Chapter: Practice fight

"Oh please Kura!" I begged desperately. One gust of wind and I stuck to the opposite wall. A little angrier, I brushed the dust out of my pants and stomped back to my guardian.

"Why not? I would really like to explore the area! I also promise you not to attract attention" and by attracting attention I meant maybe flooding the whole area.

"Because it doesn't work! You know that we have to hide! And besides, you're still way too young ... maybe when you're 18", a grinning Bakura patted my white-haired head and left the room.

Disappointed, I sat down on my little bed and looked from my feet, which I had just admired, to the door. My best friend Malik entered. "Ry! Did you fight with Bakura again? You know that it doesn't make sense," he laughed and patted me on the shoulder. I smiled weakly. I was totally happy to have Malik. He was, so to speak, my solid rock.

"I'm still hoping that he'll give in", now I really had to grin, as I heard for myself how unlikely that sounded. Yes, only I was lucky enough to get such a crazy guardian. Already 7 years ago, since I discovered my affinity for water (I flooded the swimming pool, and yes, something like that is possible, but don't ask how) the "incredibly nice" (can you imagine my sarcastic tone?) Bakura taken away from home and brought here to Domino, or rather near this city. There is a secret shelter for people like us. And the top priority is: no one should ever find out about our "gift". This consists of an "affinity" or "connection" to one of the four elements, air, earth, fire and water (and no, we do not come from this series "Avatar" xD). My platinum blonde friend got me out of my thoughts.

"Have you already forgotten the training? We still have", a look at the wristwatch "26 seconds" the bronze-colored lips were twisted into a mischievous grin.

I nodded and heaved myself to my feet. I bowed gallantly and with a "Whoever is there faster, Mister Prince", and stuck my tongue out as I ran off.

I liked to kid him with this nickname, which came from the fact that he could act very snuggly. But basically he was a very cool guy who couldn't be upset by almost anything.

From behind he countered: "At least I am not too big a lint of dust" laughing, he almost fell face first into the next corner, but was just able to avoid it. Immediately I turned to him and called my element, concentrating on the calm force. I smiled and watched the small ice trail that formed just before Malik's feet. Of course, the platinum-blonde Egyptian noticed this too late and he only managed to brake with his face. But he did not put up with this and I felt the first tremors under my feet. And I couldn't hold out much longer either and fell to the ground. Rolling on the floor with laughter, we clapped each other and got up again. My friend gave me a friendly poke on the shoulder.

"We should really hurry now. Otherwise Mr. Devlin will get upset again. Come on," he went ahead to the training room. Since we had to go there from the young wing, we still had the whole area in front of us. Shortly before we could enter the training room, we were stopped by Marik. As always, the blond hair stuck out in all directions and only emphasized how crazy Marik actually was. We both greeted the older man in a somewhat friendly manner. After all, he was Malik's mentor.

"Too late for training again? I know two guys who will clean again," grunted the muscular Egyptian with a grunt. Undaunted, the smaller dark-skinned man stood up in front of him.

"The only thing I'll clean is your blood from the wall when I'm done with you," but the blonde Egyptian couldn't really stay serious. With a grin, he punched his board member in the chest and even pushed him a step backwards. This was red in the face with anger and when we turned around, he was about to throw a ball of fire at us, (really very ripe for a 21 year old) but he was just stopped by the strolling Bakura.

"Don't you dare to bend a hair to my protégé", a threatening gust came up that disheveled the white hair of my larger likeness.

"Hey Kura, dude! I was wondering where you are. I really have to tell you something ..." but we didn't hear more as we entered the hall. Malik turned to me again and said:

"Sometimes your minder scares me shit. I mean, did you see that twinkle in his eyes? Really creepy," the Egyptian shook himself symbolically. Even though I knew what the platinum blonde was talking about, I just shrugged my shoulders. "He just wants to take care of me"

Not really convinced, he raised a perfectly curved brow. "Well, as you mean. Let's go change" the lockers were quickly emptied and the sports clothes quickly put on.

