[ Friendship Never Dies ]
Three
Daisy and Raven stared at Carina with big eyes.
"You are ... the only one of us who comes into this house!" said Raven.
Carina looked around confused. That just could not be the case! She was the only one who came into this house ?! She was sad inside and made her cry when she realized that she would rarely see her friends.
"Let's ... put our things in our rooms," Dennis said, turning away.
"See you then," said Carina and then left, slowly and somehow broken. The other girls watched her go. Just as sad and just as confused.
Carina walked quickly through the hall, but still noticed that Kenji was looking at her. Noticeable and grinning. She went on anyway. It confused her. She seemed to be the only woman in this house. She could only make men out. Confused by the last few hours, she tried to find her room as quickly as possible. It was number 97. She came down one of the corridors that was much darker than those in the other houses. In itself everything was much blacker and sadder. Carina unlocked the door and went into the room. Her room colleague, Patrick, didn't seem to be there, so she just stepped in and began to organize the things that were carried up for her. The guys were older and Kenji had been with them too. It didn't take Carina very long to sit down on her bed and just take a rest.
The room consisted of two rooms and a spacious bathroom. The school itself was very luxurious, but strangely enough, not expensive. She and Patrick each had their own room. Small but okay. A bed, a large wardrobe, a mini fridge, a desk, a bedside table and a spacious window sill, with pillows and a blanket to sit comfortably on in the evening. Patrick's room didn't have this. Maybe it was because she was a girl and he wouldn't have been interested in that window sill anyway. For Carina, she came right on call. Still, she decided to take a bath first, then she would call the number.
It was late afternoon when Carina made her way to room 100, where her mentor lived. She didn't really feel like going to him, but it was an express order from the Rector. When Carina knocked on the door to room 100 at 10:00 p.m., it was already open. The young woman waited a moment and then entered the room. Cold shot towards her and covered her skin. She shivered.
"Hello?!" she called softly.
It was pretty dark. She looked around and all of a sudden, a lot slamming the door shut. Carina turned and saw Kenji leaning against the wall next to the door.
“Good evening.” He smiled. "For the 2nd time…"
"YOU?!"
"Yes, of course." Kenji grinned. "I am your mentor."
"Do I have to walk around like you do?" she looked at his black clothes and the black cloak.
Kenji laughed.
"Certainly not. The rector says I should explain everything to you ..."
"Can't someone else do that?"
"Negative, why? Don't you like me?" he asked with a grin.
"Not really."
"What do you think about these loosers, Carina? Third rate and ..."
She didn't let him finish, but grabbed his sweater by the chest.
"Be careful what you say!" she said icily. "NOBODY, offend my friends!"
"Friends? Those 3rd class racing drivers, Hannes and Dennis, the cute three school girls and the nurse?" Kenji had to keep from laughing.
Carina's eyes darkened.
"Shut up you psycho!" she said still coldly.
He felt the tremor, the anger, boiling and seething in her body.
Kenji gently took her wrist and Carina's gaze changed to confusion for a split second, then jerked her around and pressed her against the wall, next to the window. The light shone on his tense features as he slowly squeezed his hand around her neck.Carina couldn't breathe. Her eyes stared at him. She was afraid. More than ever.
"You're messing with the wrong man, Carina. And if you don't already know, I'll beat you up ..."
She closed her eyes and tried desperately to get away. Kenji was only slowly releasing his grip. In the end she gasped for breath. Her legs buckled from under her and she tried to hold on tight. She got hold of Kenji's sweater and stood on her feet. He still stood firm and did not allow himself to be disturbed. He grabbed the hand that desperately clung to him and pulled Carina to the ground with an unbelievable force. When Carina got some air again, she tried to straighten up, but slumped back down again. She managed to lift her head and look at Kenji. Expressionless, he looked down at her. His eyes pierced her and you could think that they would like to tear her apart.
Kenji leaned down to her, which Carina hadn't suspected, and held out his hand to her.
"Will you obey now?" he asked gently and there was even a smile on his lips. Carina got to her feet without taking his hand, stumbled and leaned against the wall behind her. Kenji, too, had straightened up again and took the last step that had been between him and her. Carina looked into his eyes and he looked back.
