Chapter: Today
Nami opened his eyes dazed. A depressing sultriness surrounded her and she found it difficult to identify the muddy green above her. After blinking several times, the outlines became clearer and she was able to assign the green to the foliage of tropical palm trees. That irritated the Nami. Weren't they on their way to the next island? The hard thinking gave her a headache and she touched her forehead. In general, she felt slightly nauseous and her whole body ached as she sat up.
"Nami, did you finally wake up?" Asked a soft voice, relieved.
"Sanji?", Nami asked confused and tried to find her smutje. "What happened?"
"We went overboard in the storm and landed on this island," explained the blonde and handed Nami half a coconut in which there was clear water. "Drink first, you slept a long time. We should be safe here on the beach. I haven't felt any dangerous auras so far."
The navigator nodded curtly before drinking. How wonderful and refreshing the water tasted!
"We are lucky that this is not a winter island," said Sanji and smiled knowingly at Nami.
"You're right. So I'll be careful that no insects nibble on me!" She promised.
"You should eat something. I have gathered enough fruit and then we can see if there is more on this island. We might even find a wild boar for a small portion of meat."
Nami laughed out loud while she ate the fruit on offer. "I'm not Luffy!"
"Good to know!" Grinned the cook and held out his hand to her after she had eaten so that she could get up better.
The navigator took the hand and took a closer look at her surroundings. They were still near the beach and the sound of the sea whistled in their ears. The golden sand reflected the warm rays of the sun, so that Nami screwed up her eyes because she was blinded. Good thing Sanji had laid her in the soft grass and the shade of the palm trees. She was touched that he had looked after her so well. He could even find food.
"How are you? Have you injured yourself?", Nami asked.
She had just remembered that she hadn't even asked how he felt and was embarrassed.
"I'm fine. I'm more concerned about our friends. Your navigator and the Smutje are no longer on board. The captain is going to freak out!", Sanji replied and took off his black jacket.
Nami looked at him questioningly as he handed her his garment.
"Even if it is warm, please put it on! Not that the insects attack you after all, then our doctor will go nuts," explained Sanji.
Shaking her head, she complied with his request and took a closer look at the sky. She got a bad feeling. "There will be quite a storm to come!"
"I'm not surprised on a tropical island," mused Sanji thoughtfully. "I saw a mountain from the beach. Perhaps we should get an overview from there. With a lot of luck, a cave could be a shelter."
"You are right, Sanji."
Together they went deeper into the jungle. While Sanji pushed stubborn lianas and huge ferns aside so that Nami could pass, the navigator had her climate-tact stick ready for action.
"It's really strange. Apart from small animals and a lot of birds, I can't see any dangerous animals or predators," said Sanji. "I don't think there will be a town or a village here either. It looks too untouched for that."
"We'll find a peaceful island there and the rest of our gang won't be there," Nami snorted, already a little out of breath."They'll find us. Just trust Luffy's instinct!"
"You mean after his stomach is full?"
"Exactly!"
"I don't think so!" Nami smiled. "Can we take a break here? Seems like we've reached the mountain."
"Okay, that's a good idea," said the Smutje. "Take a rest, I'll get the fruit from the tree."
With his Skywalk, Sanji easily managed to reach the top of the tree and pick ripe pineapples.
The navigator sat down by a sturdy tree. Fortunately, shortly before the ascent, there was still a fairly treeless, albeit tall, meadow. Nami's stomach growled loudly and this time she was very glad that she was stranded here with Sanji. She didn't want to imagine what would have happened if she were stranded alone and on a dangerous island. Although she was happy that she was washed up on an island unharmed at all. It was certainly not normal for the New World!
Nami was torn from her thoughts when Sanji held perfectly cut pineapple pieces in front of her nose. She looked at him in disbelief.
"Wow! Thanks, Sanji."
"Where were you with your thoughts?" He smiled at her behavior.
"We were lucky and in several ways. We survived the storm, are stranded unharmed on a tropical island where there is enough food and no dangers! In contrast to our last stay, it is really paradise!" Nami and ate the fruity-sweet pineapple meat on the side. "Last but not least, we have you back too!"
Sanji choked on the last bite of his pineapple and the fruit acid stung his throat uncomfortably. "I would never have gone willingly if you weren't in danger!"
