~ Mondseelen ~ [MMFF]
the name 'Lunaris' but you can't scientifically prove something like that. There is a lot of speculation. Most, however, attribute it to a previously unknown genetic defect. Pero. .. I don't really know what to believe either ... "
Swinging her handbag, she trudged along beautifully decorated shop windows. Inwardly, she made a list of what else she had to get hold of before going to Paris. She could never have afforded the trip to France alone, which drove her to buy a nice card. Valentina would later label them and then send them to her grandparents who had stayed in the house in the country while her niece set out for the big city of London, driven by an indefinable restlessness. And now Paris came along too! When she thought about it that sounded strange. But she never said she was a normal girl with a normal life.
Her thoughts were ever interrupted by a very strong smell. A Lunaris was nearby. Humans and Lunaris were difficult to distinguish for laypeople. But Valentina had a nose for it, in the truest sense of the word. In the beginning it was difficult for her to distinguish which smell pointed to a person and which to a Lunaris, since everyone smelled differently. But then she noticed that she could smell Lunaris even over long distances and people only when they were in their immediate vicinity. And this wonderfully fresh, intense coconut scent was from a Lunaris! She followed her nose and found herself outside a charismatic little café on a street corner. "Mary's Diner" was the name of the shop. Too euphoric to think further, she ran quickly through the bar to the last table, where a petite girl was sitting. Opposite her, a young man. Now she could see his scent and was pleasantly surprised.
"Tomorrow!" She said with a broad grin as she stopped in front of the table.
Two frightened faces looked at her and somehow she got a feeling that she might have tackled the matter a little too quickly. But you didn't meet a different Lunaris every day, because many lived very secluded and only went out in public when necessary.
"Good morning?" Said the young man rather questioningly, and the girl also greeted her after a little eternity, that was how it seemed to Valentina. Since she did not know whether the boy knew that his companion was not a normal person, she pushed the girl closer to the wall and to find a place herself on the red bench. Then she leaned over to whisper in her ear. The girl dodged, however, and looked at the boy in confusion. Valentina had to laugh. I should probably shift down a gear, she thought and smiled at the girl.
"I'm not biting, I just want to tell you something. Please," with an encouraging expression, she pulled her upper arm closer to her. Val didn't think the boy could lip-read, but she put a hand over her mouth and ear anyway.Better safe than sorry.
"You are a Lunaris," she whispered. Immediately she felt the muscles on her upper arm tense under her hand. "But don't worry," she added quickly, "I am too." She let go of the girl to grin at her. The pretty, but thin face showed something like joy, but covered with a good deal of skepticism.
"Does he know?" Val asked, this time not bothering to whisper and nodded her chin in Shane's direction.
The blonde nodded. Her eyes slid to the boy. Actually, she would have expected him to sit there puzzled, but he taught her better when he crouched down and watched the whole situation intently, as if he were watching an exciting crime thriller."Very nice!" Laughed Valentina. "Then let's leave that secrecy."
The waitress came and brought breakfast. When she asked Valentina what she could get her, she ordered a coffee.
"Are you sure you even need a coffee. You don't seem really tired," the young man stated and sipped his own.
Valentina ignored the remark. "What are you names?"
"Shane", he said between two sips. "And the silent person next to you is Lucera."
"My name is Valentina. Enough of the formalities." She turned back to Lucera. "Tell me, you must have this ... uh ... feeling. Well, this Ewtas that says you should look for it?"
Lucera answered hesitantly. "I think I know what you mean. Si, this feeling sounds familiar to me."
"Good. Do you have any idea what that could be? Or what to look for?"
She shook her head in resignation.
"Hm. What a shame. But Zane and I were only recently in the library. We searched a few books and well. Somehow it says that everything originated in Paris."
Shane dipped the corner of his croissant into the chocolate and took a hearty bite. "Who is Zane?" He mumbled without looking at Val.
"A good friend," she said quickly.
Shane paused. He raised his eyes and looked into her eyes, "Just a good friend?"
God, she might not like that guy! What was that to him ?! She could literally feel the blood rising to her head. "Yes," she said firmly, "just a good friend."
Shrugging, he went back to his breakfast.
“What exactly is there in Paris?” Lucera's serious eyes were of interest. Nervously, she began to roll her napkin into a tight roll. She hardly seemed to notice it herself.
"If we have understood everything correctly, then the first Lunaris appeared there. So the origin."
Shane raised an eyebrow. "If you got everything right?"
"The sources are a bit ... uh ... old. And up to now nobody has apparently bothered to translate this linguistic debacle into the present day. So it is difficult to understand everything the authors mean exactly. But Paris became a lot often mentioned .... and the moon. "
"So you are an advocate of the lunar theory?"
"Yes," she admitted sternly.
"Okey. And just because it says something about Paris do you want to go there without knowing what you are looking for? Paris is big, sweetheart." Shane found the plan rather ill-considered. Sure, he would hardly stop them if they really wanted to go there. It wasn't his problem, but this lack of thought!
"We have nothing to lose. Besides, we've already found a clue in a library. Maybe we'll be lucky again." Admittedly, it was a bit silly to think that we were so lucky again. But like she said before. She had nothing to lose."Are you coming with me?" She asked Lucera hopefully.
She nodded. "Yes, I'll come with you. This is the first lead I have and I have nothing to lose either."
Valentina's eyes shone. She had found a new Lunaris. Maybe even a new girlfriend. At first she wasn't sure if the feeling she had was maybe just about her. But now what for sure. It was not just their business, but all or at least many of the Lunaris' business! Her determination made itself felt. She would find out what it was all about, with Lucera, Zane and Shane by her side. "Wonderful! Then we can buy the tickets for the crossing as soon as possible. Zane will be happy to meet you both."
"Moment." Shane's second eyebrow rose to join the other. "What does 'getting to know you' mean here?"
"You ... aren't coming with me?" Asked Valentina. Maybe she was wrong, but she thought Shane was Lucera's boyfriend. Or at least a GOOD friend. Oops ...
His eyes hardened. "No way..."
So I really hope you enjoyed it.
I actually planned more in this chapter, but I'm afraid that it would have been too long then. I still have to practice assessing that: D: D
