The night of the vampires

Chapter 2

While waiting for the police, the two did not speak to each other. They didn't even open their mouths again until the police asked them to do so. Mizuke seemed to be getting worse and worse and the cops decided to take Laurie and her to school first after they had recorded the protocol.

Laurie was lost in thought the whole time and, due to her carelessness, had to stand outside in the hallway.
/Great day! / she thought grimly when she was finally allowed to go back to class.
The break bell had rang and all the children pushed their way out, only Laurie and Mizuke stayed inside, which their teacher had advised them to avoid annoying questions. As soon as all the students and the teacher were outside, Laurie let her head drop on her bench.
"Laurie?"
"Hm?"
"Maybe I can stay with you for a few days! So at your home?"
Laurie raised her head, then dropped it onto her arms.
"Sure, why not?" she said and closed her eyes "Mizu! I can't get these eyes out of my head!"
"Just like me!" Mizuke agreed sadly.
"I think of something! I have karate training until nine o'clock today!" said Laurie and looked up again.
"What ?! Until nine o'clock? When?"
"Right after school! I have that every Wednesday!" explained Laurie.
"But then it's already dark!"
"I know that! But together we can do it! Besides, I don't believe in demons or vampires or anything like that!"
"I know!" sighed Mizuke.
The two talked for a while, until the whole class streamed back into the class that was actually much too small and went to their seats, chatting loudly. So the school day took its course and Laurie and Mizuke didn't get out of the "prison", as they sometimes called it, when it was seven o'clock.
"You really have two hours of karate?" Mizuke suddenly wanted to know.
Laurie nodded.
"I hope I can concentrate today!" she sighed.
"I'm in!" smiled Mizuke, noticing for the first time that day.

Laurie wondered why Mizuke hadn't been crying all day, but she probably didn't realize it yet. That would definitely come in the next few days. In addition, Mizuke was a rather friendly and often laughing disposition. Laurie had never seen her sad in long.

The two friends quickly left the school and made their way to Laurie's karate class, which took place at the end of the village.

Mizuke was more than enthusiastic and also a bit proud, after all, it was her friend who was making everyone upset. She applauded happily with every successful punch or kick, which Laurie didn't mind, but which made her blush a little. It was great to be the center of attention for once, the heel was just ... now they had to walk home alone after such a day in the dark. What wasn't even that bad, much worse was that they were now passing Mizuke's house.

Talking happily, the two made their way to Laurie's house from training, but when they got to the edge of the village they fell silent.
"Laurie, I'm already scared!" Mizuke whispered, clutching Laurie's arm.
"Don't worry, just stay with me!" explained Laurie and bravely took a step in front of the others.

After a few minutes a red dot appeared in the distance, they had long left Mizuke's house behind. Where this red spot had now appeared, according to Laurie's sense of direction, the village should actually have been.
"Shouldn't the village be there?" asked Mizuke.
"I was just thinking the same thing!" said Laurie and slowly put one foot in front of the other. When the two approached the point or spot, Laurie only noticed that it threw a red light and thus lit up the darkness somewhat.
/What's this? / Laurie wondered, quickening her pace.
"Laurie not so fast!" she heard Mizuke calling from behind her, but Laurie ignored her.
Fear rose in her when she realized that the red in the village was not as harmless as it looked. It was a huge fire that had burned down almost everything.
Laurie was already running in panic.
Her breathing was quick and erratic. When she got to the fire, a piercing hot wave was blowing directly towards her. She screwed up her eyes so as not to get hot wind or ash into her.
She heard all the noises around her muffled.
/What happened? / she asked herself and looked around.
Laurie was close to tears when she realized she hadn't seen anyone yet.
"Hello?" she cried desperately "Is there anyone else here?"
"Laurie!" called Mizuke and finally came to her "Look up there!"Mizuke pointed towards the sky and Laurie's gaze followed her finger.
The two girls stood there as if frozen and looked in disbelief at the spectacle that was going on before their eyes.
Neither of them could describe it. Several strange critters circled up there. Animals certainly weren't. They looked more like humans only with bat-like wings.
"Vampires!" Mizuke whispered and took a few steps back in awe.
"Don't talk shit!" Laurie said angrily, even though she knew her friend was right.
The vampires just circled the burning village and didn't seem to notice the two young girls.
"Mizuke! Come on, let's get out of here!" Laurie said as quietly as possible and took her friend by the hand.
Slowly they crept out of the village and when they had left it behind, the girls started to run.

Laurie prayed the vampires hadn't heard her, but luck wasn't on her side today. She could hear one of the vampires calling out:
"There are still some!"
"Laurie!" whimpered Mizuke, who clung to her hand.
"I know!" Laurie called back and ran on.

Laurie hardly paid any attention to the way, which meant that the two of them stumbled more than they ran.
"Laurie I can't take it anymore!" Mizuke shouted and had trouble keeping up with Laurie's pace.
"Would you rather die?" Laurie asked, but she was unable to concentrate for a moment and tripped over a protruding stone.
The two of them landed lengthways on the floor.
/ It's over! / thought Laurie and screwed up her eyes.
In time lapse, Laurie's life flew past her mind's eye.

Suddenly a loud crash of metal on flesh tore through the deadly silence.
Mizuke and Laurie turned to see a woman with white hair standing in the way of the vampires.
"Come on take them away!" the woman ruled and several other women took Laurie and Mizuke by the hand and ran with them through a blue hole that stood directly in the field.Laurie noticed how she suddenly felt sick and also the fainting gnawed at her. Her stomach and all of her organs contracted at once. Tormented, she screwed up her eyes and a soft, painful moan escaped her mouth before the darkness closed in and refused to let go.

In front of Laurie was a burning village, once again she saw the flying monsters, how they grinned at them maliciously and laughed at them.
Laurie saw the dead inhabitants lying there parched without the sap of life. Tears welled up in her eyes and found their way down Laurie's gentle cheeks, which were usually pitted with dimples when Laurie smiled. The usually soft smile on her lips had already died. Suddenly her face started to hurt, it really started to burn.

That was it! ^^
