The first night

None. I (Shinichi Kudo) lie awake in my bed thinking about the last night. Ran lies next to me ...

Yesterday we were at a masked ball, that means at first only Ran was there, together with Kazuha, Heiji, the Detective Boys, Shiho (Ai), Kaito, Aoko and our parents. I was still in the hospital and the doctors just wouldn't allow me to get up. They were of the opinion that I was still too unstable because the bullet had just been extracted in a long operation with an uncertain outcome. Heiji and I had chased the men in black, but they had smelled a match and kidnapped Ran and Kazuha as a precaution. Then I was shot during the rescue operation. Inspector Megure (it took him 25 minutes to respond to Prof. Agasa's call and another 15 to finally be at the abandoned temple - what was he doing for so long!) Immediately called an ambulance, but it was still not safe if I would survive.Also, even if I didn't die, there was a risk that I would never wake up from the coma. Ran reproached himself and didn't want to leave the edge of my bed at all, but Heiji was able to persuade her to come along with the help of my mother.

Well, the party was already in full swing when Heiji came into my room, threw me a 'Masked Cavalier' costume and smuggled me out of the hospital. We entered the huge hall and saw colorful people dancing and talking and in the middle of it, of course, Kogoro Mori again, who adorned himself with my laurels! Not far from him stood Ran and it seemed that she enjoyed the party less than he did. Even Eri (Ran's mother) and my parents were there and had fun, but Ran just stood there sad and looked at the floor.

"You should go to her. She's terribly worried about you," Heiji whispered in my ear. "She doesn't know that I went to get you."So I went to Ran and asked her to do this dance (a waltz). She reluctantly accepted my invitation. We only danced for a few minutes, then ...

"Sorry, but I can't keep dancing, I have to go. Someone is waiting for me."

"I know," I replied, "for a long time."

Then I took her in my arms and held her tightly as if I would never let go of her.

"Shinichi?" Asked Ran.

"Yes it's me."

"You woke up! You really woke up again! I thought you would never come to you again. I was so afraid for you. But why aren't you in the hospital!"

I kept hugging her. It was a nice feeling.

"Heiji got me out of here and brought me here and you won't be able to get me to go back either. Not until I've done something important. I've waited a long time for this day. The case with the men in black held me up for ages, but now it is resolved and I can take care of more important things.Ran, I have something to tell you, but I don't know how. "

She lay motionless in my arms and listened eagerly to my words.

"Ran, what I'm going to tell you is ... I, um, ... I love you more than anything else in the world," as I spoke these words, I looked over her shoulder at the floor, embarrassed.

She was silent for a while, then she said:

“Oh, Shinichi, I love you too.” And finally she returned my hug.

Ran pulled away from me shortly afterwards, looked into my eyes for a moment and finally kissed me. A gesture I was only too happy to return.

We stood in the middle of the room, but apart from our friends, who had to hold Uncle Kogoro so he wouldn't attack me, no one seemed to have noticed what was happening. Ayumi, Genta and Mitsuhiko eventually knocked Uncle Kogoro down with an empty bowl.

Then Heiji was able to make his confession to Kazuha and our friends again had to prevent Mr. Toyama and Mr. Hattori from violently tearing each other's child away from their own (since the bowl was broken, Genta clung to one father, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko on the others to make it difficult for them to walk while the rest of the rest of the group braced or pulled on them(I would still be interested in what happened to Kaito and Aoko, the two of them basically had the same relationship as Ran and me. Whether they got together?).

When Toyama, Hattori and Mori, who was now bright and cheerful again, were distracted (which didn’t make things easier) by their wives, who didn’t seem to mind their children's affairs, and by my two parents, we snuck away. We went to my house because I had offered Heiji and Kazuha to stay with me as long as they would stay in Tokyo. The two said they were dead tired and went to sleep immediately (well, who knows if they had something completely different in mind). Anyway, I wanted to go home with Ran, but we both couldn't really convince ourselves of that. We still had so much to do um ... tell. So this plan fell through.

Well, and so it happened that I now lie here and think about last night."Already awake? What time is it?", Ran asked next to me in a soft voice. She woke up.

"Go back to sleep. It's still early. Just 8 o'clock."

Heiji's voice comes up from below: "Hey, you sleepyheads, breakfast is ready!"

"Come down, get some food! Coffee is there too!" Kazuha calls afterwards.

So we get dressed and go down to our friends for breakfast.

All in all, yesterday was a successful day. Ran and I are finally together, Heiji and Kazuha too and they stay in Tokyo for a while.

The only downside: Ran knows I was Conan ... but I don't think that will damage our relationship after that night.
