Chapter: Mother daughter love
I gave this story to my parents for Mother's / Father's Day. Maybe a little cheesy, but since my mother likes something like that, I just put it that way. But now I wanted to know what other people think about the story, and last but not least about my writing style. So please write me comments!
The moving van drove up slowly and stopped in front of the neighboring entrance. Two movers got out and opened the tailgate of the truck. Then they unloaded him and carried sofas, chairs, beds, tables and an endless number of boxes into the house. Nobody came out of this to help them and when everything was unpacked, the movers left without anyone showing up.
Shaking her head, Liz pulled the curtain back into shape. It had been going on for a week or more. Ever since a buyer was finally found for the house, there were always workers, but never anyone who could be the new owner of the house.Allegedly it was a young man who wanted to move here with his wife and young daughter. The small, cozy house with a large garden was almost perfect for this. It was just as beautiful a family house as the one she had lived in with her husband and daughter when everything was still in order.
Sighing, Liz sat down in an armchair and looked at the many photographs from a beautiful time, which were still hanging neatly framed on the wall. In addition to the portraits of the many family members and the wedding photo of her husband Thomas and her there was also a photo. On this a laughing young woman was depicted, who was carrying a curly blond toddler in her arms and was being lovingly embraced by a man. This photo had always been one of Liz's all-time favorites, but now it gave her a painful sting. They had been so happy, she and her husband Thomas, when little Sophia saw the light of day.She was her first and only child and she and Thomas wanted to give Sophia everything they had - in her opinion - done. Well cared for, she had grown from a cute baby, into a dreamy girl, and then into a teenager with a mind of her own. And this teenager had met David one day in a discotheque.
From then on, the house blessing had gone wrong again and again, because Thomas and Liz, but especially Liz, hadn't wanted to see that Sophia and David also shared what they had felt for Thomas, true and infinite love. When she found out that David was the illegitimate son of a nightclub owner, she had blown her collar.
'He's not the right company for you, Sophia, darling! He doesn't fit into your world! He's not good enough for you !!! '
That was the last thing she said to her beloved daughter. She ran into her room in a rage, locked herself in, packed up all her things and ran away.Just like that, without any word of farewell. All she left behind was a quick and uncleanly scribbled message: I don't need you to live my own life happily!
That single sentence had caused the deepest pain she had ever felt, but her own arrogance had forbidden her to show it. Vanity, which she could not understand in the slightest now, had made her, and probably Thomas too, never look for their only child. Liz remembered the day after Sophia's disappearance very clearly. That day she had a visit from her sister Miriam. Miriam was horrified when she heard what had happened.
"Don't you want to look for Sophia? My God, Liz, she's still a child! How can you just leave her alone now ?!"
A child, yes she really was still at 18 years of age. Of legal age, but still full of the fantasies and dreams of a 10-year-old.But Liz had realized that much too late. On that day she had just shrugged her shoulders, smiled and said: "If she absolutely wants to agree with the delusion that she can be happy with David, then she should try to get by in real life. She will quickly find out that David is not who is right for him and just doesn't fit into her life! "
Miriam had tried for hours to make her understand that what she was doing was wrong, but Liz was not deterred. She had been convinced that Sophia would soon be standing humbly at the door again. She had firmly believed that it would be good for Sophia to marry a man who also comes from a similarly wealthy family as her. She'd also judged David by what she'd heard about him. She had never met him personally, had not exchanged a single word with him. She assumed she was right.
But Sophia had never shown up, had only reported once after she disappeared, only to be hurt again by her mother's vanity, and today Liz had long since given up hope of seeing her child again. She had realized that she had made mistakes, unforgivable mistakes, but still she had never imagined ever seriously looking for Sophia. The fear of whatever had been too great.
The next morning Liz was awakened by the rays of the sun and the chirping of birds. She got up slowly and went into the kitchen to have breakfast. The morning paper was already on the table because Thomas always scanned it before going to work. Liz opened it slowly when she suddenly heard a loud rumble from outside. Startled, she ran to the window and looked out.
