...or not?
Days, weeks, even months passed since that day. It was five months in total. Kari and Danny had to go back to school themselves, which is why they couldn't fly to Yami and Yugi. A phone call had to be enough. So the two girls hung on the line every night and after hanging up they were heartbroken every time. The two boys fared no differently. But then it was finally summer vacation and Hikari and Danielle got on the plane to Japan. "I'll see Yugi again," Hikari trilled and Danny had to laugh too. Kari had already turned 17 in May and Danny would be in the fall break.
After a couple of hours she arrived and got off the plane. Hardly seen, the two girls were also hugged and almost kissed on the ground. Atemu beamed all over his face and Yugi was about to start crying with joy. "Finally you are back", Ati said happily and took the suitcase from Danny. Kari and Yugi held hands and sauntered out into the street. Grandfather was standing there by his car (he just drives xD here) and waited for the four of them. Danny and Ati followed the two and sat down in the car, which now drove towards the play shop.
Once there, Danny was used as a cuddly toy again, while Yugi and Kari just went into town.
A lot had changed too. Seto and Joey had become a couple, which Danny and Kari didn't want to believe at first. Ati had mentioned it, but at first they thought it was a joke. However, this turned out to be the truth. Tristan and Tea had also become a couple - which Yami had visibly pleased that she was no longer behind him.
But the summer vacation was also drawing to a close after six weeks that were cozy for Danny, and the mood was gloomy. The last day dawned and everyone was in a bad mood. In Egypt and Japan the school year started again - as if by chance (1) - at the same time. Kari sat on Yugi's lap and sighed heavily. She didn't want to go. She had enjoyed the time after not seeing her Yugi for five months. And there would only be another vacation in almost three months. Danny was no different. She snuggled up against Atemu. Apparently it rubbed off, because she had mutated into a cuddle cat herself. Every evening there was cuddling. "I can't stand it for three months," she said early in the morning to Yami, who sighed and said: "Neither do I ..."
After a while, Grandfather couldn't see this anymore, so he called Herakles and asked if Danny could not stay here until the next vacation. Herakles didn't really mind and Grandfather asked if Herakles might ask Kari's parents if she could stay here. They agreed and Grandfather came into the living room with a big grin on his face and told them that Danny and Hikari could stay here but had to go to school here in Domino. The four couldn't hold back their joy and they all threw themselves at Grandfather and hugged him.
So it happened that the next day they stood in front of the secretariat and registered. Yami as well, who has now also been sentenced to school. "I'm 18," Atemu grumbled, "I'm not going to school" "Oh yes ... you still have a lot to learn," Grandfather said and registered him without further ado. Now he stood in front of the classroom door with a sullen face and killed the door with his look. "Ati," Danny whispered softly and took his hand. "Stop grumbling Atemu ...", Kari reprimanded him, who now opened the door. The teacher greeted them warmly and the students noticed that two of the three were holding hands. Then they had to introduce themselves: "Hello ... I'm Hikari Yumi and I come from Egypt. I'm 17 years old and everyone calls me Kari" Then Danny continued: "Hi, I'm Danielle Mounir, 16 and my name is Danny. Me am also from Egypt "Ati grumbled before he started to speak:" I'm Yami Atemu (2) and I come from Egypt. I'm 18 and don't let anyone touch my girlfriend, then there's trouble " turned a little red and a soft "Yami!" squeaked. But that didn't bother the Egyptians. Kari started laughing and Danny blushed even more.
"Well then, sit down on the free places and we will continue with the lessons." The rest of the day was slow and dreary, especially for Yami, who thought that school was a waste of time. During the break, the former pharaoh sat down under the cherry tree on the edge of the school yard and sighed. "How can you come here every day? That's horrible" "You will be here every day from today on," giggled Danny, who snuggled up against him. "Don't tell him that, or he won't cuddle you anymore because he's upset," grinned Joey, who had just arrived with Seto. Danny stuck his tongue out and turned away.
Then the doorbell rang at the end of the break and we went to math class. "I don't want to," Yami grumbled, but Danny dragged him into the room.
After school, the two of them went to eat ice cream with Kari and Yugi. Kari and Yugi shared a mug again and Danny and Yami did the same. But something was wrong with Danny, Yami noticed. He wanted to talk to her about it later.
