well definitely a lot of fun =)
Chapter 3
Bathed in sweat, Laurie jumped up in the 'bed'. Next to her sat the woman who had saved her and her friend.
She smiled warmly at her patient and pressed her back onto her bed with light pressure.
"Lie there, child!" she said calmly, still smiling.
Laurie let it go without objection and lay down again. She stared at the ceiling and slowly put her hands on her face and slowly felt it.
"Don't worry! I just rubbed your scratches on so they wouldn't catch fire!"
The woman's voice was gentle, but also quite rough. She seemed to be quite old, Laurie estimated to be around 70.
"What happened?" Laurie asked, her voice low and brittle.
"I'll tell you later!" said the woman quietly "I still have something to do!Please wait here until your girlfriend wakes up! "
The gray-haired woman got up and left the small room.
Laurie finally had some time to think and look around.
The room was very small and paneled with wood. In one corner of the room was a small, rather old-looking cupboard, and right next to it was an arch through which the woman had just walked out. She herself was lying on a kind of camp bed, wrapped in an old blanket.
Laurie's gaze fell on the figure to her left. It was Mizuke. She had only minor abrasions, which probably came from the fall, but otherwise she was uninjured.
Mizuke looked like a little kid when she slept, really cute.
Laurie smiled slightly and sat up again.
Only now did her gaze fall on the small, almost tiny window on her right. It was all dark outside, even darker than Laurie had ever remembered.
/ I somehow have the feeling as if it should be light already!/ she thought.
Laurie got up and walked slowly to the window.
She looked out dreamily. It was really too dark outside.
"Funny!" she muttered.
Suddenly she heard a noise behind her and turned around.
"I'm sorry!" said the girl who had just entered the room.
Laurie let out an audible breath. Her nerves were on edge.
"Here! I brought you some new clothes and something to drink!" said the girl.
Her voice was soothing and friendly. She put the new clothes on Laurie's bed, with a few strands of her auburn hair falling over her face, which she brushed back with a deft hand movement.
"I ... is it always that dark here?" Laurie asked with a stutter, but didn't move.
"Did you notice?"
The girl seemed surprised, but Laurie was silent and waited for an answer.
"Well! This is actually the land of the vampires. As you probably know, they die when they come into contact with daylight, so there is no sun here!""Then why are you here?" Laurie asked, visibly surprised.
"Um ..." The girl seemed to hesitate "How should I explain that? Ah ... yes! There are a total of 10 gates from this world into your world, so the human world ..."
"How of this world? Are we no longer on earth?"
Laurie was amazed and scared at the same time.
"No ... so yes! Oh! Okay ... we are still on earth, but no longer in the human world, you understand? We are in a ... like a parallel world!"
Laurie nodded, but she couldn't understand a word.
"As already said, there are 10 gates from this one into your world and vice versa. These gates are actually closed all the time, but so that the vampires don't open them and cause unrest in your world, there is always a village with guards near these gates. Of course it happens again and again that some vampires succeed after all. After all, we are not gods! " explained the girl.
"But ... what do the vampires get out of it?" Laurie asked blankly."They suck blood, as you probably know! Mostly human blood! We here can take good care of ourselves! The vampires don't bite us that quickly! That's why they come into your world!"
"What if you don't manage to get into our world?"
"There are animals here too, that's no problem for them!"
"I always thought there were no vampires!" Laurie confessed and finally sat down on the bed.
That was just too much. Mizuke's family was dead, her parents probably too, and she no longer had a home. And now this.
Laurie felt as if her head was about to burst. It wasn't all true.
"Well!"
The girl smiled.
"We try everything to keep the vampires out of your world so that people don't panic because that's what the vampires are trying to do!"
Laurie propped her head on her hands.
"Everything OK?" the girl asked worriedly.
"My head just hurts a little!"
"Don't worry, it comes from the ointment, but it helps!Better lie down, otherwise they will get worse! "Said the girl.
Laurie gladly complied and lay back down again.
"Say! What's your name?" Laurie asked and closed her eyes.
"My name is Kazuka! And yours?"
"Laurie!"
Laurie didn't notice how Kazuka smiled at her again, because by then she was sunk again in the land of dreams.
"Hey! Hey Laurie!" she heard a voice from far away.
Laurie opened her eyes wearily and looked into Mizuke's purple eyes. She slowly sat up and looked overjoyed at her friend.
"Mizu-chan!" she exclaimed happily and fell on her friend's neck.
