It's a beautiful morning in a small and insignificant village in the land of the wind. A brown-haired little girl looks out the window and squeaks. It's sunshine. She will meet her friends again by the river. She quickly gets dressed and dashes down the stairs.
It is just about to sneak out the door when a voice can be heard. "Where do you want to go today?" Asks another brown-haired woman. "Today the sun is shining! I'll meet my friends again by the river." "You won't meet anyone until you have helped me!" replied the woman sternly. "But Mamsch ..." tried the little one. "No! No buts and now start. The sooner you start, the sooner you will be finished. Did we get along, Cho !?" (Admit it calmly, you thought it was TenTen ^^)
The 9-year-old sits down grumbling and starts cleaning vegetables. Cho's parents are farmers and, more or less, wealthy. So it happened that Cho had to help with cooking, in the field or anywhere else.
It was already late in the morning when the door suddenly opened and a man with dark brown eyes and dirty blond hair came in. "Pop!" exclaims the girl and throws herself into her arms. Laughing, her father picks her up and whirled Cho around. "Hey, you weren't that big yesterday, were you?" my he grinning. Then he takes his wife in his arms.
Before Cho's mother can say anything, Cho runs out onto the road and up the forest path to the river.
Soon Cho will have reached her goal. Everyone is waiting by the river. "Finally! It's about time you came!" says a boy with green hair. Cho mumbles something incomprehensible and walks up to him. "Now that we are all here, the fishing competition can begin!" he exclaims.
The boy's name is Aydo and he is the leader of the group. He is the strongest and only Cho can compete with him. That's why she comes right after him and Aydo always watches her a little suspiciously.The other children are Mai, Hoshi, Yan, Renni and Sani.
Mai is Cho's best friend, Hoshi is the baker's son and is responsible for the "catering". Renni and Sani are brothers, with Renni being the elder. They are the children of the village chief. And Yan. Yan is the son of Hana and Toki. He is always so quiet that nobody dares to speak to him.
So the small group goes to the fishing spot, which is located by the only larger river that crosses the country. It is very important for the supply of the village and the traffic. The dealers come by four times a year. Once in spring, then in summer, in autumn and in winter.
"Come on! Let's start. Mai, Hoshi, Yan and Cho in one group and the rest of them with me." orders Aydo. Cho knows this is not a fair split as she and Yan are the only ones in the group who can fish. Still she doesn't say anything.
Towards the end of the afternoon, Aydo declares the fishing competition over. Although there are the better fishermen in his group, he only just won. Cho is proud of her group, even if they lost.
That will bring in great praise from the adults again today if they have brought something to eat.
Cho is just taking her share of the fish when one of the animals spits something out. She looks at the thing in amazement. It looks like a ring. The girl picks up the ring when a voice sounds. "Show me what you have there!" says Aydo. For some reason Cho doesn't want to show him the ring, but the boy has already caught it and is looking at it too. "Give it back right away! It's not yours!" yells Cho. Aydo just smiles and says, "If I'm not mistaken, your team has lost and that means that you have to give me" tribute ". I'll see that as a deposit."
