Third chapter:
Outside the walls
At some point she woke up and heard a voice calling her name.
"Am I dead, am I in heaven?"
She opened her eyes and sat up. Jáy knelt beside her. Apparently he tried to revive her and pumped the water out of her.
"Jáy, where are we? Weren't we in the lake?"
"Yes, but we came back into a portal that was in the hole where the diamond was."
"Are we still in the garden?"
"No, I think we are on the other side of the cliff".
"Have we been discovered by the other beings yet?"
Jáy replied: "I don't think so, because most of them are hostile and would have attacked us long ago."
"Mhhm ..." she said thoughtfully. "Hey!Where is the diamond actually? "
She looked around and looked for him in her pockets. There he was!
She pulled it out and looked at it. Then she said, "He's beautiful, but what's up with him?"
"Maybe I can answer that question for you".
She startled and they looked around.
"What was that? Who's there?"
Suddenly a man came out from behind a tree and walked towards her. He was tall and slim, about 20 years old, with lank, disheveled hair and worn clothes.
"Who are you? What do you want? Can you really tell us what this diamond is about?" Jessica asked excitedly.
The man replied, "Yes, I know what kind of diamond that is. This diamond is one of the
´7 Dragon Spirit Crystals´. He has a great deal of spiritual power; so he's very powerful. "
"What is this man saying? The diamond has 'magic powers' so to speak? He doesn't mean that seriously, is he?"
"I know exactly what you mean," Jáy whispered in her ear."And where are the other six diamonds?" Jess finally asked.
"They are hidden somewhere in this world, but I think they will not be old too far apart because they have something like a connection to each other. You can use this diamond to track down the others".
"And why should we do that? What use is that?" Jáy asked in between.
"Well, with the help of all seven crystals you can, or rather you", he pointed to Jessica, "awaken your inner Taiya, your 'animal spirit'; with it you can create a portal with which you can come back to earth have waited so long for you, the chosen one and your companion, to come. You must know, the time here goes by very, very slowly. I am now probably several hundred earth years old, but I am now only 26. But be warned if you go on a journey to collect all the diamonds, it will not be easy! There are countless dangers in this world and if you are not careful you could die! "He turned and wanted to go. Then he said: "Oh yes, if you ever need help, use your Taiya, Jessica. You will know what to do."
He reached into his pocket, took something out, threw it on the floor and dissolved in a cloud of gray smoke.
They stood there in disbelief. Jessica couldn't think clearly.
"What did this man say? Something about a chosen one? An animal spirit?"
"Jáy, do you think what the man said is true? It all sounds very strange, but we are also in a strange world. What do you think: Should we look for the remaining six diamonds. If we can find them have found, if this man has not lied to us, we can go back to our world; to earth ".
"I don't know ... yes, we should try it! I definitely believe that at some point you will also master a skill; I have learned something too.
But first we should get a camp herebuild up for the night because when we
to start now it will be dark when we have hiked a bit and then we have to look for a place to stay somewhere ".
While Jáy was trying to make a fire with some dry wood he had found, Jessica went in search of fruits, mushrooms or a river where she could catch fish.
After about half an hour she came back with a few mushrooms, fruits and berries. Jáy was sitting by the fire and roasting a bird.
"Look what I caught, Jess!" He called to her.
"I also collected some nuts, berries, fruits and mushrooms!" She replied.
Meanwhile, the two got along better and better - and still Jessica was afraid of Jáy, since he had spoken again about his gift, which she had almost forgotten again.
But now she was more interested in what the man had said. If Jáy had learned something, she might soon be able to do something too; or did he mean that she could already do something?Did she just have to learn to use or be able to use this animal spirit? More and more questions flew through her head. What if she didn't have that animal spirit or couldn't use it? What if they couldn't find the remaining diamonds? What if she failed, when she died? Would Jáy and all the other people who were here from Earth be trapped forever? Was she the only one who had such an animal spirit?
Finally she sat down and continued thinking.
"What is it actually; an animal spirit? What does it look like; or rather, what does mine look like?"
Her thoughts were broken by high-pitched screeching noises. She covered her ears and searched the area for the source of this noise. She concentrated on trying to figure out where the noise was coming from, closed her eyes, stopped covering her ears and started walking. Without knowing where her legs were leading, she ran on. She didn't know what she was doing, but a new force in her drove her legs. She ran faster and further. The screeching grew louder and louder, until it turned into what sounded like something was scratching. She opened her eyes to see where she was going, but suddenly she was standing in front of an abyss and her strength, her drive, gave way. Instead, she felt something else inside: fear. Great fear. It was a completely different feeling that quickly spread through her body and that other feeling abruptly suppressed. She was only half a hand's length from the abyss. She couldn't see how deep it went; it was so deep that she only saw black.
Carefully she backed up with small steps. She couldn't see far over the cliff than it happened: the ground broke beneath her feet. Part of the rock fell and Jessica fell with it. She tried to hold on to the cliff. Her fingers touched the cold stone and they tried to stop somewhere and clawed their fingers convulsively into the rock, but they slipped.Jessica's body hit the rock face with full force and scraped down on her. Jessica tried to hold on to something, but fell further. It seemed to be falling in slow motion. It seemed to her that she was going to fall right down into the darkness, but suddenly she slammed hard on a ledge and lay motionless.