Our "training" consisted mainly of this: we had to master all kinds of close combat (whether with sword or fist), long-range combat (bow and arrow, of course) and we had to learn to control our element. This meant all subspecies of the elements, just like my affinity for water, I also had to learn to control the ice (yes, I know, I think it's super cool too).

The hall was already teeming with "students". (Here you were also treated like a student, we had to go to class as normal) With our heads bowed, we tried to hide from our black-haired trainer, which didn't work sooo well."Already present? As a punishment for your delay you have to set up the training equipment", Duke drilled us. At the same time we rolled our eyes and went to fetch the heavy equipment. Some students, of course, laughed at us. Can still be cheerful, it went through my head. But there was one thing I couldn't understand. Why did we have to learn all this stuff? I mean, I can still understand the elements, but why did we have to master judo or fencing? That was totally nonsensical! I was abruptly torn from my confused thoughts when a heavily sweating Yami fell at my feet. "Very good Yugi! Right again!"

Slowly I let my gaze wander to the small, grinning hedgehog, who was puffed up with pride. Since Yugi had an affinity for fire, the most difficult element to control (fire is the only element that not only comes from nature, but almost always has to be produced in-house), he apparently gave Yami, his mentor, a real ball of fire . Since Yami also mastered the element of fire, he was the perfect teacher for the little spiked head. I also counted Yugi among my few close friends. I shared a room with him, Malik and Joey. But more on that later.

Yami was on his feet again and slowly circled Yugi, resembling a creeping panther. Almost everyone was now looking over with anticipation, letting themselves be carried away by the fighting game. Spellbound by the grace of the taller, brightly haired man, I almost missed him shooting a shower of sparks in the direction of his smaller counterpart. But Yugi blocked this attack skillfully and built a wall of fire. Everyone sucked in a breath of fresh air. What a difficult technique! But as expected, the hot wall broke and ebbed. Yami used this immediately to grind his protégé with a skilful grip. The smaller one was unable to move.

Smiling, he wriggled from the arms of his teacher and thanked him with a small bow that consisted of no more than a nod of the head.

"That was really very impressive, Yugi-chan. Very few people try this technique," the older one patted his shoulder encouragingly, "I'll show you how to do it again" and they continued with concentration. A short wave from Yugi made me smile and I said hello back.

When Malik and I were finally finished with the equipment, we were promptly divided into a duel. And I, of all people, had to deal with Marik, and Malik Duke, our "PE teacher" himself, was assigned.

Somehow I was scared when I stood across from Marik in the fighting circle and bowed, as was customary. I didn't miss his mischievous grin. On the edge I spotted Bakura, who looked angrily in my direction.

Even he, one of the elders, (that was one of the things about aging ... We only got one physical year older every 5 years, if you understand.Must have something to do with our gift) couldn't say anything against an "easy" or "harmless" training fight. But Marik was anything but harmless. He liked to overdo it in the fights and went too hard.

I can do it, I told myself well. He's just an oversized chimpanzee, it can't be that difficult. When I raised my head again, narrowed amethyst-colored eyes met mine. A silent sign. With that the fight was on.

Armed, I tried to guess his first step, while I was already calling the water to me. That requires a lot of concentration, because I first had to guess where I could get this from. I should actually have an advantage, but Marik was a strong fighter and he was all too good at his element. In my brooding, I realized too late that the great Egyptian was already gathering to attack. Red sparks danced all around him, forming a giant ball of fire in his hands. But he did not attack yet. He wanted to give me a chance. I lifted the corner of my mouth in amusement. His mistake. So fast that almost no one saw it, I shot a few fragments of ice at him. But even if I expected it, I was still amazed at how quickly he had melted the sharp projectiles. He raised an eyebrow and was still playing with the hot ball in his hands. That made me kind of angry, but maybe that was exactly what he wanted to achieve. Now he made a lunge to the right, which of course I followed immediately (according to the motto: Wuhu! A faux pas! Assbombeeee!). The platinum blonde reacted immediately and threw the flaming ball at me. With a last effort I was able to fend off this with a sufficiently large wall of water. This had cost me a lot of strength.

I have to concentrate more! I thought indignantly. Immediately my gaze wandered to Bakura, who looked almost disillusioned again. No, I won't let him down this time, I concluded.
