Fanfic: The Path

almost soft. An outsider would not have seen anything great from these two mumbled sentences, but it was much more than just an apology and a thank you.
Kai noticed that there was more than just thank you in these words, a timid closeness and it seemed to him as if she were laying her vulnerable inner life at his feet. Her words expressed more than it superficially appeared and that hit the young half-Russian deeply, as his apology also had a second meaning.
The two young people looked at each other without hesitation, the invisible partition wall had blown away. The connection between muscles and brain was apparently no longer there and Leylan couldn't take his eyes off Kai.
What felt like ages passed until Kai forced himself back into reality with force and suddenly the expression in his eyes changed ... this did not escape the black-haired woman and she knew - now it was over.
It was only with great effort that Leylan was able to lower his gaze, it was clear to her that Kai would no longer tolerate the sudden closeness between them.> You don't offend me so easily. <, she thought and got up in front of Kai.

With which she set a clear sign that she would by no means allow herself to be controlled, that she would by no means grant him freedom of choice in terms of approach and rejection. The fine, even without words, functioning communication between them made Kai perceive their gesture unmistakably and an ironic smile played around his lips. When he got up he tossed her a package of bandages, shook his head, looked at the floor and laughed softly. The bandages landed safely in Leylan's hand, who watched him suspiciously as he announced the end of today's training to Ray, Tyson and Tala. It seemed as if the brief emotional interlude between the two went unnoticed and Leylan sighed in relief. She was already confused, so she definitely didn't need any comments from her teammates. Without even having touched her starter, before the rest of the team she returned to the house by the fastest route across the porch, her thighs wrapped in a tight bandage and her calves full of slightly shimmering strips of wound healing cream.
"The training is over for today, you can stop."
Kai's arrogant voice echoed across the training ground and made his colleagues look up. Without saying another word, he turned his back on them and walked towards the house.

> What was THAT supposed to mean? Am I completely out of my mind now? No distance, no abyss between us, nothing that suggests gaps due to various abuses! And yet she insisted on having the last "word" ... <, he thought and another ironic smile made the corners of his mouth twitch.
