When Frost Claw and Dock Claw came from the hunt, there was a great uproar in the camp. Dockside claw stopped to look at this from a distance, but Frostclaw ran straight to the elders' den to bring her brother the captured prey. Curvilinear was a little off the beaten track. When Frost Claw came up to her, the she-wolf rose with the kink in her tail and looked at the white woman with joy. > You really shouldn't have hunted for me. <she said satisfied. Frostclaw just screwed up his eyes and said irritably, "That's right." My brother gets that too! <Then Frostclaw ran past Crooked Tail. Crooked Tail growled contemptuously> What's the matter with you? You live up to your name. With a frosty claw you tear our good mood as it suits you! <Frostclaw whirled around and glared at the older one> If that's just what you're getting, I don't understand how you can even notice anything! This morning our patrol was attacked by these bloody bloodsuckers, the patrol in which your son Black Tail was also there! <Curvilinear remained mute. Without a word, the old she-wolf turned and trotted into the den. Tail of light, who had noticed everything, came trotting along with frost on the leaves. He greeted his sister happily. > Is it that bad? I wish I was more of a help, but I'm probably getting old as a cripple ... <Frostclaw hurt what she heard. She pressed herself comfortably to her brother's fur and pushed her prey towards him. > I caught it for you. I hope you like the rabbit. <Your brother nodded gratefully. Frost Claw got up, threw one last painful look into his empty eyes and then said> I guess I'd better have a look at what's going on up there. <Then she nodded to Blattfrost and jumped across the camp to the tree stump. Just as she arrived, the voice of Goldstern rang out> All wolves old enough to catch their prey themselves may gather here under the tree stump for a clan meeting! <It didn't take long until everyone was there. The students jumped up in big leaps. Soot-tail appeared at the entrance to the nursery, followed by the larch young and the birch young, who shooed them back again. Blacktail was sitting right next to the large stump, between the roots of which was the leader's den. Hawk eye on the other side. Glosstail sat down next to Frostclaw without a word. Ever since Glosstail made it public to be with Hawk Eye, there was radio silence between the sisters. The elders huddled at the back of the crowd. Goldstern checked the crowd once more before speaking. > You have probably already noticed what happened this morning. <he began,> The bloodsuckers are getting closer and closer to our territory, they disregard the borders, hunt people on our land and attack us! <A murmur of protest rose from the crowd and Frostclaw let out a low growl.It was almost impossible to kill a vampire. They couldn't ram a stake in their hearts, but instead bleed it to death, tear it to pieces, and drive them to flight. A werewolf bite would kill these creatures, it was said, but they weren't werewolves. With a snap of his ear, Goldstern silenced the crowd. > We will step up border patrols. <raised Goldstern again when Schwarztail interrupted him> But we have no chance when we are so few! We need new warriors and students as soon as possible. I think Hawk Eye's student is ready to become a warrior! <Frostclaw looked at Snowpaw, their eyes filled with horror. Snowpaw wasn't ready yet and everyone here knew that. Hawk Eye looked at Blacktail in surprise> She's not ready. Just as little are Firepaw and Stormpaw. Don't worry about our student black tail, you better worry about your pups. <Hawk Eye's eyes sparkled cold as he spoke. Without a word, he sat back on his seat. When Goldstern declared the meeting to be over, Frost Claw got up to go to sleep. Her bones hurt and she was tired. Cold wind came on her fur and rain came up. On the way to the burrow, her black tail stood in the way. Annoyed she growled> What is it? <Schwarzschweif looked at her unimpressed and said> I will probably have to take over Langpelz's post now until he is healthy again. At least Goldstern told me. So now I'll assign you to the morning border patrols. She will leave in the early hours of the morning. Don't be late! <With that the strong warrior turned away and let Frostclaw crawl into the cave. Great. She would go on border patrol. She just hoped she wouldn't have to go with black tail. In her nest she curled up and closed her eyes. It was going to be a short night and she should have had a good rest. Slowly she sank into a deep slumber until she finally fell asleep completely.
