Cody looked out the window of the car. The raindrops pattered against the window pane. He heard the windshield wiper squeak on the windshield. His mother pounded the steering wheel in a calm rhythm and hummed a song. // How can she be in such a good mood with this weather? // Cody wondered, turning up the music on his cell phone. Since his mother was talking to him, he hadn't put on his headphones, like those of a DJ, but was listening, even if his mother was annoyed. "Oh, come on, Cody! Even if you're in the mood for the weather, you can still be a little happy! After all, you're going on a school trip for a week!" Cody rolled his eyes. “Yes, a school trip to a horror house, to a place that nobody knows!” His mother laughed. "So, if the sunshine, would you tell me how great it is to go to a haunted house. You'd fidget nervously back there and always ask: When are we, when are we there?" his mother in the rearview mirror. Somehow she was right too. Cody would really be different when the sun was shining. “What do you mean?” The boy was startled. What did his mother say? Cody frowned. "What do you mean?" He asked his mother. "If Mio shows up!" Said his mother and looked at him through the rearview mirror.
"Why shouldn't Mio show up?" He asked her interested. His mother laughed. "Well, the little one is so scared, I can't imagine that she would voluntarily walk into a haunted house!" "Mom, there are no ghosts!" His mother winked. "Don't be so sure about that! Back then you were so convinced that a monster lived in your closet and that your pants would become independent as soon as the lights go out!" His mother laughed again. She loved teasing Cody about his past. "Oh, we arrived at the train station!", His mother sighed and looked over her shoulder with a sorry look. “It will be so quiet without you at home!” Cody was an only child and he had never met his father. "Enjoy it, Mom! When I get back, I'll be a lot more annoying!" Cody was about to open the door when his mother screamed his name outraged.
"Young man! Hood up, cell phone and headphones off! They mustn't get wet, just like you, my darling!" Cody groaned and leaned back in the seat.He took off his headphones and put them and the cell phone in his backpack. He grabbed his jacket from the passenger seat and put it on, the hood on his head. “Are you still coming, Ma?” His mother smiled. "Of course! A little, fragile girl like you will hardly be able to drag this heavy suitcase to the bus all by herself!" The boy pouted // What kind of mother I have! //

Mo looked out the window of the bus and shouted loudly, "He kooooommmmt !!!" when he saw Cody strolling on the bus. Mr Blombeck cleaned his glasses and gave the bus driver a sign. Both of them got off the bus to pick up the straggler at the port.
"Ah Cody! There you are! I thought you weren't coming any more!" Mr. Blombeck ran with big steps towards Cody and his mother. He gently shook the lady's hand. "Call her to see Mrs. Smith!"
"The joy is all mine Seitz. I ask you not to allow yourself to be bullied by my son too much!", She joked and shook Cody on the shoulder. Mr. Blombeck adjusted his glasses and cleared his throat. "Don't worry. I'm not going to torture Cody as badly as I always do in math!" Cody raised an eyebrow. “Don't you think that I won't torment you as badly as I usually do?” The teacher laughed impatiently. "No, no! Everything is already correct! Now, give the bus driver your suitcase and join the others." Cody's mother gave the bus driver the suitcase. Even if all of his classmates looked out of the window, she didn’t take it upon himself to give her son a big peck on the forehead and give him another hard squeeze. Cody could hear everyone laughing. "And don't let the ghosts eat you!", She whispered in his ears and let heavy hearts off of her son. "So then I will! Have fun, schnurtzel bunny!". . . Those were her last words when she disappeared behind the rain wall.

Cody took the liberty of sitting next to Mo. (What does he mean here he took his liberty? It is clear that Mo is keeping a place free for him!) "Peace Diggen!", The black-haired greeted his friend. Instead of the blonde at least saying "Hello", he threw his backpack in Mo's face and flailed on the seat. He looked around. Who was he looking for? Not seeing the person he wanted, he turned to his friend, who was sucking on a grape cane. "Say ma´, Mo. Did you see Mio?" Mo raised an eyebrow in amazement, as if he didn't know who he meant. "What do you care, Mio?" He asked the blonde. There was a grin on his lips. Cody felt a slight blush rise in his face. "I don't want anything from her if that's what you think!" Mo grinned "Are you sure about that? Your cheeks tell me something different!" Cody puffed his cheeks."Idiot! I want to know if she's sitting here on the bus!" Mo smiled, finally he pulled himself together and told him where Mio was sitting. Cody was amazed. She wasn't that far from the two of them. But why didn't he see her? The reason is, she was crouched in her seat. Cody hopped to her seat and looked over the back. The girl sat anxiously on the seat and stared into nothing. Nobody sat next to her and Cody took the liberty of sitting next to her. "Mio? Are you okay?" The girl winced when she noticed that someone had sat down next to her. "Uh ... Yeah, everything's okay!" She said softly and smiled. Cody didn't trust the peace. He had to tell her something. But what? He felt stupid to sit next to her for no reason. "Uh, nice that you came. I thought you would stay home, you know?" Mio looked at the boy with her big brown eyes. "Well, I don't feel very well about it, but ... it certainly won't be that bad. Everyone knows there are no ghosts!" She tried to sound strong, but Cody knew her too well to know that she was afraid of a heathen. "Yes, you are right. It will be fine! And if a ghost comes too close to you, it will get to know me before me!" Only later did Cody realize what he had just said. // Oh, oh // He felt himself blush and clutched at his denim. Mio looked puzzled. He couldn't talk his way out of that! Now it was very obvious. Cody stammered and scratched his head. // Oh no, what do I tell her now? // Cody straightened up. "Did you hear? Mo called me. I'll be back then." And so the crimson boy ran away. Mio grinned. She felt how warm she was and how a great joy rose in her.
