Chapter 5: The Mysterious Girl

Chapter 5 The Mysterious Girl

"Hey, wake up you sleepy head, it's almost noon!"
It is of no use. Nils went on sleeping calmly, as if nothing had happened. Max was slowly desperate at the task of getting Nils awake. Now he has been standing in front of his best friend's bed for almost a full hour and trying to wake him up. Then Max had a rather mean idea. He fetched Moorabbel from Sister Joy and asked her to wake Nils up with an aqua gun. Said and done. The result was that Nils was soaking wet in his bed and spat out the water that he got in his mouth.
"Tell me, you two, but otherwise you’re still fine, right ?! You just had to wake me up, I would have got up by then!" said Nils indignantly and got out of bed.
Max snorted in amusement.
"I tried that for a whole hour, but you couldn't wake up. So I thought that your Moorabbel would surely want to greet you when you wake up and I asked them to help you wake up." Said Max and grinned.
Nils grumbled something incomprehensible and then patted Moorabbel on the head to calm it down, because Moorabbel had already looked at Nils anxiously, fearing that his trainer was now angry with him. After Nils got up, he went to the bathroom. When Nils had dried and dressed, they both went down to the breakfast room so that Nils could have his first and Max his second breakfast. After breakfast, they left the Pokémon Center. You had just stepped out of the center when someone ran into Nils.
"Hey, watch out where you are going, you duds!", Nils cursed as he got up again.
"Oh shut up!" A voice snarled back.
Now Nils looked up and Max also looked at the person who had run into Nils.
It was the scoundrel from Team Aqua and he was carrying a bulky package wrapped in white wrapping paper.
Suddenly a voice rang out and the Devon employee, whom they had already helped in the forest, came shooting around a house front.
"Hold the thief! Hold the thief!" shouted the employee.
Max lunged at the thief and wanted to snatch the package from him, but the thief was too strong and he pushed Max away. Nils wanted to pounce on the thief too, but he had already taken his legs in his hand and had piled up. They ran after the thief and left the city to the east. Here a wide meadow landscape opened up to them and the thief managed to gain some distance from his pursuers. They ran after the thief towards a huge mountain with an entrance to a tunnel. When they reached the entrance of the tunnel, they rushed in, seeing that the thief had also taken this route. The tunnel was quite dark and the two teenagers could see very little.Suddenly they heard a bark and a moment later something knocked over Nils. Max took a flashlight out of his backpack and pointed it at Nils. On his stomach was a little Fiffyen that Max growled angrily at. Suddenly something hit Max in the back and he fell to the ground. The flashlight fell from his hand and he crawled on the floor and aimed it at what had knocked him over. A second Fiffyen had pushed him in the back and was now growling at Max. Max picked up one of his Poké Balls and released his wobble from it. He turned to Nils and shone on his friend, but had to recognize that he was leaning unconscious against the tunnel wall. Apparently Nils was pushed against the rock face by one of the Fiffyen and crashed his head against it, because a small trickle crawled down his face. Max grimaced and turned back to the Fiffyen. Now the owner of the two small Pokémon stepped into the dim light of the flashlight and Max recognized in the owner of the Fiffyen the thief they had already collided with in the city and who had stolen the Devon goods. The man grinned and ordered his Fiffyen to get ready for the fight. Since Max couldn't hope for Nils' help in this fight, he sent Waumpel and Geckarbor into the fight.
Waumpel sent a stream of fine threads to one of the Fiffyen, enveloping it in a white cocoon. As a result, the first Fiffyen was incapacitated. Geckarbor, however, took on the second Fiffyen and a merciless fight broke out, where neither side was willing to give in. But in the end, Geckarbor was able to defeat Fiffyen with an absorber attack and the thief, cursing, took his Pokémon back into their Pokéballs. Suddenly Geckarbor lit up and turned brilliant white. It grew larger and a long leaf sprouted on its head. Max took his Pokédex out of his pocket and this announced to him that his Geckarbor had evolved into a reptain. Suddenly Max looked up because the thief began to laugh like a madman.
