Chapter: How it all started ...
In the beginning, Apep (Greek: Apophis) - the god of evil and Re (Greek: Ra) - the sun and creator god fought for supremacy in the old world.
But both powers, Apep - that of darkness - and Re - that of light - were almost equally strong and a final victor was not in prospect. To bring about a decision, Apep allied himself with the Titan leader Chronos, who was notorious for his cruelty. Among other things, he killed his own children to avoid a prophesied takeover of power by them.
When these powers - Re and Apep with his allies - faced each other in the decisive battle, the fate of the Old World seemed sealed. With the unexpected support of the old god Atum who interfered in this battle, Re Apep was able to defeat Was´ with the help of the scepter. (Already in the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, Res's power rests on Atum: "I am Atum when I emerge from nothing alone, but I am Re in his shining appearance when I prepare to rule over what I have created. ")But Apep swore vengeance and prophesied his future reign, in which he would destroy the creations of Re and replace them with his own.
Re then went to the great and wise god Amun ("the hidden one"; king of the gods; later god of the kingdom of Egypt), whose oracle is one of the true ones, to ask him about the future of the old world: And in fact Amun prophesied that to the sun god, what he feared most: the battle between light and darkness will repeat itself. However, the horror of the struggle for rule will not be repeated between Re and Apep ...
To prevent a revolt in his own ranks, Re forbade his grandchildren to multiply and thus break the line. Since the gods are immortal, they would not disappear until the end of the universe had come (only other gods can kill their kind - it is next to impossible for humans and the like to do this). The Netjer dynasty under Re would endure forever - even without descendants.Since he knew about the love of his grandchildren, he decided to separate them through his son Schu ("the breath" - god of air). With cunning and patience, Geb (god of the earth) and Nut (goddess of heaven) managed to create a secret union from which Osiris (god of the afterlife, judge of the dead; god of the Nile flood), Isis (goddess of magic and beauty; protector of the dead), Haroer ("the greatest of the gods" - a hero, so to speak; defender of Re; god of war), Seth (god of desert, destructive war and metals; god of emptiness and loneliness; sometimes also god of evil and fire; god of protection of Upper Egypt and court god of the Ramessids; defender of the barque Re's) and Nephthis (protector of the dead). At first only Thoth (god of science and writing, who is said to have great wisdom; scribe of the gods and chief advisor and friend of Re), who helped Nut with the births of the five siblings, knew about it.
But (almost) nothing remains hidden from the sun god and then he discovered the little ones; however, it was unable to punish its descendants who did not obey its orders. An attempt was made to keep the births of the five children a secret from the other gods. How should it be otherwise; they found out about it. Because of the constant quarrels and scuffles among the children, they did not go undetected. Henceforth they were referred to as "troublemakers" or "children of chaos".
With the birth of these children, the city of On (Greek: Heliopolis - city of the sun), in which Re had its headquarters, became the only city in which nine gods were worshiped at once - people used to call this family of gods "Enneade", what as much as "Ninth" means (Re; Tefnut; Shu; Geb; Nut; Osiris; Isis; Seth and Nephthis).
(Actually that should be ten gods under these circumstances, but Haroer is not one of them, since he is killed in mythology and reborn as the son of Isis and Osiris - Horus, but more on that later)
After a few years of peace (with the exception of a few uprisings by the followers of the snake god) Apep had regained his strength and there was talk of another impending danger. But this time it started differently: travelers reported dangers along the waters of the holy Nile. Many fishing boats have not returned and crocodiles are no longer to be found, let alone birds, it said. The fear of an apparently unknown danger spread to the farmers living on the Nile. They moved further inland with their families and threatened to stop working if security was not ensured.
According to several reports, a monster in the form of a giant serpent kite is said to be in the realms of the Nile. There was nothing to indicate that Apep had led the dragon to the Nile. Since the complaints about a threat penetrated into the palace of the Re, the latter decided to take up the matter and sent out mercenaries who were used as guards along the Nile and were supposed to report to him daily what was going on there.
But they too did not know more to report than the travelers.Re should soon experience the danger first hand ...
