The legend of the moon child
A legend as old as time, I tell you
but you will only understand it if you are wise my child:
Moonlight clothed arid undergrowth in shining silver,
blew around the woman's narrow face in the mild night wind,
accepted the pleading words, carried them to heaven.
The moon shone generously on the young gypsy,
he wanted to fulfill her wish for love,
but demanded her child in exchange.
Without hesitation, she agreed, the pact was made.
Soon a youth entered the woman's life,
His hair was pitch black and his eyes were pitch black.
A few months later she gave birth to a son
anxiously stretched him up to the starry sky and said:
“You, dear Luna, I hold my life in my hands.
Do you really need a flesh-and-blood human to be your own?
You could never be a real mother to him
after all, you are the moon. Forgive me, but I'll keep it. "
Dark clouds were gathering, the light was gone.
However, when she showed her son to her husband,
hereditary, a terror struck his limbs:
The child's skin was white, as white as the hide of an ermine,
His hair was colorless and his eyes were bright.
The white child of the white moon.
In anger, the man reached for the blade,
cursed the child and stabbed the mother,
because he thought she had betrayed him.
But he carried the wailing child to the highest mountain,
left it there so fate could decide him.
There it lies and lives.
He's fine on the nights of the full moon,
if the child cries, then the moon wanes to be a cradle for the child.
Who sacrifices his unborn child so as not to be left alone,
can't have loved this child.
And you Luna, you want to be a mother?
You don't have someone whose love makes you a woman.
Tell me, silver moon, what are you going to do with a being of flesh and blood
a child of the moon?
