flames, unable to do anything.
Then the child ran away, desperate, not wanting to believe what it was seeing.
I ran on to the flames, to death.
But the man wouldn't do anything, no, he was already black, charred, just leaned against the tree until the wind began to tear at him.
