Chapter 1 A slightly different start to school
Slowly but surely the school building was getting fuller, everywhere you could hear lively talk and now and then a laugh.
It almost seemed as if you experienced a lot over the autumn holidays, so that the giggles and chatter of the students would not end if it weren't for the headmistress, who asked everyone for silence with a somewhat stern tone.
This woman, with her gray hair and yet youthful appearance, was viewed with respect.
Nobody dared to say anything anymore.
The director took the floor:
"Nice to see you all again and I'm glad you found your way here so dry and safe outside in this storm. I don't want to talk about the bush. You have probably seen that we made a few changes within the school. It's not unusual, don't let that unsettle you. You can go back to your classroom, I wish you a successful start to school. "
Just as everyone was going to the classes in a dimpled shape, only now, minutes later, a young woman appeared, her black coat a bit wet from the storm outside, her brown-reddish hair wet and somewhat disheveled. She started to curse:
"Such crap weather! Why does this always have to happen to ME? I actually didn't oversleep! That stupid bus!"
Only afterwards did she understand that she had probably missed the salutation, the esteemed director, which she also felt very sorry for, because she knew this woman well in her theology class and liked her thoughts and her empathic streak.
How often had they had interesting discussions in class trying to prove the existence or non-existence of God by means of science.
"Hey you there! Aren't you Maria? I heard from a friend that you are very tolerant and profound."
Maria looked a little confused at the blonde young lady and nodded.
At the same time this Maria took by the hand and dragged her away from the entrance.
"How lucky! I found you! Come with me, we're in a class! It's great! I'm so happy! I've heard a lot about you! By the way, my name is Eva!"
Without Maria being able to reply, the blonde walked on with her to the classroom.
However, she was a bit unsure and did not know how to deal with this direct nature. Was that normal? And what friend was she talking about? Actually, she was never particularly noticeable, was more of an introvert. Of course she had revealed one of her philosophical thoughts to the class every now and then, but that these found such approval was relatively new to her.
Many students had already taken their seats in the class and were talking in their groups. That Eva and Maria only came in now, no one noticed a few minutes late, because there was no teacher at the desk, which meant that you could continue chatting comfortably.
"Oh man!You have to sit next to me Maria! Come here! The window side is the most beautiful side! The Lord is looking at us! "
Maria, visibly confused by these words, looked at Eva somewhat uncertainly.
"Hey, I know! It's all very new! We don't know each other, but I already know a lot about you and I think we'll be good friends! Do you believe in the same God with a full, merciful heart ..."
Before Eva could finish her words, the classroom door slammed and a young, blond-haired man loosely dressed in jeans walked in with a loud: "Good morning everyone!"
Then suddenly it went quiet. Everyone looked at the young teacher in astonishment. Their faces looked like question marks were forming inside of them.
As easily as he came into the room, he sat down on the chair at the teacher's desk and took out a folder with the words: "You seem to have your theology class with me. That's nice ... let's see, who's already there. By the way, my name is Mr. Lucian. "
At that moment Maria found herself in a strange dream. She had expected her headmistress at the teacher's desk, not this young, blond-haired man, and that disappointed her somewhat.
And, as if Eva could read her mind, she immediately addressed the teacher directly: "So you are our teacher in theology?"
He grinned slightly and replied loosely to the question: "Yes, it seems so."
"But well ... do you really know about Jesus Christ, our Lord and Brother?"
There was a low whispering in the class. Apparently Maria wasn't the only one who was a little unsettled by Eva's peculiar nature.
"Hm ... you seem to have certain doubts about my personality, is that already the case?"
The teacher raised his eyebrows questioningly.
Eva tried a bit panicked to find an answer, but couldn't and so she let him continue.
Apparently she noticed herself that she didn't want to judge a person until she really knew him.
At least that's what Maria suspected that she might be thinking something like that, but well, she too could be mistaken.
While the teacher continued to look at his list and call out the names, Maria inevitably had to smile lost in thought. Spontaneously she had the sentence: "Do not judge so that you will not be judged!" in the head. Didn't Jesus say this once? She wasn't sure anymore, but it didn't matter because she was just torn from her thoughts.
"So you are Maria. Right? Still awake? Where does your spirit hover?"
Amazed, Maria looked at the new teacher.
"... or are you only physically present?"
"No! I'm not! I'm there. Fully!"
She said that for sure, and was a little annoyed by the question.
"That's nice. Not everyone can do that." answered Mr. Lucian grinned and continued with his class ...
Mr. Lucian got up and handed out worksheets. Most of the students then showed quite a disinterest in having to work on some difficult text again after a long time. Why only read texts? Isn't that much too theoretical and boring ...?
Of course, Mr. Lucian did not, but he kept his relaxed way of going on with his lessons.
"But ... I know that!" It came to Maria, like a shot from a pistol.
Lucian had to grin again: "Yes, of course it can be that you will also find well-read people here at school ..."
"No, you get me wrong. We had already worked on Genesis in class with the headmistress."
Eva and the others in the class agreed.
Some began to sigh and a rebellious student even added her mustard loudly: "Oh you keep getting the same shit here ... and then also a passage from the Bible !! Totally desolate !!"
The teacher then turned to this student with a thoughtful look: "Hm ... if you already know this text, then you can certainly explain to me what" Genesis "actually means and what is it talking about?"
The disturbing young lady, called Steffi, grimaced. "Oh, you'll tell us about that in a moment, it doesn't make sense whether I tell you now! God created himself or something ..."
Before the teacher could say anything, Eva stood up energetically and shouted: "Hello ??? Are you still? You're totally on the wrong track, because God, our Lord created this wonderful world and us humans, how can you?" Forget something so important! Pah! "
Steffi just rolled her eyes and started an argument with Eva.
Meanwhile, although she knew this text, Maria read on carefully and was lost in her own thoughts.
Mr. Lucian, who was not right that both of them were already entering into a discussion, interrupted the heated conversation with the words: "Firstly, it makes sense to hear your thoughts on the subject, because you have certainly learned in pedagogy How important it is to be of age, to be able to form your own opinion and to make use of it, if necessary ... but in order to be able to really form your own opinion, you also need knowledge, as is well known ... I think you know that all of you who are sitting here. And to Eve, I value your faith very much, but didn't the Lord create himself a little with the creation of mankind? "
Not only Eva had to sit up and take notice, but this time it was also Maria who stared at the teacher in astonishment at these words.
Some looked at him a bit puzzled, some others still a bit disinterested and already pondering about the next break.
Before anyone could reply to these words, the shrill school bell rang and some of the thoughtful schoolgirls jumped up.The teacher smiled and ended his lesson with friendly words, harmonizing in himself.
When he left, Eva ran after him nervously. She probably wanted to continue arguing with him.
Maria, however, sat quietly in her seat. She didn't move at all.
Why also? With his breathtaking, rhetorical question, Mr. Lucian pulled her a little under the spell.
Behind her, the rain hit the large window panes, tearing her a little out of her thoughts.
She was just about to get up when she heard Steffi gossip with others about Eva.
Actually, she didn't want to interfere either, but then she was inevitably involved.
"Well, don't you think that Eva is weird?"
Maria got up, took her bag and before she left the room, she spontaneously uttered the words: "Do not judge so that you will not be judged."
Then she was gone too. Her quiet words were only heard by Steffi, who replied contemptuously: "Also such a madwoman!"
