Chapter 2: Memories

Bathed in sweat and with tears in his eyes, Nami woke up. That dream again. Why did she have to torment her memory so much? Almost the same every night. It seldom happened that she could sleep in peace, dreamlessly.
Still tired, she looked outside. The sun was slowly rising. There was no longer a cloud in the sky. It must have rained overnight.
One look at the alarm clock told her that it was 6:35 a.m. Much too early to get up. So she decided to turn around again and go back to sleep. But as soon as she closed her eyes, she saw Zorro again, how he had yelled at her with his ice-cold gaze to disappear. These words still hurt today and she felt that familiar burning sensation in her eyes again.How could she forget everything when she kept seeing these images? She didn't want to see them! Above all, she didn't want to see Zorro anymore. She wanted to forget him more than anyone else, to wipe him out of her mind, her memory. But it was exactly he who haunted her constantly in her dreams and made them a torment for her.
"I hate you, Lorenor Zorro, yes. For everything you did to me, I hate you. And if we should meet again at some point in our life, then I swear I will take revenge, bloody revenge. Leave on it. You don't deserve it any other way and my heart is crying out for it. " she whispered into her pillow and squinted to hold back the tears. Yes, she had decided that she would take revenge, take revenge for the past two years, and for the half year of their being together, in which he had so shamefully lied to and betrayed her.
Nami pressed the pillow tighter against her face until she was sure she had overcome the tears, and then stared at the ceiling.Half a year, that damn pig!
And she had been so happy when they kissed for the first time and finally confessed their feelings to each other. It all started when they finally arrived back in the "blue sea" after Sky Island. She had been the only one who was unharmed and had therefore taken care of the others. Chopper couldn't do it.
During this time she and Zorro had grown closer and closer. While she tended his wounds and changed the bandages, they had talked a lot and got along better and better. Zorro had told her about his promise to be the best swordsman in the world, and she told him about her terrible childhood under Arlong's rule. That was the first time she'd shown her deepest feelings to someone and she didn't even know why she'd done it. But it had hurt to bring back all those memories.Zorro must have noticed that, because according to her story he had taken her comfortingly in his arms and hugged her tenderly. Then she felt this tingling for the first time, everywhere he touched her, and when their eyes met, she knew she had fallen in love with him. But she hadn't believed that he felt the same way, after all, before that, they had mostly just gripped each other. But then, from one second to the next, it suddenly happened: he just kissed her. It had been very surprising for her and at first she hadn't known what to do next. She loved him and she was glad and happy that he apparently loved her too, but she was also afraid of being hurt.
On this day, after a long search, they finally met Shanks and his people. Luffy was of course totally over the moon and Usopp was overjoyed to see his father again. Only she didn't care.She had only thought about herself and Zorro. But just one of Shanks' people, Shanks himself, had helped her to make a decision. He had said that she should just listen to her heart, and that is what she had done.
A huge mistake.
If Robin had only been there, things might have turned out very differently. Why did she have to go too? Exactly one day after her recovery, she left the team on the grounds that she wanted to work as an archaeologist again. Finding the sunken city on Sky Island had fulfilled one of her greatest dreams and realized how much she missed her previous life.
'Oh Robin, how are you? 'These thoughts turned in Nami's head for a while, until her eyes finally fell again and she fell asleep.

When Nami opened her eyes for the second time that morning, it was shortly before half past ten. Already a bit fitter and with a growling stomach she decided to have some breakfast first.She quickly put on something fresh, she had fallen asleep in her clothes, and went to the door. Her eyes fell on the calendar that hung on the wall next to it. Without further ado, Nami stopped in front of it and looked for today's date. It was June 26th. In a week it was her birthday again. Then she would be 22 years old. Time passed too quickly.
And, even if she couldn't believe it herself, she would actually get married in 4 weeks. Namely Jamie, the 24 year old son of the richest and most famous family in all of East Blue. She had already met him 4 years ago when she was still alone as a thief. She was on the run from the Navy when she more or less bumped into him. He then helped her hide and later flee the island. She hadn't known then why he had done that. But she hadn't been interested either. The most important thing for her was to get off the island as soon as possible.But now she knew why. He had fallen in love with her at first sight.
With a wave of his hand, Nami turned the pages of the calendar and fixed her eyes on the day framed with a thick red pencil: July 24th, her wedding day.
After she disappeared from the island, she hadn't thought that she would ever see Jamie again. Well, what's the name of it? 'You always meet twice in life'.
After being kicked out of the team, she left the Grand Line as quickly as possible. She just wanted to get away. And then one day it happened: she met Jamie again. He suddenly just stood in front of her out of nowhere, just like when they first met.

~ FLASHBACK ~

The surprise was clearly written on both faces. For a moment neither of them could move, they could only stare at each other. But then Jamie was the first to break free again and he suddenly fell around Nami's neck."Nami, it really is you! I can hardly believe it!" He pulled away from her again to look into her eyes. Nami tried to smile, even if she didn't really succeed. She was kind of happy to see Jamie again, but the wound in her heart was just too fresh, even if it had been 2 months by now.
"Neither do I. How are you?" "Good. And you? I heard you belong to the pirate gang of Monkey D. Luffy, the guy who supposedly took down the crocodile. Is that correct?"
There he was again, one of the names that made her heart tense: Luffy. When this name was mentioned, a shadow fell over her face and she felt the tears well up again. Jamie had noticed this sudden change, of course, and he was immediately worried about her. "What is it? Aren't you okay?"
Nami shook her head, which meant: "Yes, I'm fine.", But even when she tried to suppress them, a few isolated tears found their way down her cheeks."Hey, what's the matter? What happened?" Jamie took her comfortingly in his arms and Nami immediately clung to his T-shirt. The tears flowed more and more and she suddenly felt the urge to tell him everything. She had to get rid of it. Maybe she would finally feel better when she had someone to help her.
And so she began to tell about her first meeting with Luffy, the many adventures they had experienced together and ultimately also about the most terrible day in their life and what their former friends had done to her. There was only one thing she left out: that she and Zorro had loved each other, or rather, that she had loved him. She just wanted to forget about it as soon as possible.
Jamie had been listening attentively and in shock the whole time. He couldn't believe how friends could be so cruel. "I'm sorry. Where are you going now?" "I don't know. Probably back to Kokos." "Come with me." "What? "Nami looked at him in amazement.
"You can stay with me. You're in good hands." "Really? Are you serious?"
Jamie nodded. Nami didn't know what to say. She wiped away her tears and hugged him. For the first time in a long time, a real little smile appeared on her face. "Thanks."
