Chapter 1

Laurie was instantly torn from her dreamland when her alarm clock rang loudly. The sounds echoed through the still sleeping house. By now all the housemaids, cooks and other employees would be awake.
A few minutes later, in which Laurie had turned on her other side again and wanted to go back to sleep, the door was opened and a figure crept into the room.
She gently shook Laurie's shoulder to wake her up before pulling the heavy red velvet curtains on the windows to one side and bright light shining into the room.
The warm rays of the sun tickled Laurie's pale skin and woke her up.
"Laurie! You have to wake up!" she heard a familiar voice, that of her mother.
"Mom! I don't want to get up yet!" Laurie muttered, burying her head under the pillow."Come on, mouse! Otherwise you'll be late for school!" her mother whispered, smiling, and quickly left the room.
/ That wouldn't matter anyway! / thought Laurie sadly and sat up pained.
Wearily, she rubbed the sleep from her eyes and looked around.
Many children would do anything to see a room like Laurie had.
The walls were painted black and there were red roses on them. Countless pictures of black angels and vampires hung on the walls. Laurie didn't believe in such characters, but found them fascinating and beautiful. The floor was made of dark wood and over it was a wonderful dark red carpet. Laurie was lying in her black and red four-poster bed, next to which was a bedside table made of chestnut wood and on which was her annoying alarm clock. With a quick movement of her hand, Laurie pushed the curtains of the four-poster bed aside and turned off the annoying noise before she slipped into her slippers and walked across the huge room to get to her large oak closet. She tore it open in boredom, pulled out some things and got dressed.
Then she shuffled down to the kitchen, where her mother received her with a large breakfast.
"Good morning Laurie!" she whistled and was making a jam sandwich.
"Tomorrow!" Laurie yawned and sat down in her seat to get her breakfast between her teeth as quickly as possible so as not to be late for class.
In the end, she had to walk a full 15 minutes to the nearest town.

Laurie did a quick wash and then went into the huge lobby. There she put on her shoes and was about to go out the door when one of the housemaids called her:
"Laurie? Do you have your lunch already? And your jacket?"
Laurie sighed. Heather only meant well and so she took her jacket and bread and then left the house.

Normally she was used to her lonely way to school, which first led through the village, then for a while over some fields and afterwards through the next town, but today something was different.Laurie felt like someone or something was watching her when that night's dream came back to her mind. It was also about strange shadows that they had chased down a dirt road.
Laurie shook her head.
/ That is absurd! / she thought / Since when have I been believing in something like that? /
She quickly continued on her way and tried to suppress the uncomfortable feeling. She should be arriving at her friend's house soon.
It was a three-story older wooden hut. It looked a bit shabby on the outside, but beautifully cozy on the inside. The Inzukate family was by no means poor, but they all loved old things. Mizuke was Laurie's best friend and they did a lot together.
Mizuke's house finally came into view, but something was wrong. Her friend was not standing in front of the house as usual and greeted her with wild waves.

Laurie slowly came closer to the house. From the outside everything looked the same as always.
/ Maybe she'll come!/ thought Laurie to herself and waited.
The dirt road ran a little away from the house and a smaller path, at the fork of which Laurie was now waiting, then led to the house.
After a few minutes, when nothing had happened, Laurie thought about it. Should she come to school now and be on time or she would just bang the bell!
Laurie decided on the latter and walked down the path to Mizuke's house.

A breath of fresh air played with Laurie's hair as she rang the doorbell.
The noise echoed through the apparently empty house, frighteningly loud.
"H ... hello?" Laurie asked, but her voice wasn't as firm as she wanted or should.
It was quiet inside. Even when Laurie knocked on the door, nothing moved inside.
Laurie probably fell out because there were strange scratches on the wooden door.
/ Probably just a cat / Laurie encouraged herself and finally turned the doorknob.

The door creaked open and Laurie stepped inside. It looked terrible inside, everything was devastated and these weird scratches could be seen everywhere.
"Hello?" Laurie shouted, hoping someone else was here, but nothing could be heard.
"Mizuke? Are you here?" Laurie called on.

Suddenly she heard a low sob and spun around. There was nothing behind her. Wild turned around in a trance, hoping to see someone. But the sound didn't seem to come from down here.
Laurie slowly started toward the stairs. This creaked loudly under her feet and the sobs died away immediately. Laurie stood petrified when suddenly the wood began to creak above her.
"W ... who is it?" asked a thin voice.
Laurie looked up to see her friend's frightened pair of eyes.
"Mizuke!" exclaimed Laurie happily.
"Laurie ?!" Mizuke said puzzled "What are you doing here?"
“We wanted to go to school together, but you weren't there! Then I came in!Why aren't you open? "Asked Laurie.
"I ... I guess I didn't hear it!" said Mizuke and looked visibly disturbed.
"Mizuke! What happened here?"
Suddenly tears formed in her eyes and Mizuke threw herself into Laurie's arms.
"It's so awful! I ... I woke up this morning ... and they were all dead!" she cried.
Laurie's eyes widened.
"Come on Mizuke! We're going out a little first!" she said quickly and led her friend, who was a bit wobbly on her feet, through the chaos outside.
"Do you guys have a phone inside?" Laurie then asked.
"Yes!" Mizuke sniffed "On the second floor! But Laurie don't go there! There's something!"
"Don't worry! I'll be right back! I just call the police quickly!" Laurie soothed her and disappeared back into the house, while Mizuke sat down on the floor and began to cry incessantly.

Laurie snuck back inside, stepped through the mighty chaos and slowly climbed the stairs until she reached the top of the landing. There she looked around. That feeling again, as if someone was following her. But Laurie shook her head and walked on. She didn't know exactly where the phone was, but it was in that direction, that was clear. A few minutes later she finally found it and dialed the number in a flash. Immediately she mentioned the incident and the location and everything else important and hangs up again.
She took another deep breath and was about to go back down to Mizuke when she heard a strange noise behind her.
"H ... hello?" she asked softly, almost in a whisper.
Something was approaching her, but since the corridor was very dark she couldn't see what. Laurie could only see two pairs of glowing red eyes.
With a scream, she dived for the stairs and then down them, followed by the creak. She stumbled through the mighty chaos and fell as expected. Immediately she looked behind her and her eyes widened. Again those pairs of eyes were there just staring at them.Laurie quickly jumped up and ran out of the house.
She quickly slammed the door and took a deep breath.
"Oh ... my God! Oh my God!" she repeated.
"Laurie! What happened?" asked Mizuke and ran towards her.
"There ... is something in your house!" Laurie panted out of breath.
"You saw it too?" her friend asked carefully.
"Yes! Two red eyes chased me! Do you know who or what that was?"
"Maybe it was a vampire!" Mizuke said softly.
"Mizu-chan! You know exactly that I don't believe in something like that!" said Laurie.