"Laurie! I'm happy to see you too, but where are we here?" asked the other and looked around questioningly.
Laurie quickly let her friend know, but that didn't really calm her down.
"Laurie, I want to get out of here!" whimpered Mizuke.
"Mizu-chan! Take it easy! Nothing will happen to us!" Laurie promised and took Mizuke in her arms. She rocked back and forth reassuringly. Mizuke's breathing slowly returned to normal.
"Thank you Laurie!" sighed Mizuke.
"No problem!" Laurie said and let go of her friend again.
"Still don't want to stay here ... what if those vampires show up again!"
"Don't worry! These women saved us this girl, Kazuka, she said we were here in one of their villages! It won't happen to us! And if we do, I'll protect you!" Laurie promised her friend and gave her an encouraging smile.
Mizuke nodded and forced a smile. Those words felt good, they really helped her.
"If you say that!" she said "Then I'll believe you!"
Soon after, Laurie got up and opened the closet. There she found the same clothes the girl had been wearing and took them out.
"Maybe we should wear something else!" she noticed and took the things out.
Mizuke looked down at himself. She was amazed to see that her normal clothing had tears and holes."We seem to have gotten more than we thought!" she said, visibly amazed.
Laurie nodded wordlessly and gave her the clothes and finally got dressed.
"I feel a little stupid in these clothes!" she growled when she finally put on the ultra-short kimono.
Annoyed, she fumbled with the lower edge of the kimono, which didn't even reach below her knees.
"Why do I think you look very pretty!" Mizuke smiled.
"Oh! I don't want to look pretty!" Laurie said with a sigh.
Mizuke grinned even wider when she saw that Laurie was desperately trying to get her kimono longer.
"Better leave it! Otherwise she'll break it!" suddenly came a voice.
Laurie glanced over her shoulder at the door. Kazuka stood there. She too wore a kimono, albeit a little longer.
"Why are you two so long! Why do I always have to wear the short one?" Laurie asked, still tugging at the lower edge."Well! We had two different ones ready for you. You probably got the short straw!" laughed Kazuka.
"Seems so! As usual!" grinned Mizuke.
"Hey did you guys conspire against me?" Laurie asked, pretending to be angry.
"What makes you think that?" the two asked with a grin.
"Kazuka! Come here quickly!" suddenly called a voice from outside.
"Moment!" Kazuka called and then turned to Laurie and Mizuke "Come with me!"
The two followed their new friend uncertainly out.
"What's your name anyway?" Kazuka asked, turning to Mizuke, while she guided the two of them outside.
"I ... my name is Mizuke!" said the eponymous rather quietly.
"What's going on out there?" Laurie asked when screams reached her ear from outside.
"Wait here!" ordered Kazuka and hurried ahead.
"Wait! We're definitely not staying here!" Laurie yelled and ran after Kazuka with Mizuke in tow.
Kazuka apparently didn't have time to contradict and so she let the two of them come along.Once outside, all three stopped dead in their tracks.
"Oh my God!" Mizuke gasped, eyes wide.
What was happening there in front of her eyes was more than unbelievable. At least 50 or 60 vampires had invaded the guardian village.
Human corpses were strewn on the floor and there was even blood on the walls. However, there was no trace of the vampires.
"Mummy!" Kazuka called and ran to the woman who had saved Laurie and Mizuke earlier.
However, the two friends stayed where they were. Kazuka, on the other hand, healed to her mother, who was lying on the ground. There were a few pools of blood around them and she herself lay there motionless.
Her daughter fell to her knees beside her and put her head on her knees. Kazuka sobbed softly. Her hair fell into her face, so that her eyes could no longer be seen and so also not how the tears found their way down her cheeks.
"Kazuka!" Laurie muttered softly and pityingly.
Mizuke also felt with her new friend, who was there on the ground when she witnessed her mother's last breaths."Ka ... zuka!" breathed her mother.
"Mummy?"
Kazuka looked into her mother's eyes, which looked glazed.
"Watch out!" she croaked softly "And take good care of the two girls ... the vampires ... just want them and ... be careful ..."
Her voice cracked and her help-seeking eyes glazed over and seemed to look through Kazuka.
"Mummy?" Kazuka asked, almost begging that she was still alive.
The old woman's breath slowly ebbed, and finally her head fell lifeless to one side.
"No! No! Please not!" Kazuka shouted desperately and tried to shake her mother awake.
"Stop it! Open your eyes again!"
Kazuka
