Fanfic: The Siren and the Unicorn
Chapter: The birth of a Siren
She struggled through a thick forest. Branches fell at her, and thin, razor-sharp twigs cut into her arms and face.
Her clothes were now torn and stuck to her body with blood and sweat. Her bare feet were pierced with sharp stones and twigs. She was being followed. Followed by a seemingly huge, overpowering being.
And at the same time she was lured by a beautiful song that promised to release her from her terrible torments. Somewhere in front of her. It couldn't be that far anymore, it sounded so incredibly close ..
But she only looked into thick clouds of mist, from which branches of some sort kept banging towards her.
Apparently the whole world had conspired against her. Well, she wasn't innocent, but who was that? She had committed many sins, but it had to end at some point. She could no longer and hoped now that she would soon be redeemed with death. But she did not know that she would suffer much longer. She would not be redeemed. She would commit more sins. She was meant to be since she was born.
That poor soul.
What she called, trusted and hoped to find salvation in it, would mean her eternal suffering.
She thought the forest wouldn't end until she was bled to death, but then they lost their strength. Her legs could no longer be carried, they buckled and she moved forward a lot. Her arms were too weak to support her, but she still managed to hit them in front of her face. It was pure reflex. It wouldn't have bothered her either - a small wound more.
The ground was still littered with sharp branches that were surely digging into her skin, but she no longer felt any pain. Not in a long time.
She could taste the sweet blood on her arm. So she knew she was still alive.
She didn't care if this monster got her or not.No, now she was hoping for it - but she could no longer hear it. She didn't feel it anymore. Had she actually left it behind? Right now when she wished so much for death? Now she knew that the world hated her, that even God had now cast her out.
But all hope suddenly returned when she looked up and saw the mighty, vast ocean. The deep blue waves rustled away peacefully and comfortingly. The mysterious song was stronger here than ever. Not louder but as clear as the night. And perfectly matched to the rhythm of the waves.
Now she knew who had called her. And she came.
Destined to become another child of this infinitely silent depth. The holy mother of her lonely soul.
Slowly, as if under a spell, she walked toward the ocean. Her wounds burned in the salt water - she could feel pain again. And just as quickly they passed again. The wounds that came into contact with the water healed within seconds. She went further in, feeling herself merge with the ocean.
It would finally become something beautiful. She would now be free at last. Another daughter of the vast ocean, part of him.
Yes, outwardly she would be a beautiful being, but her soul would always be the same. She will never be forgotten.
She should have died, but she was chosen to live on as an already dead soul. To continue to suffer.
And to die forever.