Kari asked Yugi if he wouldn't go into town with her a little more, which he was only too happy to do. The two said goodbye and now he and Danielle, the former Pharaoh, were alone again. "What's wrong with you?", Yami asked and looked at her closely. "Ati ... I'm sorry, but ...", stopped and it took a while before she continued: "I can't tell you ..." He noticed that she had tears in her eyes when she gave him a quick kiss and stormed out of the cafe. Confused, he looked after her and he decided to ask Kari what Danny was up to.So it happened that in the evening he knocked softly on their room door and received a soft "Come in". "Oh ... Yami", Kari smiled and put the book aside that she had read. "Kari, tell me, can I ask you something?", Yami began and she nodded: "Of course"
He cleared his throat briefly and asked his question: “What's wrong with Danny today?” Kari's eyes widened before she asked: “Today is August 26th, isn't it?” Yami nodded slightly and aich Hikari's look became sadder. "Atemu .... sit down ... I have to tell you something ... about Danny"
He did as he was told and sat on the bed. "So", the brown-haired tried to start, "exactly 12 years ago ... her brother died" "Your brother?", Yami repeated and Kari nodded. "His name was Daniel and he was 10 years older than you ..."
-Flashback-
A sunny day in the land of the pharaohs. The birds are chirping and the sky is azure as always. A little four year old girl is playing soccer with her older brother. "Goal," says Danny when she shot one. "Well done little one," laughs Daniel, who is always called Dan.
"Dan, are we going to have an ice cream?" Danny asks lovingly and puts on a doggy look. "Of course," laughs Dan and picks up the little girl.
"Daniel!" Suddenly calls out a stern voice from the house and the person called sighs. "Danny, we have to go for ice cream another day ... Dad wants to speak to me" Danny makes a sad face when Daniel puts her on the floor and leaves. Then she gets up again and runs back to get the ball, with which she then continues to play alone.
In the evening she still sits in the garden and watches the stars. "Danny?" Dan calls out worried that he can't find her. Then after a long search he discovers her. The smaller one hadn't heard him, but when she sees him, she jumps up and calls: "Dan" She hugs him and he says softly: "Come on, let's go to bed" The little girl yawns as if to confirm.
He picks her up and the black-haired girl soon falls asleep in his arms. "You're becoming more and more like mother and father to them," laughs a voice from the shadows. "Hello Grandpa," smiles Dan, then nods. Robert looks down at Danielle and his face takes on a sad expression. "She's been quieter since mom left," mumbles Dan and Robert nods. "And your father doesn't care much about her either, does he?" Asks Robert and Daniel nods this time. "He only cares about me, because I'm supposed to be king one day .... Danny always comes up short" Dan looks sadly down at his sister. "The only one to whom she is still the same as before, is you Dan ... just take care of her!" With these words Robert goes back into the house. Dan mumbles softly: "As long as I live, nothing will happen to you, Danny, I promise" Then he puts her in bed and covers her.
The next day, Danny is alone and there is no one to take care of her. Since she is bored, Kari comes to her and they both want to play something.Hikari laughs: "Let's play catch ..." Danny nods and the two romp around in the kitchen and in the hallway. Although there is a glass door from the kitchen to the hall, they run around and Kari catches Danny. It is now her turn. Kari runs into the kitchen and Danny chases after her. But the moment Danny starts running and is just outside the door, it closes. Danny trips and falls through the door, hands first. Kari cries out when she hears the crash and starts to whimper. Danny is lying on the ground between the broken glass and blood is running down her hands. She makes no sound, just stares anxiously at the glass below.
Kari suddenly runs through the house screaming and calls Daniel. He comes straight from his father's study and finds the broken up Kari. "Dan ... Danny ... the door!", She cries and Daniel suspects bad things. When he walks into the hallway, his eyes widen. "Danny!" He calls and takes the girl in his arms. The whole time she was as quiet as a mouse, but now that Dan is there, she starts to cry. "It's okay," he whispers over and over and washes the blood off her hands before bandaging them. Then he takes her to her room and then brings Kari home, who asks anxiously if they are going to get in trouble. Daniel says no, although he didn't quite know that about his father.
When he gets home, he finds Danny crying again and his angry father. Dan resolves to talk to his father again later. He sits down next to Danny on the bed and she looks at him sadly: "Dad scolded me .... he doesn't like me" "Of course he likes you", Dan smiles sadly, although it looked different in
