Vampir-Story

Translation

A night visitor

In the middle of the night I was woken up by a noise. I didn't know what it was. I opened my eyes. It was dark in the room and I couldn't see anything, but then I heard the sound again. Something hit the window. My eyes got used to the darkness and when I saw what had woken me my breath caught. A vampire was hanging upside down in front of my window, staring in. I got up and walked slowly to the window. I stopped a few steps away. "Come in!" did I say that? I probably had to, because no one else was here. As soon as I had said the words, the window swung open and the vampire stood in front of me. He was tall and had long black hair and bright green eyes. In the weak light that fell through the window, he looked supernaturally beautiful and when he opened his mouth to speak, I could see his long, sharp canine teeth. "You let me in." he stated. His voice was soft and soft, but clear.I was silent. I was sure that he would kill me.
“why?” he asked. The question surprised me.
"Why not?"
"Most people," he said, "would rather die some other way."
“But I'm not most people.” The vampire let his gaze wander around the room. His gaze wandered over the vampire posters on the walls, the skull on the shelf and my vampire books and DVD collection. A smile spread across his face.
"You're really not normal," he laughed softly.
Who is normal anyway? I asked myself, but I said nothing and just looked at him in silence. When his gaze got more serious, I knew my life was about to end. His gaze wandered to my neck. He came slowly towards me. I didn't back down. “I'll get it to a quick end,” he whispered. "You won't feel anything."
Strangely enough, I was still not afraid, although the vampire was already standing in front of me. He grabbed my shoulders and bowed his head to my throat.I felt his teeth touch my neck. I was expecting the fatal bite any minute when the vampire paused. “You are not afraid,” he stated, “Usually my victims almost die of fear when I am so close to them. Maybe you are the right one.” He said more to himself. He took a step back and looked at me absently . For a while he stood in front of me in silence and I winced in shock when he began to speak: "Do you want to be like me? If you don't want to, I'll let you go, I won't kill you."
My heart jumped. In front of me was a vampire who wanted to make me his like! I haven't wished for more than that for years, even if I hadn't believed that vampires existed before, it had always been a tempting idea. But now that HE was here, HE who was able to fulfill my wish, I was suddenly no longer sure whether I really wanted it. I would have to drink blood and kill people.I looked at him uncertainly. He seemed to know what was going on inside me. A door slammed in the hall, someone was moving towards my room and I was afraid they would disappear. It was then that I realized that I would forever regret letting go of him now. "Make me one of you," I asked. The vampire nodded. He seemed to notice that a question was on my tongue for a long time, because he asked “what do you want to know?” The vampire looked at me. "What are you names?"
"Edward."
then the door opened and my sister stared in disbelief.
"What ..." she started, but Edward cut her off.
"your sister will get out of here."
My sister had a glassy look and nodded. It reminded me a bit of a zombie.
"She quarreled with your parents and then she made the decision to get out of here because she can no longer take her. She told you that. You will tell your parents tomorrow. You haven't noticed anything and are going back to bed now, understand? "
She nodded and disappeared again.
"What did you do to her?" I asked. "I hypnotized her," he replied tersely.
"Well, before anyone else comes along, we should hurry up. I felt my heart start racing as he came closer and leaned over me again. I barely felt the bite, but I felt the blood pouring out of the wound shot and ran down my neck. I felt everything was just blurry and all the sounds felt like far away. I knew I must have lost a few gallons of blood. I already felt more dead than alive when he stopped drink, bit my wrist and let me drink some of his blood. I didn't think I would be able to drink blood, but I knew I would die if I didn't. So I drank the life me in until he pulled his arm away. As soon as I stopped drinking, it started in unimaginable pain.My whole body ached. I felt like I was going to burn. I hardly noticed that he picked me up and jumped with me through the open window. At some point everything went black around me and when I woke up again I found that we were in a forest. I was curled up on the forest floor and he was sitting next to me.
