It was time again. The second week of school after the summer holidays began and almost every student in England was now forced to join at least one school working group. So now it was time again to make one of the few fateful student decisions that had to be made. Before the first lesson, around three dozen students gathered in front of the bulletin board in the somewhat too small auditorium of the also somewhat too small school somewhere in Wales. Emma brushed her hair from her face with an exasperated sigh and scanned the meager offers, careful to avoid the sharp elbows of her classmates. There were quite a few sports clubs, from rugby to cheerleading and back again. A few fan groups for the social fringe groups, such as the two or three lonely goths and punks. And in addition even more uninteresting AG's which they all did not address in the least.

She had already briefly thought of cheerleading last year and this year the thought flickered through her head while her gaze flew over the pale pink note, but she was clearly too unsporting to climb over ten other girls to the top of a human pyramid. In addition, I couldn't even make those jumps where you had to stretch your legs at a 90 ° angle to all sides. Secretly she was happy when she could touch her toes without dislocating any vertebrae. Maybe she would think about it again tomorrow, about cheerleading or maybe about The Smiths AG, which was run by Jonny Potch. Whoever that was, he had a taste for flyers, his was the only one who really caught your eye right away. Maybe tonight an angel would appear to her in a dream, who could then give her a tiny tip what she should do for the rest of the year for better or for worse. Sighing, she fought her way out of the crowd and you could think the entire student body had gathered here today just to stand in her way. The doorbell rang at the first hour and the crowd slowly dissolved, so that it was a lot easier to escape.

She dragged herself leisurely up the stairs to the first floor and ran into a few familiar faces. When she got to her locker, she found Anthony half hidden behind the locker door next to her."Good morning, darling," she muttered to him and started rummaging through her locker for the history book. "Morning Emma. How are you?" Anthony emptied his Red Bull can in quick pulls and carelessly tossed it into his locker. "Good, good. And have you already chosen your future afternoon activity?", She asked and gave a low moan when she realized that the book was not in her locker for better or for worse. “Not really, maybe I'll sign up for rugby?” Emma gave a short laugh. "Yes, honey, then I'll probably be a cheerleader. Will you lend me your history book?", She gave him a fleeting smile and grabbed his book. “I wish you a nice day, Anthony.” Emma pressed the history book against her chest, even though it would probably crease her school uniform blouse. "May the force be with you," he muttered as he walked after her. He set off for an hour of excruciating, bone-dry social studies that he would only survive with a lot of luck and a pot of coffee. Since the coffee was unfortunately out of the question, he had to rely entirely on his luck. Lost in thought, he stepped into the classroom and headed for one of the back desks.

A good quarter of the class was still missing, in addition to the usual suspects and the teacher, his partner was not yet present for today's group work. For the last lesson he was put in a group with Fiona Gregg-Butler and together they were supposed to work on some topic that he had already forgotten. Restlessly he drummed a ballpoint pen on the table top and longed for a cup of coffee. Absently he opened his diary and began to scribble around, careful to keep all the loose sheets of paper together. He couldn't help thinking of his partner, he didn't know much more about her than her name. Nor had he ever felt the urge to find out more about her. But before he knew it he caught the slightly flickering gaze of her blue eyes. She sat timidly at his next table and quickly averted her eyes when she noticed that he had caught her watching him. A slight blush rose in her cheeks, which she, however, skilfully hid behind her blond mane. "You are quite late.", Anthony remarked dryly and closed his diary again. "I'm sorry, I forgot something in my locker.", She answered him while she distributed her lesson items on the table.

A slightly uncomfortable silence fell over the two, which Fiona tried to loosen up with a somewhat embarrassed throat clearing. "You are very talented.", She said after thinking for a moment. Anthony gave her a confused look at first, until it occurred to him that she had probably taken a look at his diary. "The pictures in your sketchbook are really good, have you ever thought of publishing something?", Fiona babbled a little more relaxed." Thanks for the flowers, but I'm too bad to publish anything. "He shook his head with a smile and then turned his gaze back to her as she giggled softly to herself." What's so funny? "he asked, confused again." So you know, I know a little about art and would say you're too humble about your talent. But it is well known that modesty is a virtue. ", she giggled softly again and stopped quickly when the door of the room fell shut behind her teacher with a loud bang. After a few minutes of briefing, the two put their heads back together and started working on their assignment.

