The Sand of Time
Letters from past
The sun was beating down from the sky. An almost unbearable heat wave lay over the city of Cairo and made everyday life a torture for the residents of the capital.
Not far from the staft, already in the desert, stood a black Cheep in the shade of a lonely palm tree. Two people wrapped up in masking clothing were near the car, deep in conversation. One of the two, obviously a middle-aged man, had two wooden boxes in his hand that appeared to be well sealed. The other, a woman, almost certainly Egyptian, looked up at the sky. "We have to send you to Japan as soon as possible," she muttered through her face mask. The man nodded, whereupon the strange couple got into the Cheep and sped off in the direction of Cairo.
"Stop Anubis .. that tickles ..", giggled the black-haired girl and pushed her beige Siamese cat down from her. She wiped her face with her sleeve and slowly sat up.Sighing, she realized that she hadn't done any of her schoolwork and trotted to the desk in resignation. The black-haired girl dropped onto the swivel chair like a sack of potatoes and took her notepad out of her school bag. Disinterested, she began to solve some bills and put her head on her hand. She was startled out of her trance when suddenly there was a knock on the door. "Yumi! I brought you cocoa and cake .." came from the door, in which a brown-haired woman was standing with a tray in her hand. "Thank you Mum!" Said the named gratefully and grabbed the tray. As soon as she sat down on her soft bed, the cat pranced elegantly between her legs, purring softly. The black-haired girl with the strange dark complexion chewed on her cake calmly, so she could hardly have guessed that something was on the way to her that would change her whole life.
Smiling, the brown-haired woman covered her daughter, who, as so often, had fallen asleep while reading. She took the book from her hand and put it on the table. The Siamese had curled up in the girl's leg-pit and was sleeping too. "You two are already some for me ..", she grinned and turned off the light.
When Yumi woke up again, she looked relieved at the animal calendar that hung across from her bed. "Sunday! Class! That means no Anubis school today!" She exclaimed happily and slipped into her slippers. She left the room and went down the stairs to the kitchen, where her parents were already sitting and having breakfast. Her first walk led the black-haired woman to a small box that contained the cat food. "Here you have my pretty one.", She whispered and put the food in front of the already mewing cat. "You are really inseparable .. my daughter and the cats ..", the father stated, shaking his head. When Yumi sat down at the table, there was a small envelope on the table, which was attached to a wooden box and had her name on it."For me?", She stated, somewhat surprised, as she hadn't expected the mail. "Came today," replied her mother, who was busy making new coffee. First the girl opened the envelope, so she was very interested in who might send something to her. What emerged was a somewhat worn-out letter, written in black ink in a squiggly, even fine-looking font.
My dear daughter
You may be wondering why we are writing you this letter now, after so long. Please don't be mad at us, we have always loved you, even if you may not believe it. If you get this letter, we will no longer be alive. For a long time we have been on the trail of a great cause that seemed more dangerous than we thought possible. In the course of our excavations, two special pieces of Egyptian high culture fell into our hands. A bangle and a headband.Lots of people seem to be after them, so it seemed best to us to get them out of long.
Please do not wonder why we are writing to you after all these years, you will understand, we are sure of that. With our letter you also received a small box containing the aforementioned bracelet. We know he's best taken care of with you, so guard him like treasure.
Since we are divorced from the world of the living, it is time to tell you that you have an older sister. She has also received a letter and is already in Tokyo, where our old house is. We want you to meet her because she also received one of the items from us. There is an ancient secret in these objects that must now be solved.
You are meant for something higher, find your past.
In love
Mum and Dad
Yumi's food got stuck in her throat. All of a sudden she turned pale and her hands were trembling.Shocked at her reaction, her father pulled the letter from her hand and read it out loud so that her mother could hear it too. "That is ..", but the father didn't get any further, because Yumi had already opened the box. In it, embedded in straw and wrapped in a silk scarf, lay a gold bracelet with a Horus eye in the middle. Suddenly the girl felt completely different and she felt a strange familiarity with the ancient artifact. Sighing heavily and laying a hand on her husband's shoulder, the woman looked at her adopted daughter. "We knew it would come to this one day. Your parents were always good friends of ours, but we haven't heard from them in the last five years. Please forgive us for not telling you earlier that we know your real parents .. We had to promise them to keep it a secret and to take care of you .. please understand .. "
Yumi came to tears."You are my real parents! I don't want to know anything about these people!" She shouted annoyed and put the item back on the table. Now her father spoke up. "Listen, Yumi. I know this all comes very suddenly for you, but your birth parents always knew what to do. You should travel to Tokyo to meet your sister." Reluctantly, the girl agreed and swallowed hers Sadness down. "It's best to pack some clothes. I'll make you some cookies so you don't miss your home too quickly." Joked the brown-haired woman. "But Anubis is coming with me! I won't travel without him!", Yumi interjected.
So it happened and two days later she found herself in the capital of Japan.
"I'm coming on!" The 19-year-old, brown-haired, Yori called to her friends. All she had to do was quickly rummage through her things, toss everything in her school bag and run down the stairs to the school yard. 2 classmates were waiting for her there.Together they made their way home. When they arrived at an intersection, Yori said goodbye and wished the other two a nice weekend. Then she turned right and entered the building in which her apartment was located. She only opened the mailbox briefly and took out the mail, including a package. Then she took the elevator up to the 5th floor, and once there she disappeared immediately into her apartment, because she had discovered the sender of her parents on one of the letters. Of course she was surprised what her parents wrote to her. She opened the letter that said:
Dear Yori
We hope that you are doing well in Kyoto and that you make progress with your studies. In the package you received there is a headband that we found during our excavations in Egypt. We sent it to you because we know that you will take very good care of this one. Since it is unfortunately no longer possible for us to see you, we wanted to inform you that you have a younger sister and we ask you to come back to our old house in Tokyo with this item.Because there is an ancient secret in this object that must now be solved. You are meant for something higher, find your past.
In love
Mum and Dad
Yori was visibly confused about the letter, what nonsense her parents are saying about she was meant for something higher and this object would be the key to her past.
She gently opened the package and took out the well-wrapped item. She took a closer look at the headband, on which there was a Horus eye in the middle. She didn't understand what her parents were saying, but anyway, she packed a suitcase and made her way to the airport. A few hours later she finally arrived in Tokyo. There she took the subway and drove to her parents' house. When she got there she was alone. She just sighed softly and put her suitcase in her old room and put the headband on the desk and threw herself on the bed. She lay pensively on the bed and stared at the ceiling, what should this item be about and who is her younger sister and why she had to come here?