She immediately recognized the reason for the rumble: the ladder, which always leaned against her little garden shed, had tipped over and fell on the cobblestones. A small child, not even two years old, sat next to the ladder and began to cry bitterly.
Liz quickly threw on her dressing gown and hurried over to the little child to see if it had injured itself. When she got to the garden shed, she saw that the child was a girl with auburn curly hair and sky-blue eyes that looked strangely familiar.
Liz bent down to the little one and was about to pick her up to comfort her when a young man came up to her and called: "Luise! What kind of things are you doing! You should stay in the garden."
He was probably the little ones' father. In any case, he had exactly the same hair color as the girl, whom he was now carefully poking around, checked whether she had injured herself, then calmed her down and then turned to Liz: "I am very sorry that Luise was her ladder knocked over, but I only let her out of sight for a moment and she was gone ...
He looked at her apologetically, but Liz just waved her off with a smile: "Oh, what, the only thing that matters is that she didn't hurt herself!"
As little Luise had calmed down again and was now looking around curiously with wide eyes, the young man put her down again and put the ladder back to the garden shed. With a "I apologize again!" and with a friendly smile he took the child by the hand and disappeared with him out of the garden. Liz watched in astonishment as the two disappeared into the driveway of the neighboring house. So those were the mysterious neighbors. They looked really nice! Was there a woman in the house too?
Liz knew that she was just too curious, but she couldn't help it and so she kept looking out the window at the neighboring house during the day, but couldn't see anything. She was a little surprised what the neighbors were doing all day without being seen.
Thomas got back from work pretty early today. After putting down his briefcase, taking off his shoes and taking off his jacket, he went to see Liz, who was preparing dinner.
"Hello darling!", He greeted her with a quick kiss on the cheek, "Have you already met your new neighbors? I just met a young man with a little girl.I think her name was Luise. The two were really friendly. "
Liz nodded: "Yes, I've already met both of them. The little one knocked over the ladder on the garden shed. I'm still wondering how she managed it!"
Suddenly Thomas made a serious and also slightly sad expression.
"What's going on?", Liz looked at him worried.
"Oh, you know ...", Thomas hesitated, "the eyes of the little ones looked exactly like those of our Sophia! They had the same beautiful glow!"
The realization flashed through Liz like lightning. Naturally! She had already noticed that her eyes looked strangely familiar, she just had never thought of Sophia!
Should she have moved into the house next door?
Liz shook her head sadly. That would be just too good to be true. Sophia would never even move near her again! She just had to accept that!
'Ding dong'
"I'm coming!", Liz quickly opened the door, "oh, good afternoon!"
The young man, who was apparently her new neighbor, stood in front of the door smiling: "Um hello! We've met a few times now, but haven't really gotten to know each other, and then my wife and I thought we could invite you over for a coffee. Would you be fine this afternoon, Mrs. McEdwards? "
"Yes, that fits very well. My husband is free today and ...", Liz was a little confused. How did the young man know her name?
Then she noticed that she didn't even know his, but before she could ask about it, the young man said: "That's lovely. ... Oh yes, I don't think I have even introduced myself to you: I am David. See you this afternoon then! "
With that he turned and left. Liz leaned against the door frame, exhausted. David! David, the new neighbor! David, the illegitimate son of a nightclub owner! David, your daughter's great love!
The hope that Sophia actually lived next door came over her more and more often, but again and again she suppressed this hope and stamped it as a pure pipe dream.Later that afternoon, Liz and Thomas stood quite nervously in front of the door of the neighboring house with a small present. Of course, Liz had told her husband that the man had introduced himself as David, and Thomas had been as excited as she was.
After a few moments the door was opened by David and he kindly invited her in.
"The living room is right over there. Make yourself at home and have a seat. We'll be right over there."
Hesitantly, Liz and Thomas sat down on a sofa in the living room. Liz looked around attentively and suddenly she clutched Thomas' arm so tightly that he said, "Liz!" and looked at her indignantly: "What is it ?!"
With trembling fingers, Liz pointed to a photo on the