A good half an hour later, most of the students crowded to the short counter serving food in the cafeteria. Most of the tables in the somewhat too small cafeteria were already occupied or in some way reserved, so that Anthony looked for a familiar face in the crowd for a moment, perplexed. Fiona stepped a little unsteadily beside him, trying to keep her tray level in the crowd.
Tony spotted Emma in the far corner of the hall and headed for her. "Do you want to sit down with us?", He asked of Fiona, who nodded slightly in response, but quite relieved because otherwise she would have had to look for a seat at an already full table where she would hardly have known anyone. Tony just nodded to Emma as he sat down on the bench across from her while Fiona gave a quiet 'hello'. "Do you know Fiona? We're doing social studies together.", Anthony said, poking around skeptically at his food. "And in chemistry, history, bio and physics.", Fiona added, somewhat disappointed that she did not leave a lasting impression on him. Tony gave her a fleeting look of surprise. "Yes, we also have a few courses together," said Emma with a dismissive gesture and slowly continued to eat. "How can you eat that stuff? It looks like you've eaten it before ..." Tony eyed Emma with a raised eyebrow and put the fork back down. "And have you already chosen an AG?" Asked Fiona, who bravely began to eat. "The thought of cheerleading just doesn't let me go. But like I said, only if you go to rugby, honey." She gave Anthony a big grin. "You can wait a long time," he replied with a short snort. "And what do you have in mind?" Emma asked to Fiona, who easily fell into a dream at the idea of Tony as a rugby player. "Oh ... I don't really know what to do either. Maybe I'll go to cook.", She shrugged and continued to eat.

It really didn't taste as bad as Tony did. "Oh, I'm already an excellent cook, nobody can teach me anything." Emma waved her hand and put the fork thoughtfully to her lower lip."I really don't know why, last year I made my decision after five minutes." "This year's offer really leaves a lot to be desired," Tony said with a sigh. Emma acknowledged this with a shrug and turned back to Fiona. "What is your favorite color?", She wanted to know and got a somewhat confused look. "Well ... maybe turquoise?" "Your favorite flowers?" Fiona thought again for a moment, tried to guess what was behind this strange game of questions. "Poppies are pretty." "Poppies and turquoise, interesting. Do you have a boyfriend?" Fiona felt a slight blush spread across her face and cleared her throat briefly. "No, I don't have a boyfriend. But I don't think we'd fit together that well, Emma. Nothing against you, but you're just not my type. Sorry." Tony chuckled and caught a withering look from Emma. "Believe me, I totally agree with you. I actually had someone else on my mind," she replied cryptically to the blonde. Although Fiona had of course understood exactly what Emma was getting at, or rather who she was thinking of, so that Tony was the only perplexed person involved. "Do you mean George from physics?" He asked before he started to eat. "Yes, George from physics, I'll just think about him when it comes to pairing Fiona." Emma sighed extensively and gave Fiona a meaningful look.

At the other end of the cafeteria, Jamie was brushing a strand of her black hair out of her eyes so that he could concentrate better on her conversation partner. "Are there any AGs to choose from?" She asked and pushed the tray away. "There are still a few that we have to approve, but I don't think there is anything you might like about it." The person opposite gave her a charming smile. "Great. Then this year I'll probably miss out on it, won't I?" Jamie sighed, this year there really wasn't a single AG to choose from that she found even halfway interesting. "Let's see, maybe there is still something for you among the outstanding working groups. We'll meet again about it and before school ends we will hang the remaining flyers on the bulletin board.", He grinned at her. “Let's see, William.” She rested