He raised his hand, paused just before her neck and then placed it barely noticeably on her shoulder.
"Do you want to obey or do you want to die?"
Carina looked at him confused.
"You don't want to end up like Hannes almost at the race? And you don't want anything to happen to your oh-so-great friends, do you?"
Carina shook her head when she noticed how Kenji's monotonous voice decreased and he got louder and louder. Kenji grinned.
"I'll make sure that Hannes and Dennis won't be so lucky next time ... And the others, maybe have a little accident ...""Please leave her alone!" a tear flowed down Carina's cheek.
Kenji's grin disappeared. Now he was smiling.
"Good ... close your eyes!"
Carina did as he said and closed her eyes. Would he kill her?
Hours later, she would have wished it had been.
Carina only knew that he bit her neck. That the pain spread all over her body and seemed to eat her up from the inside. She still knew that she must have screamed very loudly, she must also have fought.
When she was clear in her head again, Kenji was gone and she was lying on her bed. Alone. And with two unmistakable bite wounds on the neck ...
Carina stood in the bathroom and repeatedly washed the bites off with water. No. No. No. It was all a nightmare, it couldn't be reality.
"Please! Wake up, wake up!" she mumbled in panic and slapped the cold water on her face again. Her eyes were so dark that they could almost be described as black and her body hurt. It seemed to be growing. Slowly, but the pain increased. Carina looked up. In the mirror she could see Kenji standing at the door. He was leaning against the frame, his eyes half closed and a slight smile on his face. His white hair hung only in thin strands in his face and Carina could see the beads of sweat on his forehead.
"Kenji ...?" she whispered. "What did you do to me? What did you do to me ?!"
She walked over to him slowly, tears in her eyes.
"When do I wake up? When do I wake up?"
Kenji weakly raised a hand and stroked her head briefly. With a dry throat he said:
"No way."
Carina looked at him with tired and desperate eyes.
"Come with me ..." he said softly and pushed away from the frame, swaying.
Carina followed him, what else could she do? Kenji went into the part of Carina's room, locked the door on Patrick and lay down on the bed."Come to me ..." he said, still very weak.
Carina did what he wanted. Kenji seemed infinitely tired. He snuggled up against her body and fell asleep immediately. Confused, Carina noticed how in seconds all the pain disappeared and the tiredness overwhelmed her ...
"It's best not to leave the house for now. You should rest ..." Kenji put on his coat.
Carina was sitting on the bed, still confused, and looked up at the tall guy questioningly. Kenji stopped in mid-motion and looked at her. She looked back.
"I won't leave you alone now ..." He put his coat on completely and sat down with her for a moment. "Just rest a little, then you can go back outside soon. When your body has completely changed, you will be able to go out during the day too. That only takes one or two days. Lie down again and try to sleep. Me I'll be back soon and then stay with you ... "he smiled weakly.
Carina looked at him that he was still very weak himself, but no longer life-threatening. She wasn't feeling much better herself ...
When Kenji disappeared out the door, Carina only really realized what he had done to her ...
It was stormy and cold. A few dark clouds had moved in front of the full moon. The last leaves were torn from the trees and many fell into the courtyard. Carina looked at the chestnut tree. She had found out that if you went up to the attic from Kenji's room, you could reach the roof directly. She stood on the flat roof, next to the tallest tower and looked up at the sky. Her headband had already come off when she came up here. The wind tousled her hair, but she didn't notice as she looked down into the courtyard where a couple of teenagers were passing by. Carina recognized her friends. She took a step forward to the edge of the roof and looked down at them. They pelted each other with leaves and laughed.Carina felt how happy they were, even without them. She had to smile. They must have survived it well. Carina had to grin when Dennis threw himself on the floor with Daisy and both of them lay there laughing. Carina looked up at the moon and smiled.
When Daisy looked up, her breath caught for a few seconds.
"So what's going on?" Dennis asked next to her and followed Daisy's gaze upstairs. The others also looked up to see what the two of them saw. Hannes gaze rose last. He saw Carina, with Kenji's long coat and loose, much longer hair than she had before. Her gaze was still up, directed to the full moon.
"What happened?" Raven whispered. "What happened to her?"
Hannes turned around and went back to the house without saying anything.