"I know that. But stop touching me with kid gloves! Do you think I do not notice your cautious behavior towards me? You are so cautious and hardly use our nicknames!", It gushed out of her.
For the last few days it has been on the tip of her tongue that her Smutje addressed her extremely carefully and that his behavior towards her had become very cautious in general. As if he was afraid of hurting her again.
"I didn't even notice. Sorry Nami-swan, you must have felt really unloved!", He remarked.
Before he could fall into a love frenzy, however, he paused for a moment. Nami rolled her eyes at the nickname, but it wasn't. He suddenly felt threatening presences and there were not a few. So many that they were already surrounded. Sanji also became aware of this and felt goose bumps running down his neck.
"Sanji?"
"We are surrounded."
Nami's eyes became huge and she looked around frantically. She herself hadn't noticed anything.
"Sanji, just look at those many eyes!", She drew in a sharp breath as she became aware of her situation.
"I know. Don't worry, I'll protect you, Nami-swan!", Sanji promised and stood back to back to her.
The many ice-blue eyes had not yet attacked the two, but only observed their behavior. It was strange to be eyed by floating eyes that either flew in the tree or in the bushes. These many blue dots came towards the pirates only slowly, detached themselves from their surroundings and took on human forms. After a while, it became clear to Sanji who was hiding in front of her nose: It must be a primitive people, otherwise they would have a lot more than just a few leaves and ferns around their hips. They carried lances, but they were not threatening. However, an extreme reinforcement haki turned these ancient spears into extremely dangerous weapons.Still, they didn't seem to want to attack. Instead of keeping the lances raised, their tips were pointed at the ground. The definitely greatest warrior even put his spear in front of him on the grass and walked slowly towards the pirates, showing his palms as if he wanted to calm them both down.
Sanji loosened his tense posture and Nami also lowered her climate control stick. Neither of them wanted to cause a fight and as long as the strangers didn't attack them, they were fine.
The great warrior was now a good two meters away from Sanji, but did not come any closer. Then he surprised her by putting his hand on his chest and bowing slightly. Sanji was confused for a moment, but he imitated the gesture. It was clear to him that this was the leader who greeted them both, only astonished him that not a word was spoken yet.
The corners of his mouth rose slightly and now this Nami looked straight into the eyes and tilted his head slightly.
Confused, Nami exchanged a brief look with Sanji, only to then repeat the gesture. It struck her as so suspicious. In doing so, they had gotten through stranger situations.
The warrior's smile widened and he turned to his group, holding out an inviting hand. One woman made her way out of the remaining dozen and accepted the leader's gesture with a smile. Nami let out a quiet breath again. She hadn't even noticed that she had stopped this. But her fears that the woman would be dressed in the same way as the rest of the warriors were not fulfilled. She wore only a fiber bandeau, but that was fine with Nami. Without the top she would have been afraid that her Sanji would die of blood loss here on site. Only now did Nami notice that the woman was not carrying a weapon at all. All she could find was a small pouch on her hip. The woman took something out of this bag, put it on her left hand and held it out to Nami.
The navigator paused and examined the contents more closely: It was a seed. Nami looked questioningly into the crystal blue eyes. The young woman understood, pointed briefly with her right index finger at her hair, in which many beautiful, pale yellow flowers were intertwined. With a smile, he took a small bottle out of the bag and dripped some of it onto the seed. Shortly afterwards, the two pirates saw the seed germinate. Small delicate tendrils grew longer and longer, and the woman raised her hand so that the tendrils passed into Nami's hair and braided into her hairstyle. Sanji watched in amazement as the tendrils merged in Nami's hairstyle. He already liked this arrangement when Nami had worn it on Gran Tesoro. Occasionally he could see small white buds, but they did not bloom. Still, he thought it was a great gift for such a great woman. They definitely wanted to show that they were kind to them. The warrior was looking at another man who had both hands formed into a circle and slowly squeezed them together so that only a circular ring could be seen. Sanji irritated this gesture and when the leader looked after the sun and nodded, the cook also looked at the booth. Okay, it was still afternoon, but in a few hours the sun would set and who knows what really lived here on the island It was not for nothing that the warriors carried