Senet is one of Re's favorite pastimes. With a good game, it was just easier to discuss matters relating to his empire - his partner in this was none other than Thoth.
"Have you already been able to find out more about the alleged dragon?" Thoth asked when he tried to "checkmate" Re. Re countered.
"The spies I sent couldn't tell me anything more; at least nothing I didn't already know. - Well, old boy; you must have lost ..."
Re was about to make the decisive move when an excited citizen came running into the throne room, shouting and shouting; a guard was already following him, bellowing almost as much. Completely out of breath, he stopped in front of Re and Thoth.
"What's going on today?", Re wanted to know when the guard replied that they couldn't help it, that they had tried to stop him; but he pushed the Medjay aside and just walked past them. The man could only say: "You did it again." bring forth. Judging by his looks, he appeared to have come from a construction site.
Re and Thoth looked at each other. They knew exactly who was meant by "they".
Because apart from a few riots that emanated from frightened citizens for the alleged dragon's sake, peace prevailed in the villages and towns around the Nile (especially since Egypt had a powerful and just king in Re. In anger, however, which happened relatively rarely , but he could also command rather cruel things, which he later mostly regretted).
The thunder of the hooves grew louder, just like the calls of the three charioteers and the citizens who tried again to take cover. But for most of them it was already too late: They were pushed aside with full force, along with their goods that they had bought at the bazaar or their water jugs that they had fetched from wells and were now balanced on their heads. They got up and looked angrily after the car.
"This time I will hit you!", Osiris shouted to his two brothers.
"Ha, maybe in your dreams!", Haroeris and Seth yelled back almost simultaneously.
After a few streets and alleys, the path finally led out of the city. It's not difficult to see where the three have been; they always left a mess. After a small piece of desert, the temple complexes of the Sun Temple appeared in front of them, which were just being renovated. It remains to be mentioned, of course, that no consideration was given to it.
At the entrance there was a colossal statue of Re, which was given a new coat of paint. The man who did this work stood on some sort of ladder. He wanted to trace the serious facial features of the statue and went with his prank tools towards the mouth (or beak; the sun god is a Hieracocephalus after all) of the statue. At this very moment, the three opponents raced past the ladder, with Osiris starting an overtaking maneuver.Neither Seth nor Haroeris could let that go.
Seth cornered Osiris, who unhappily touched the ladder while trying to get back on the track. Haroer simply overtook the two in their battle.
The worker on the ladder staggered, lost his balance, and tossed the brush back and forth. Now a smile adorned the otherwise serious expression on the face of the Re statue.
Now we went through the hypotyl halls, where Seth turned into a wide corridor. In this there were all sorts of reliefs depicting various nets. Osiris caught up and now drove next to Seth, who was driving his car in the direction of Osiris.
"Hey, Osiris! Do you want to be immortalized on the wall?"
"Certainly, it will come at some point!"
"Why not right away?"
Seth pushed Osiris against the wall, damaging a piece of the car that rubbed the wall and broke off.
"Tell me, are you completely stupid !?"
Smirking, Seth turned away and let Osiris back on the track."Well wait, you will regret that!" He shouted.
He gave the horses tinder to make them faster and he passed Seth, who now got a serious expression again.
"Where did Haroeris go?"
As soon as Osiris had said this, his brother came around the corner in front of him.
"Where have you been?"
"Thought I would take a little tour of the temple while I had to wait for you two strollers!"
Osiris turned to Seth: "He must have meant you!"
Before Seth could respond to his eldest brother's comment, they left the temple.
Osiris now steered his car onto the scaffolding that surrounded the temple because of the renovation work. Seth followed him. Haroer preferred to drive under the scaffolding.
The scaffolding was not built for such hardships and so the thundering hooves gave it the rest. Fortunately, the workers had already got to safety, because they too knew that nothing would remain intact when Osiris and his brothers were together."Osiris, you have to go faster", Seth roared, "the scaffolding collapses!"
They saved themselves with a jump on a dune; Haroeris, who had heard Seth's screams, was able to escape the catastrophe just in time.
"Phew, that went well again.", Osiris said and Seth agreed.
But happy too soon: When they wanted to turn around, the dune