"All right, well. If you want the goods that much, then go get them, kid!" The man snarled and threw a small ball on the floor. There was a crash and lightning and a tremendous shock caused Max's teeth to chatter. Boulders as big as Max's head crashed from the ceiling and together with Reptain and Waumpel they carried the unconscious Nils and the Devon goods out of the tunnel. The thief had already run away and fled. There was a small boarding house very close to the tunnel and Max instructed Reptain to run to the boarding house with a handwritten note from him and get help.
While Reptain ran to the boarding house and got help, Max took out a towel and soaked it with water from his water bottle and wiped the blood and dirt off Nils's face with it.There was a wide crack on Nils' face, which ran down to his temple in his right eye and looked quite vicious. One of the temples of Nils' glasses was broken and one of the glasses was cracked.
The sound of a cart rang out and Max looked up. It looked like a horse cart, but the horses had a mane of flame and were pulling a wooden cart. How this worked without the cart catching fire was a mystery to Max, but it was only of secondary importance to him. The priority now was that Nils' wound was taken care of. An older man with a gray beard got off the cart and asked what had happened. Max told the man everything he and Nils had experienced and then they loaded the still unconscious Nils onto the cart and drove towards the pension. During the drive to the pension, Max asked the question.
"How is it that the cart does not catch fire even though it is being pulled by fire horses?"
The man laughed and replied:
"These fire horses, as you call them, are Ponita and its further development Galoppa. The cart doesn't catch fire because I have trained the two Pokémon well and they can keep themselves in check. My wife will take a closer look at your friend afterwards. She used to be a nurse in a city clinic and is still very knowledgeable about medicine. "
When the man had finished, he stopped the cart and got off the cart, for they had arrived at the pension. A woman came running out of the house with a stretcher under her arm. She and her husband carefully loaded Nils onto the stretcher and carried him into the house. Max followed them and when they were in the hallway, Reptain came rushing at Max and tore him off his feet. Max greeted and thanked Reptain for its good performance and put it back in its Poké Ball so it could rest. Meanwhile, the boarding house owners took Nils to a single room on the upper floor and the boarding house owner treated Nils in the meantime. The guesthouse owner came back down the stairs and wiped the sweat from his forehead with a cloth from his trouser pocket.
"Your buddy was lucky again, if the wound had been deeper, it would have turned out worse. But don't worry, he just needs rest and sleep. He can certainly travel on in two days. But now to you. You have with us Safety Hunger. We have a big asparagus dinner planned in our guesthouse today. If you want, you can join in the celebration. I only need a Pokédex, because with it I can check whether you are officially registered, because if you are, you can you can plaster everything that comes in front of your teeth for free! " said the man and laughed out loud.
Max smiled weakly and handed the man his Pokédex. The man took the device and went with Max into the closet and behind the counter, where there was a small reader into which he stuck the Pokédex and checked whether Max was an official Pokémon trainer. The device beeped a few times and a small strip of paper came out of a small slot in the device. The man read through the data on the strip of paper and beamed.
"Everything is fine. The festival starts today at 6 pm. Until then you can let off steam with your Pokémon in the back of the yard." Said the man and handed Max his Pokédex.
Max thanked the man and went into the yard, where he released his two Pokémon from their balls and trained with them a little.
In the next few hours the party began and the pension owner checked Nils and his state of recovery.
The party had already been going on for a few hours and Max was talking to the guests. There was asparagus and schnitzel to eat, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Max had managed to get hold of a beer that he now mixed with a lemonade. Suddenly he had to think of Nils and how he would react. Max knew that Nils hated alcohol and therefore didn't drink any. Max, on the other hand, was of the opinion that limited alcohol consumption could not be harmful and so he took a sip of his beer soda. The time had already passed and it was dark, which is why colorful lanterns had been lit everywhere. While Max looked around, he saw a beautiful girl with velvety black hair, pale skin and blood-red lips. She wore an innocent-looking dress with pink lace and she walked past the guests into the guesthouse. Max felt the urge to find out who this beautiful girl was and followed her. When he stepped into the boarding house, he could still see her black hair at the other end of the hall, but when he ran to the end of the hall and around the corner, the strange girl had disappeared.
The girl that Max had been following too eagerly was already a floor above him and right in the room where Nils was lying. She stepped up to Nils, who
