Secret
be silent. Two can keep a secret if[/i]one of them is dead. Or not ...", I thought bitterly and followed my sister, who stomped down the stairs and was on her way to the kitchen.
She tossed back her dark blonde hair vigorously. Maybe she was really pissed off. Mia stepped behind the counter, then turned around to me. She gave me an irritated look, pressed her lips together, then turned back to fiddle with the cutlery in the dishwasher.
It took a while before she started to speak: "The police want to ask you questions again tomorrow. They consider it very suspicious that your best friend perished violently yesterday. It's unbelievable that I have to say that out loud too ..." She had mumbled the latter to herself as if it were annoying her, but I had understood it clearly anyway.
My eyes only widened briefly with excitement before forcing myself into a poker face again. My gaze slid over to the knife block that was only a few inches from me on the sideboard.
"To be honest, I don't know what to think of it either! My little sister may be a murderer ..." Mia continued to moan. The dishes began to clink louder.
"So you almost made it anyway. Just try it", I thought to Laila and noiselessly pulled one of the knives out of the block. The clean blade gleamed in the light from the kitchen lamps.
I stepped close behind Mia and rammed the big knife right into her back with one quick, powerful movement. She gasped dryly and satisfactorily, tried to scream but failed. I aimed well, and apparently hit the lungs. I could feel her body trying to gasp for air but just not wanting to.
I pulled the knife out quickly, grabbed her dark blonde hair, and tugged her around so she could look me in the eye.At least she should know that I would never kill her if it wasn't absolutely necessary ... I grabbed her head in both hands while I noticed the frightened, shocked expression on her face. She shouldn't act like that. She was basically as much to blame as my parents. Roughly, and with all my strength, I hit her warm head against the edge of the sideboard. Once. Twice. 3 times. I felt a few warm sprinkles splash on my face.
When she stared at me with lifeless doll eyes, I pushed Mia's rigid body to the ground. I would take care of this mess later.
It was a good decision to hide this little memory in my favorite toy from back then ...

Moonlight bathed the cemetery in a ghostly light. It just fell on us as if it wanted to bathe Laila's tombstone in a special glow. It was just a tombstone with her name engraved on it. No hole had yet been dug and no dead body under the earth. They probably wouldn't find her body either ...
I had forced my long, blonde hair under a dark hooded jacket.
I bent down and gave the cold stone a gentle kiss like the one given to other people on the forehead. "Just keep trying, best friend. No matter what stone you throw in my way, I'll remove it. No matter who it is. You promised you are silent. Now you do it yourself in death not ... what a terrible friend. "
I dropped my head against the cool stone and let it rest there for a moment. Yes. She was a bad friend. She just wanted to reveal my secret. But she was also my only and dearest friend.
I heard my own voice singing the song on my music box that would never sound for me again:
"Look into my eyes
Now you're getting sleepy
Are you hypnotized
By secrets that you're keeping?
I know what you're keeping
I know what you're keeping
Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you
Won't tell what I said
Cause two can keep a secret
If one of them is dead ... "