Then I heard a muffled sound like a drum. I was looking for the source of this noise when I realized that it must be the beating of the heart of a deer, which I had not noticed until just a moment.
I sat up. "Where are we?" I asked.
"About a day's journey from our clan."
"our clan?"
"I'll explain that to you later."
I was satisfied with that for the time being and looked around. In many books that I had read the sentence "as a vampire you see the world with different eyes" was actually true. I saw animals that sat so hidden and motionless that I would never have discovered them as a human.I heard mice trample the ground like elephants. I perceived every little movement, every little noise so clearly that I had the feeling that I had been running around with blinkers my whole life. The stars shone so brightly that I could see as if it were broad daylight. All these unusually loud noises gave me a headache.
"It will take a while to get used to being a vampire, won't it?" I wanted to know
"It's faster than you think, but you will surely have questions? What do you want to know?"
"What about garlic? Is it true that we can't stand its smell?"
"It stinks, but not so bad that I would call it vampire protection."
"What about crucifixes?"
"Nonsense."
"And holy water?"
The vampire grimaced. "Holy water .. has a very caustic effect. The burned wounds only heal very slowly."
"And silver?"
"You should keep your hands off that.""What about wooden stakes?"
"Driving a wooden stake through our hearts is the only definitive method of killing us besides burning, both by sunlight and by fire."
"So sunlight is really deadly?" I asked.
"For you it is."
"And not for you?"
"No for me not."
“why not?” I asked. His brief answers were slowly getting on my nerves.
"A vampire gets stronger with age and at some point it doesn't bother you anymore. I don't know why that is myself."
"and how long does it take to be strong enough?"
"It differs from vampire to vampire. Some of them may never be ready. You're not ready yet, so I would suggest you dig a hole for yourself. The sun will rise soon."
"WHAT ?! Should I dig a hole ?! With the spiders, rats and beetles ?!" I barked. So that's not how I actually imagined life as a vampire. The idea of those nasty little critters crawling all over my body was pretty much the worst thing there was for me.I've hated this animal all my life. Edward seemed surprised at my outburst but finally started laughing. I was pissed off that he was laughing at me and glared at him, but he ignored my angry expression. "You are a beautiful vampire to me," he said, still laughing. "A vampire who is afraid of spiders ... Well then, just fry in the sun."
I knew he was right, I was a pathetic vampire. But it didn't help if I died for good on the first day of my undead life. So I grimly set about digging a hole while Edward watched me grin. When the hole was big enough I lay down in it and Edward pushed the cold, damp earth on top of me until only my head, which was in the shadow of the thick fern, looked out of the forest floor.
"Nice that you came to your senses after all. Animals usually avoid the undead anyway," said Edward and jumped light-footed onto the tree that was closest to me, from which he hung upside down like a bat shortly afterwards. His black leather-like wings (the devil knows where they came from again!) He had wrapped around him so that they covered his entire body. "Vampires can not only turn into animals, they can also just grow a few wings or something like that," he said, explaining. I pretended not to care and stared past him until I heard from his breath that he was asleep. Then I looked up at him again. He had drawn in his head and tucked it under his wings so that nothing, with the exception of the wings, of course, could be seen of him.
In the sky I could already see a faint streak of sunlight and blinded I closed my eyes. The sunlight had never seemed so bright to me. The thought of Edward being able to hang around outside during the day struck me as weird. How could that work if I was so blinded by the rising sun that I had to close my eyes immediately? But maybe at some point I would be as powerful as him ... I thought about the vampire stories I had read so often in the past. Often times the newly created vampires would hear their own heartbeat, but the thought was silly. My body died after Edward bit me. My heart stopped beating, even though I could hear hearts beating all around me, hearing my own beating was impossible. Many other things now seemed just as nonsensical to me. I couldn't imagine that one human alone could kill a vampire, and even THE vampire, the most powerful and oldest of our kind. It occurred to me that I hadn't even asked Edward about him. Was there really someone who was more powerful than everyone else? So lost in thought, I finally fell asleep.
